Hello gents, I'm having an issue with my Taurus PT 24/7 and was wondering if anyone had an idea which might save me a warranty return.

Here's the problem: the slide disassembly lever is prevented from rotating when the slide is locked back. In order to strip it, I have to pull and hold the slide all the way back, as the notch at the bottom of the slide is too far forward by about a sixteenth of an inch or so.

Is there anything I can do, short of sending it off for smithing? I'm not handy enough (nor do I have the tools) to cut the slide in order to improve the fit. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can you post some pictures? One of the left side with the slide forward, with the slide locked back, and with the slide removed if you can.

How much farther can you pull the slide back after its locked by the stop?

My camera is pretty mediocre, sorry about that. The slide has 1/4" of extra draw past where the stop holds it.

The protrusion at the end of the slide stop lever has sheared off (or is bent, but very unlikely) and the slide is coming to rest on the actual control lever. That's leaving the slide too far forward to rotate the disassembly pin.

Remove the slide and flip up the slide stop lever with the left side of the gun facing you. Immediately to the right of the control surface you'll see a U shaped cutout. The vertical protrusion to the right of that cutout is what the slide should come to rest on. Part of yours appears to have broken off. It could possibly be bent towards the center of the gun, but if that was the case the slide would be jammed hard. Either way, the damage should be pretty easy to spot with the slide off.

This protrusion is what you're referring to, correct?

This bit is bent inward slightly, and presses against the bottom of the rail when the slide stop is pushed upward. If I pull out gently on the stop and push it up, it travels up noticeably further than it does when stopped by contact with the rail (I did this for taking the picture). I presume this is the issue? I've also noticed a nice gouge on the inside of the slide, at the back of the slide stop notch, where the edge of the control surface was hitting it.

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Edit: with a bit of clever manipulation, I was able to pull out and push up on the stop at the same time while racking the slide, and it was stopped in the correct position. Thanks again for the insight!

Yes, that's the part I was speaking of. I am very surprised the bent lever didn't bind up the slide. When it gets behind the slide stop notch it gets pinched between the slide and the frame. That's why I thought it was broken rather than bent.

If I could trouble you just a bit further, would this be feasible, and more importantly, safe to fix by bending that prong outward a little, or am I stuck with a warranty call to Taurus?

Here's a picture of the gouge. It's about 1/4 of the way in to the slide at its deepest point.

There's no harm in just bending it out (that's probably all Taurus would do, anyway.) The worst case scenario is that it breaks and you have to send it in. As long as there isn't a burr from that gouge rubbing on the disassembly pin it will be only cosmetic. It's hard to tell from the photo angle but it doesn't look like a problem.

However, where's your extractor?

Weregunner, thanks for the link.

Mike, if I understand the PT 24/7's design (and am reading my manual's explosion) correctly, the extractor is external, and is the black bar on the bottom right of my most recent picture (partially cropped out).

Update:

I've got the slide stop adjusted (bent the flange outward), but the gouge on the inside of the slide means it won't catch there. It slides off the nub and contacts the control surface. Looks like I'm stuck with warranty servicing.

Thanks again to Mike for all the help.
