Taurus PT 145 Pro... BAD APPLE!

I have a PT99 that's 100% and accurate as I am....I had a Taurus revolver(805 I think) and it was great too.....but I'm not sure if I'd chance another Taurus after hearing people's horror stories......I had a horror story with a Dan Wesson mod 15 last year ,and it turned me off w/ DWs forever...so I know waht some of you are saying...

Update:

Gun was shipped off today with a note to correct the following problems:

1. Trigger bar has gauged slide. Replace slide or repair gauges.
2. Slide will not retract with trigger in forward position.
3. Magazine is stiff and requires force to remove from gun.
4. Bluing is rubbed off top of rear sight.

I'll post updates when and if I get the gun back from Taurus!

Well- I hope you get satisfactory results from the factory. How is the other pistol running? Perhaps just 1 bad apple. I have a PT-145 MilPro and so far I have had no problems whatsoever. I love it. Keep us posted.

Well, here goes. I got the gun back from Taurus with all three problems corrected. Don't know what they did to or with the magazine, or if it's a different magazine as I suspect but it drops free just fine now. The problems I identified are all gone. I'm not entirely sure they didn't just replace the slide, but the takedown latch is most likely the same. They did test-fire it and sent it out without cleaning as I imagined they would. The reason I suspect that they gave me a new slide is that the chatter marks are gone and it's original finish.

The one PT145 I've seen in person (bought by an aquantaince against his friends' advice) was unreliable and broke things regularly.

I like my PT111 so much that I picked up a stainless PT145 non-Pro at the gun show a couple of weekends ago for a very good price.

Trigger is much lighter and smoother than on my PT111 which in my example is good enough that I shoot the PT111 better than I do my Glock 17 despite the significantly shorter sight radius.

Put a couple of boxes of Wolf and Armscor FMJ thru it with zero failures out of the box. Seemed to shoot a bit smaller groups than the PT111 or was it just the bigger holes? :)

My only complaint is is like my PT945 it won't reliably feed my 200 gr Lead H&G 68 type SWC reloads. No problems with a mag full of Hydrashoks.

My PT111 came with night sights, since the PT145 sights were the same height and width and they are simpley screwed on, I swapped sights before I went to the range as I'd never carry a 9mm give I've a Kahr PM40. I'll use the PT145 on those ocassions I know I'll have to leave my piece in the car while I go inside and not risk my top three carry guns (Kimber Ultra Carry with CTC lasergrips, S&W SC360 Scandium .357 also with CTC lasergrips, or Kahr PM40) to theives.

I like having a small 10+1 45ACP that is perhaps a tad smaller, but a bit thicker than the Kimber UC that didn't cost an arm and a leg and shoots almost as well.

Time will tell how the PT145 holds up, but seems like a great llittle gun for $310.

I've had nothing but good experience with Taurus guns over the years and have ended up with more in my safe than I'd ever planned. But he only one that has gone thousands of rounds is my PT99, never a problem but take my endorsement with a grain of salt if you plan on heavy use. My wife choose it (PT99) to learn on after trying my PT111, FM HiPower and Glock 17 based on weight, recoil, and the groups she shot off a rest. Now that I got her to try my Kimber TLE II she's starting to think the 1911 might be a better choice for her CHL qualifer.

Grayrock:

I'm selling one of the two and I haven't shot the other yet. With my current schedule and the weather, it might be a while. Sorry. Haven't compered it side by side with the Glock either.

I carry a PT-111 24-7. It is and has been 100% reliable. The only problem I have had is a broken take-down lever, and that was after 3500 rds. I received a replacement part from Taurus in 3 days.
I have had very good service from customer service as I have ordered several mags and springs for my PT-111. I have been happy enough with Taurus to buy a Mod 85 revolver for my lady. :D

I thought all TFL-THR members took an oath to NEVER purchase another "Millinium", ESPECIALLY in .45 :)

As for Taurus firearms in general, I doubt MOST detractors (not including you Ala Dan) have ever owned one. It's like bashing Mini-14's for terrible accuracy and the Glock for Kb'ing... They are NOT bad firearms...

My entire family combined have owned a total of 8 Taurus pistols... PT92, PT99, PT100, PT-111 (yes, the 9mm Millinium), and snubbie revolvers in .357 mag, .38 Special, .32 Mag, and .22. Of all of those, the only problem EVER experienced was with Dad's .22. The hammer lock stuck up slightly too far and made contact with the frame when firing. He filed a bit off the top and never had another issue.

I'd buy a Taurus pistol any time, except for the PT-111, without hesitation if I needed an inexpensive, not-very-small, not-very-light weight semi or a "slightly bigger than S&W" revolver.

Honestly, if Taurus were to get the PT-145 reliable, I'd get another one!!
The ergonomics of the gun were perfect for me. Also, mine was wonderfully accurate in my hands, which I attribute to the above mentioned ergonomics.
I'd own another one in a heartbeat, IF the production and reliability problems were successfully addressed!! ;)

When Taurus manufactures the gun such that the return rate were to be ...say 5% of the total produced, then they would have me!! :what:

Until then... :barf:

Well I've owned 2 Taurus's that were junk (also know others that were crap as well) and owned a Mini-14 that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn door after 3 shots.

See why I don't own a Glock??? It's gonna blow up in my face.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is as good an endorsement for Taurus as I have ever seen from denfoote.

I never thought I'd see it. Where Taurii are concerned, I consider him the last rational skeptic.

I think there may yet be hope for us all.

Taurus, are you listening?

:)

Regards,
Rabbit.

I own a taurus revolver and I love it (M415) Never had any problems with it at all, in fact it is my night stand gun and the one I carry ferquently.
