I own a Taurus 357 Tracker and love the way it shoots. Problem was after about 250 rounds through it, the cylinder began turning feely. Failed to lock up. Couldn't pull the trigger back to cock the gun in double action and in single action the hammer wouldn't pull back. I had to jiggle the cylinder to line it up properly before it would cock. I took it to a gunsmith who said "send it back to Taurus". He didn't want anything to do with it. I sent it back on Feb 21st and after calling several times, was just told today that they are only working on guns from the 3rd of Feb!:banghead: Are they nuts? I would think if they had such a long backlog they better 1) hire more people & 2) seriously look into the quality of their product! Now I'm told another three weeks or so:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: All the Atta Boys they get because they're starting to improve etc are wiped out with one Aw S:cuss: t! As much as I like the way the Taurus handles and shoots (and I have S&W and Rugers also) I will never purchase another one! I sent the S&W back for repair (all guns break at one time or another) and it was back in my hands in three weeks. Taurus has lost a customer and a recommendation for me forever.

Whew! Now I feel better!

I've seen Rugers take 6 months coming back and Smiths taking 4 months. So your problem could happen with any of the manufactors.

Not to knock Taurus (have liked both pistols I've owned and never needed service) but I've sent firearms back to S&W twice and they were both back in 8 days! :what:

WOW! Too bad you're not getting the service you need for a gun you like. Hopefully things turn around for you!
Good luck

May be true about Ruger, but the only time I ever had to send something back to Ruger were two Security-Six FBI Academy commemoratives. They looked fine from the outside, but inside they had spots of rust all over the stainless. I sent them back and two weeks later got them back looking brand new, inside and out.

I've never had to send a Ruger back except for the ones mentioned above. Oh, and a Mini-14 that had a recall. I've owned many Rugers and Tauruses, and the only ones I'd buy now are the Beretta automatic pistol copies. Never had a revolver that was any good. I do have a .38 Rossi M88 which is a peach. Should have bought a bunch for the price I paid.

The Taurus m66 I own is wonderful. Though I did purchase a brand new S&W 625 something I always wanted and the first day on the range all it did was misfire. I actually called the local S&W rep because he was there when I purchased it and bragged so much about it. Now I can say the guy was very nice and actually came to my house picked it up and sent it back but it took 4 weeks to get it back from S&W repair. Now the rep bragged that because he was sending it in it would not take long. But it was no big deal just frustrating on a brand new firearm. Well I got it back took it out to the range and still misfiring, oh yeah smith replaced the firing pin. I took it back to the dealer this time and he was like oh no when I walked through the door, he said not that 625 again. He said hold on a minute and got this older gentlemen who is there local smith take it right then to the back and 30 minutes later he came back and said it works now no need for me to even test fire it. He drew me a picture and there was some U shape like mechanism (I forget the exact name) he explained that seemed to not be machined correctly and he replaced it. I took it out to the range right then and have not experienced a misfire since. I am not knocking Smith as I own a few of them and will continue to buy as long as I am able. But honestly out of all the firearms I do own this S&W 625 was the only one I have ever had to send back for work and the only one I have ever had problems with, this includes a Taurus m66 357, Taurus RB 44mag.

Not talking up about Taurus or down about Smith I am simply stating my experience and that from time to time in this day and age I think any company can have a bad day.

the best customer service is for the gun that doesnt need it.

but if you do need it, c.s. now becomes the entire face of the business, and it would appear Taurus doesnt care what that face looks like....

I have a Taurus model 415, five shot .41mag that did the same thing. I talked with Taurus before sending it in and they quoted four weeks turnaround and it was within two days of that. It seems to be fine now so I cant complain. Did you ask about turnaround time when you sent it in? Jim.

I have heard nothing good about Taurus CS...it doesnt mean much if you have lifetime customer service policy but it takes a lifetime for the customer service to honor the policy....

I have a Taurus model 66 that developed a problem, too. After 19 years, the crane screw came loose. Woe is me, I had to buy some locktite.:D

I sent a PT145 with a cracked frame back in early December. They quoted me 4 weeks. I called at 3 weeks to see how it was and they couldn't find it. I got with my shipper <Gander Mountain> and got all the UPS paperwork and I had 'Jose's signature two days after it was shipped. They finally found it; it hadn't been 'logged in' yet. Derka derka derk, anyway, I got my gun back 6 weeks from when they got it. Not bad seeing as how I shipped it over the holidays and all, but they should have just told me that. It bothered me that they couldn't find the gun, although I knew they had it. Or Jose did. The customer service people don't seem friendly or willing to help.

Taurus Service (not)

I have a new 45/410 that shoots 6" low @ 50' and all lead bullets keyhole. Returned it to Taurus at my expense and they sent it back not repaired. I wrote them a letter to which they never answered. I wish someone had warned me about that company. No more Taurus for me or my friends.

I have read horror stories about Taurus CS and it's too bad since their guns are very good quality. I've got a semi-auto which feeds anything and has performed flawlesly so far. Based on what I hear though, I hope it never breaks!

Wow,
That's a drag about the CS. I've had nothing but great experiences with them and their CS. They have sent me parts that I requested, fixed one revover's timing issues and even helped me out when I traded a guy at a gunshow for a PT101AF that he had converted to full auto and forgoten to mention to me. Imagine my surprise (I was 22 at the time) when I loaded 5 rounds in the mag at the local range and squeezed off the trigger. BRRRRP!
I about pooed my pants. Needless to say, I packed up and got the hell out of there. I called Taurus the next day and explained the situation. The gunsmith at Taurus talked me through disassembling it, removing the offending parts, and had me send it to them ASAP with the illegally modified parts shipped separate from the rest of the gun.
The gun was returned to me two weeks later in 100% working and legal order.
I was mighty relieved to say the least so my opinion might be a bit biased as a result of that event. 16 years later, I still remember my fear of going to Federal Prison as clearly as if it were yesterday.

Friends don't let friends use the "friends don't let friends" quote.
Friends don't let friends use the "friends don't let friends" quote. :p

Oops. I did it too.

I'm going to have to test S&W customer service soon.

6 Week turnaround to replace a firing pin for me. The same time, maybe a couple weeks faster, than it took for S&W to return my revolver with a new cylinder stop.

Quit yer crying, wipe your tears, and learn from it. Now I know what to expect should mine ever glitch out on me. I own their autoloaders though, and they run sweet, hope I never have to deal with that issue.

Had a similar issue with jeep parts, took over 2 months to get a windshield frame replaced. Arrived just in time to finish the project the day before the rain started.... and the jeep is strictly convertible at this point. Ah feel yer pain.

Ordered new firing pin and mainspring for the used model 65 I just picked up.
Very nice CS Rep on the phone.
Total with shipping for parts $7.50
They will be here by next Monday.
They will be installed in about 15 minutes after delivery.
Learning basic mechanical knowledge of my firearms....Priceless.
Doc

Took a little over 6 weeks last summer to get mine back. Don't really trust. So now never shoot it. That way won't break and put me thru this again. I will have NO MORE OF OF THEIR GUNS. Buy S&W
