Hi folks,

Anyone got any attitudes about the six-inch Taurus .22 revolver as compared to a similar Smith. I myself am a Smith guy, but for $200 less I'd be willing to consider the merits of this Brazilian beauty.

Thanks in advace for your input.

Over on Rimfirecentral.com the only complaints seem to be the trigger and the grips. Both of which can be fixed.

Better gun than the 94, for sure.

I got a 5" 94 instead, duped into thinking that 9 shots is better than 7. The index notches on the 94 are so shallow that some can be advanced by hand during lockup.

The tracker should be a better gun.

Check it out before buying. I tried 3 before buying a Ruger Sp-101 in 22lr. They would not lock up after doing a check for cylinder lock up.

My Taurus 970 Tracker...

bought mine new last November at Gander Mountian for around $330. later i saw a blued one for $285.

i love my 970, its a wonderful gun, worth every penny i paid. I've always wanted a big nasty lookin DA/SA revolver that was like a Colt Diamondback without paying the very high price.

what ive done to improve it includes:

replaced the too soft "Ribber" grips taurus puts on them with the nice solid Hogue grips.

Worked out the trigger pull over a month or so. this involved putting my thumb on the hammer and repeatedly pulling the trigger, letting your thumb soften the hammer strike. probably took about a 1000 or so trigger pulls but now its lighter and much smoother!

Bought the scope base

Bought a True GLo 2X42mm red dot scope to mount on it.

it did work very well with open sights, i am using CCI Velocitors with it with good results. i have never had a handgun with this good of sights, white outline rear and bright orange front. its just that my eyes arent as good as they need to be, its my fault, not the gun's.

the stainless steel is easy to clear and it gives the gun enough weight to easily steady it for aiming.

I have recently gotten into small game/varmint hunting with handguns and this Tracker has made a wonderful addition. i see no need to dump an extra $200- $300 bucks for the Smith. the money i saved buying the Taurus i got a good load of ammo.

you wouldnt go wrong with this gun, best of luck!

By the way, i bought a Taurus 94, 4" BBL for my wife, i really dislike the thing. but taurus has vindicated themselves with me with the 970! -Eric
