Awhile back I was reading in one of my shooting magazines about the new Taurus 1911 they will be releasing. What I hear it will be the end of May. Everything I read points to it will be a heck of a good gun. What they said is allot of the work done on it in the states it would be a custom gun. I have never owned a Taurus gun. I was wondering what you think of them. I've shoot a few Taurus guns but not enough to know if it is a quality pistol and how it compares with the other brands out their. The article really got my interest in the 1911 they will have out in May but I just want to find out how good a Taurus gun is from some who have had some experience with that brand Thanks

I own three Taurus Pistols, a PT-92, a PT-911 and a Model 617B. The first two are 9mm semi-auto pistols. The PT-92 is a clone of the Beretta 92. The difference between the Taurus and the Beretta is the safety on the Taurus is mounted on the frame, and works just like that on a 1911 style semi-auto. The PT-911 is a medium frame 9mm. It's safety is also on the frame, and works like that on a 1911 style also. It does have the added decocker that Taurus added to their later model semi-autos.

The 617B is a snub-nosed 7 shot .357 magnum revolver.

I've had the PT-92 for over 13 years. It has never failed to work, and it has never jammed on me. The PT-911 I've had for just over a year now. It has not failed yet, and it also has never jammed. The 617B, I've had about 4 months.

All three pistols work fine. I find the fit and finish on all three to be excellent. It appears to be a bit better on the revolver than on the automatics, but I can't complain about any of them.

When the PT-1911 comes out, I intend to get one as well.

I was determined to get a PT1911's, but delay after delay has pushed me to a Springfield Armory Loaded, rather than wait until May, only to hear that Mid August, they will be sent out, for sure this time, honest... :scrutiny:

My Stainless PT111 MilPro, has digested over 2,500 rds with NO malfunctions of any type!
100% reliable. extremely accurate.
I may also get a PT1911 in time.. but Ill be getting one of the 24/7 in .45ACP first.

ip9.

My son-in-law has an early model Taurus PT-111 (9 mm) that he got as a wedding present from my daughter. It has been a great gun.

I've got two Taurus autos, a PT745C and PT92AF.

The PT745C is a problem. It has a consistent problem with light primer strikes, usually two and sometimes three times per magazine. Happens with every conceivable type of 45ACP I could find on store shelves or off my reloading bench. It's been back to Miami three times and come back with the same problem each time.

The PT92AF is awesome. Great shooter, eats any kind of 9MM I try and is easy to disassemble and clean. I love to shoot this gun!

So, I'm a little conflicted on the Brand Name... The 745 shoots well when it does fire and has a surprisingly light recoil for such a small 45, but it's FTF issues have pretty much relegated it to being a dust collector. The 92 is one of my favorite guns to shoot and has worked as Berretta substitute for a number of friends of mine having trouble with qualifying on the M9 and needing some off-duty extra range time (I'm in the USAF).

I'm curious to see their 1911 version come out...

I own three taurus handguns.

A PT22, PT92, and a PT145 which is my carry gun. All three have been perfectly reliable with good quality ammo. I say with good quality ammo particularly about the PT22, it eats CCI like candy, but most bulk value ammo will have it chokeing on built up crud within 50 rounds or so.

The PT145 has about 1200 through it, mostly Blazer and Winchester FMJ, not a single malfunction since opening the box.

The PT92 is the stainless steel model. It's pretty. Very pretty. So far only 400 through it, a mix of Remington and Winchester FMJ and JHPs, no problems so far, and I don't expect any.

I just ordered a Millenium Pro PT745 in stainless. Has anyone else had this problem with the 745?

It must be something made up. Two online dictionaries and Encyclopedia Britannica have no listing for the "plural" of Taurus. Must be something Taurus haters came up with. ;)

I've had my PT-145 for about 6 mo now, and never a jam. The DAO took a little time getting used to, but I have no problems with it now. I just put a snap cap in it and dry fired 2000 times before I even got it to the range. Long, but smooth. I like my Taurus!

There are currently two "Tauri" :)p ) in our family, my wife has an early PT-111 and I have a .357 Tracker revolver, no problems with either one (though I personaly find the 111 to be a little "snappy" for a 9mm)
I don't care when the 1911 finaly comes out, I'll at least take a look at em' :D

I should add, in all fairness, that I know three other PT745 owners that've had absolutely no problems with theirs. I'm hoping mine was just a monday morning or friday afternoon kind of thing at the factory... my real issue is the three return trips to the manufacturer without resolution :-(

Thank you. Fingers crossed, then, that I get a peach and not a lemon. :D

I have a PT945 that has been one of my most dependable handguns. I know sometimes they get mixed reviews but I have about 1800 rounds thru my 945 with no failures. I am planning on buying a PT24/7 .45ACP soon. I own several more expensive handguns (Colts, Springfield, S&W, Ruger), but for me Taurus quality & function seems to be a good as anything I own. So, I assume the 1911 will meet the same standards.

I have to agree with MadMag.

I have six Taurus handguns: 3 semi's (a 9mm and two .45's) and 3 revolvers (a .38 and two .357's). The oldest is the PT-92AF 9mm purchased in 1996 and the newest is the 651B .357 in 2004.

Never a problem with any of them.

The PT-145 Pro is my primary carry weapon.

Just keep them cleaned and well maintained.

I'm looking forward to the PT-1911!

Jim

I understand the PT1911C is out in stores now, in limited numbers. Also the full size PT1911 is available as well.

Anyone know what the current street price is?

by god, I am stoked to finally see a thread where Taurus is actually being supported! I have 3 tauri right now, 2 PT-99's and a 605, and I have been really happy with all three. I also owned a 24/7 for a time, and while I liked it just fine, I just like my PT-99's better.

I have a PT-92AFS that is about 14 years old now, a PT-911 that I got in Feb. 2005, and a Model 617B that I got about December of '05. I like them all. The 617B was a bit stiff until I took it out and put some rounds through it, but it's gotten a lot better now.

The PT-92 is my favorite carry weapon, with the 911 coming in a close 2nd. The 617B is my BUG, when I'm inclined to carry one. ;)

I'm hoping to look at the PT1911 soon. Have to decide if I want one or not. I'm seriously thinking about getting away from .45ACP guns. My luck with them seems to suck lately. And my shooting ability with 9mm is WAY GOOD! So I'm thinking seriously about dumping my .45s. Although, my Witness, I'll likely keep. I can get a 9mm conversion kit for it, for $195.00. Although I might try .38 Super too. ;)

Plural of Taurus, as Octopi is plural of Octupus.

Ooof, bad example: the plural of "octopus" is actually "octopusses". "Octopi" has been misused so much it has been accepted as correct by some. :D

(Sorry, I will stop now...)

I have a PT140 M. Pro which has been 100% through 750 rounds, more than half have been various JHPs. There have been no gun related failures, the one I had was clearly a bad round and not the fault of the gun (hard to blame a round that was basically a squib on the gun). I have one and used to have 2 other Taurus revolvers- all 100%.

You were almost prophetic when you said this back in March. The first of these guns finally hit the shelves in some areas about a month ago (late June/early July). Not quite August, but...
