I saw one at a dealer the other day. Nice fit and finish...but never had a Taurus before. Anybody have any info on this little revo?

Oops! I just saw a thread on this very gun....

Never mind...) I'll stick with the SW's

I got one about a year ago not a bad little gun at all. Don't think would want to shoot it a whole lot at one time to me has a nasty kick but is fun to shoot. I did replace there small grips with a slightly larger set.The finish is right up to par with any of my Smiths but trigger could use some work.:)

I had a 905 for about 3 weeks,accurate enough
and pleasent to shoot. The only problem was
fired +P' cases would stick in the cylinder.I
called taurus about sending it back, they said
there was no problem as it'was not ment to
be fired with +P ammo. The only thing is that
i called taurus first before buying one and
was told that limited use of +P's was ok.I
ended up selling it to a friend,he shot it for
a while and sold it when he got bored with it.

I've put about 500 rounds through mine. All REM 115FMJ (75%)and REM 115+PJHP(the other 25%). No sticking, binding or anything. Shot to the right, until I opened up the rear sight groove a little. Now dead on. Me and a friend from Huntsville must have gotten the only two good ones made?

EDIT: I forgot, he bought TWO of them!

Good, except for the recoil

I had one for a short while, but sold it because the recoil was a bit sharp for me. The Pachmayr Compact grips worked best on it for me. Taurus also has a longer grip (than the stock grips) available that fit it. Mine had a nice finish, the trigger was not bad and it worked quite well out of the box. The "Stellar clips" are a lot easier to use than moonclips such as the ones that are used with S&W revolvers.

On the whole, my 905 was a nice little revolver. But for the kick and tradeitis I would still have it. I did not shoot any +P ammo with it.

Tom

9x19 revolvers seem prone to stickyness though my S&W 940 is not too picky. A friends SP101 9mm did not like Wolf and my Speed Six 9mm hates Cor Bon 115gr +P jhp.

I have a 905 and it sticks with everything, +P or not. I wouldn't dare carry it for defense due to this but it is a neat alternative to other snubbies. I have extensively polished the chambers to try and correct the extraction problem but to no avail so far. Yes, recoil can be sharp and I found muzzle flash varied greatly depending on the ammunition. Mine also had a bad misfire/light strike problem out of the box. It went back to Taurus and they fixed that (six weeks). My other issue is that the factory clips are pretty bad. Thet are so thin they are easily damaged and I have not found any after market clips. Also, I found that unlike my 625 or a couple of 610 Smith's I have shot, the 9mm rounds are not held so securely in the clips and they flop around more. I don't mean that they will come out of teh clips but that they are not as alligned with each other or the cylinder as the .45 rounds for the 625 are. As a result of this I found speed loading the 905 much harder than speed loading a 625.

I recently bought a 905 Instant Backup. It was nice to look at, but not very reliable. I put 100 rounds through it, but the cylinder would bind periodically. This would lock the gun up for periods of time. It would then start shooting again. It did not seem to be related to a specific type of ammo. It could be that the tolerances were too tight, but I would could also feel this bind every now and then when dry firing. This led me to believe that it was something else. I thought about sending it back to Taurus, but (from multiple experiences) I did not like the idea of waiting 4 to 6 weeks minimum to shoot my brand new revolver. I have owned 7 Taurus firearms. My 605 was great as was a 94, but the 85, one of my CIA models, the PT 111 and my most recent 905 purchase, required (or would have required in the case of the 905) a trip back to the factory at least once. So, buy at your own risk, Taurus seems to be a crap shoot. I traded my 905 in on a S&W 642. That said, I'm not reading rave reviews on S&W either, but if I had to chose between the two, it would be a Smith. I'm not saying that Taurus doesn't make a decent gun, just sharing my experience. Many seem to like Taurus. I was once a fan myself.

905 is comparable in size to a S&W "J"" frame

I wouldn't say that it is a true "pocket sized" gun.

Tom

Height is roughly the same, but the 905 has a shorter barrel and cylinder length than the J's do. I can carry it in my jeans front pocket in a holster easier than a comparable J-frame. In Docker-type slacks, a larger gun can be pocket carried.

Why trust anything smaller?
