In the market for a 22 revolver. Have been looking for a while. Don't really know which one to buy. Local Scheels has the Taurus 970 and 94 both in stainless and a Ruger Bearcat and Single Six both stainless. They are all priced between $400 and $500. I am leaning towards the taurus because they are DA/SA. I have heard of problems with the Model 94. is the 970 any better than the 94? Smiths are out of my price range for now. Thanks

I have a 94 that I bought a few months ago. The d/a trigger pull leaves a bit to be desired. After about 500 rounds, it has smoothed out a bit, but it still is way heavy.

I found mine at Bass Pro for about $325ish. I wouldn't pay much more than that for one.

If you want to shoot DA, as with practice for your .357 or something, all the .22 revolvers from Taurus are pretty heavy, as tend to be most rimfire DAs. The M17 Smith I recall being nice, though. I have a little Rossi kit gun and as I don't shoot it often DA, I don't care about DA. It's mainly a field gun. The SA, as with the Taurus 94s I've shot, is great and the gun is very accurate. Makes a great field pack along for rabbit, squirrel targets of opportunity. Mine is THAT accurate, at or under 2" at 25 yards. The 94s will shoot that good, too, on the average.

Sorta depends on what you want the gun for, I guess, as to whether you care about the DA trigger or not. Lightening the pull weight is not an option as it will produce misfires. It is what it is. For practice with my .38s and .357s, I use a 148 grain WC from a Lee mold over 2.7 grains of Bullseye, very economical as lead is free, and I get to practice with the gun I actually carry. Costs me less than 3 dollars a box of 50 for ammo.

I do shoot my Rossi DA at the range now and again and can control it even though it's heavy. I figure if I can hit with THAT trigger, the little 85UL or any of my DAs is buddah. :D

I want this gun for my wife to shoot. She wants a revolver she doesn't like autoloaders. It will be used mainly for plinking. She liked the DA revolvers because the cylinder swings out for loading. We borrowed a friends Single Six and she thought it was okay to shoot but was harder to load than the Smith 17 she shot at her handgun course.

Yes its a heavy gun I think it weighed 45 ounces. I haven't taken her to look at it yet to see if she even likes it. Maybe this weekend.

Well I bought the 970SS today. The wife held it and the Ruger Single Six and preferred the 970. Got it home and took it to the backyard and I must say I was impressed with its accuracy and trigger pull right out of the box. Even the DA pull isn't bad. She was knocking down steel plates with it from 10 yards the first time she shot it.

Good pick and nice to hear that things worked out.

I own a Ruger Single-Six , but like the double action capability of the Taurus .22lrf revolver series.

Tell her congratulations and nice shooting!
