Taurus 82...what ammo??

I have a 1996 made Taurus model 82 with the 4" barrel .38 special. It does NOT have the full length underbarrel lug. I know it is an all steel revolver...similar in size to a S&W Model 10. The lockup seems fairly snug. But, how stout is this gun? Is this a "shoot +P once in a while" gun? I have some Federal 147 grain +P+ ammo...would that be too much for this gun? Any FIRST HAND experience with this gun?

I know that the Model 85 is +P rated so I assume that the Model 82 is only +P.

The Model 82 IS rated for .38 +P rounds.

These guys are right on the money. The +P+ may be too high pressured for the Taurus. Heavy duty Colts and N framed Smiths, not to mention.357 magnum revolvers, would be ok for the +P+. Ruger GP100s in .38 Special should be able to withstand the +P+ pressures. Why take the chance where yours and someone else's safety is on the line if things go wrong? Is it worth it? Not in the moral or liability handbook.+P+ is closer to magnum pressures and that would be intolerable for that revolver. Stick with the +Ps or put the +P+ in a magnum framed revolver.

Ok...no +P+....but

Ok...no +P+ ammo for the Taurus 82. Would this gun handle a regular diet of WWB 125 grain +P SJHP?

Don't know that particular gun, but my .38s (2" to 4" barrels) are loaded with 158 grain SWC lead or 158 grain FMJ flat points. They seem to be the naturals for Smiths, Rugers, and Taurus.
