I have been looking for a 9mm revolver and the only one I found is the Taurus 905. I know alot of people will advise against getting a 9mm revolver, but since I own a 3913 I thioght it would be good to have a second gun that uses the same ammo. Not to mention that the cost of 9mm is alot cheaper than others. I also feel that this would be a good weapon to have for my wife to use.

I wanted to ask if anyone else had any exp. with the Taurus 905.

I just bought one two weeks ago and have put 200 rounds through it. I find it very accurate. I like the full moon clips which are easy to load and unload without a tool. I have been carrying it since I bought it.. Out of the box the trigger is beter than any Smith you can buy today.

For a very loose comparison of power, if you go to the Winchester site and compage Silver tipes in .38 Spec. and +P, and the 9mm, you will see the foot pounds of approximatly 220, 250 and 380 pounds. All shot with a 4" barrel, but from a 2" barrel I'll bet even money that the spread will be the same percentage wise.

Now lest you think I'm a duffus who backs the different product, I own and carry a Det. Spec., Cobra, 640, 642, Body Guard and SP 101 3", not at the same time , of course. The 905 so far is as good as any of them in every regard, and the power it delivers without any more felt recoil makes its case.

What model 905 do you have and what did you pay for it? Have you shot it without the moon clips?
I have been looking for the IB or concealed hammer but no luck.
Thanks

HiCap1, thanks for the nice balanced review of the Taurus 905...it appears as if you have a winner ! Congrats. your new handgun.
I like the concept of a 9mm revolver.....glad to hear Taurus makes a good one.

imheyman, I couldn't get the bobbed hammer model and the IB is not available. No, I haven't tried it w/o the moon clips, but I have inserted a round to determine if it would visually head space correctly, and it looked good.

Incidently, a friend gave me two boxes of Federal 9mm Federal, which is a parabellum RIMMED round no longer made. The bullet looks like that of the nifty 9BP in the standard pressure 9mm from Federla.

Incidently, I had Bob Mika make a pocket holster for my 905, as well as my other snubbies. Inside jacket breast pocket for suit wear, and right pants pocket without jacket.

I don't have a 905 (yet) but I do have two Taurus handguns I'm very happy with and I used to have two other Taurus revolvers that ranged from reliable good to great.

In Taurus revolvers I currently have an 85CH. Great little gun. With the little generic brand rubber boot grips I don't really notice the recoil much even with +P. Accuracy isn't bad for a small snub, trigger is quite smooth, fit and finish is decent (it is a 1991 vintage).

My first gun was a Taurus 82 I bought used. Good gun (though it was a bit boring sometimes). I sold it when I got my first .357mag because back then I thought I'd only have 2-3 guns and didn't see the point of 2 medium framed revolvers. I still kick myself for that.

I also used to have a Taurus 605. Great little snub with great fit and finish and an incredible trigger (especially DA), but I found it nearly painful (and not at all pleasant) to shoot with magnums so I sold it and eventually replaced it with the slightly lighter 85 (figured I'd buy a lighter .38 since I wasn't going to use it with magnums anyway).

So, I have some experience with Taurus revolvers, even if not the 905. I think Taurus small frame snubs are every bit as good as current production S&W, maybe better.

As for the 9mm in a small framed snub, I think it is probably the ideal caliber in that frame. 9mm doesn't lose too much velocity in a short barrel. .357mag was designed around an 8 1/2" barrel and loses a lot in a short barrel. Even without the velocity loss, the 9mm is around halfway between .38spl and .357mag. Given that, I would expect that 9mm performance out of a 2" snub would be very close to .357mag power levels, with a recoil that I'd expect to be closer to a .38+P. Seems the perfect compromise of size, power and controllability.

I handled one at the Shot show and am just waiting for them to be approved in California so I can buy one. I was very impressed with the gun in every way. I think a 9mm revolver is a great idea, so much so that I just got a 9mm Ruger SP-101 that I've been lusting over for years and dearly love it.
