Taurus Guns ??

I like Taurus

I have a Taurus MIL-PRO 40 that I have owned since January, I've put over 700 rounds downrange since January. I've zero failures or malfunctions with this gun, its accurate, lightweight, good looking, and fits my hand great. I would put this gun right up there with my XD 40, thats saying alot. I really like this pistol, I'd give Taurus a 100% endorsement, I'd buy another one tomorrow.:D

There are one or two guys that have finally gotten their PT1911 and done little reviews (you can probably google them), so they are out, albeit still in small numbers. They sound pretty awesome for the price. My Dad is planning on getting one so I'll have to do a side by side comparison with it and his Dan Wesson Patriot and see how it stacks up against a more expensive gun. I'd like a Kimber or SA, but for the price, the PT1911 sounds awful hard to pass up if it's all it's hyped up to be from the early prototype tests to the new end-user tests I've read. I sure hope so, they've kept us waiting long enough!

My Taurus PT940 is solid and dependable. A great pistol. I've had the 24/7 in both .40 and .45 - ended up trading them in on smaller guns for concealed carry. They were great pistols too - nothing wrong with them, other than that they were too big for my needs. Now if the 24/7 compacts had been out, then I might never have traded them. :D

My PT-145 Millennium Pro is completely reliable. The firing pin indents on fired primers aren't quite as robust as I would like them, but the darn thing goes "Bang!" every time I pull the trigger (providing I don't forget to chamber a round). :neener: Haven't tried all brands of ammo, but have used WWB, Milsurp, Federal, Taurus, & S&B.

It's my main carry piece.:D

Taurus Gossip

The owner of my favorite gun store was just telling me that Taurus is having problems with the frames on the new 1911. Since they went into mass production the frames have some sort of weekness. Another delay in getting them out in any quantity.

As far as my personal experiance with Taurus, my Mill Pro 145 was a excellent shooting gun. The big problem was failure to feed. It was just to unreliable to keep as a carry weapon.

9mm

I just bought a used Mil Pro 9mm and went out today with my dad and his barrage of guns (44 Mag, Glock .40, .32 stubby), and I have to say that I like my Taurus better than all/any of his pieces (except the look of that hand-cannon 44 Mag). I fired about 60 rounds through it, 5 of those being the 147 grain hollowpoints, the rest were cheapy Remmington 115 grain. At about 20 feet, I am a good 12-to-16-inches down on the target, but consistant. I guess the stomach is just as good as the chest. Any thoughts? I know the barrel is short, but this is crazy. How can I be so far off the mark?

I don't think the Glock .40 has much on the 9mm, they seem very similar to me, just has a longer barrel. I see no reason to spend more money for something that is not that much better or more powerful.

Cheers,
George

another vote for taurus......this time the pt-145 pro s/s

4000+ and no problems AT ALL

for the price....i am shocked at the quality

Ooof, bad example: the plural of "octopus" is actually "octopusses". "Octopi" has been misused so much it has been accepted as correct by some.

(Sorry, I will stop now...)

OK... Tauri, as in cacti.

Nice to see the PT145 getting some love, it was my first pistol, nice little gun for $300.

I took my PT145 to the range for the first time this afternoon. I only fired 50 rounds of S&B FMJ and 10 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 230 grain JHP, but the pistol fed both without a problem. The S&B hit three or four inches to the seven o'clock but the GD was right on target at 10 meters. Recoil was similar to my previously-owned Glock 30.

I've mentioned before that a compact .45 was on my short list for purchase. The PT145 was at least $150 less than a Glock 30 and it's performed equally as well. The addition of a manual safety is no small advantage either and the trigger was a bonus too.

However, I noticed that the finish seems to be wearing much more quickly than other pistols I've owned. While I don't consider this to be a dealbreaker by far (an NP3 finish on the slide isn't that costly), I thought it was at least fair to mention it. It will certainly not prevent me from making this pistol my primary CCW.

My two Taurus revolvers. Who needs Smith and Wesson and their MIM parts anyway??? These two Tauri..:p ..will match any Smith I've ever handled for trigger and accuracy. I have no gripes about fit and finish, either.

I've never owned a Taurus Auto, but the revolvers have impressed me enough that I wouldn't rule one out in the future.

In my experience Tauri are hit & miss. Some samples a very nice fit & finish wise. Others aren't worth a bucket of spit

I love my Taurus revolver. The gun is accurate and reliable. Just because it doesnt cost as much as some of the other brands doesnt make it inferior. I was thinking about picking up one of there 1911's when they hit the stores.

MCgunner, you've got some beauties there. I've been looking at them recently, and am almost certain that my next gun purchase will be a Taurus revolver, either in .44 or .357 Magnum.

As for their autos, I seem to be hearing better and better about them recently as well. I also like the look of their new 1911 models, although I'll probably wait a while before I buy one. I wouldn't mind one of those gold-trimmed pimp-looking pistols they sell either, although I'm not quite sure why. :D

What next?

Okay, so I have my Taurus 9mm Mil Pro, yadda yadda. NOW WHAT DO I BUY? Should I go for the tried-and-true 12-gauge pump tactical with 18-and-a-half-inch barrel with pistol-grip and folding stalk? Or should I go for another "big" handgun?

I do not hunt, this is only for home security...and shooting at targets in the cornfields.

I LOVE MY TAURUS 9MM...twelve rounds all within a 12X8 inch spread at 15 yards.

Cheers,
George

I don't know, I currently own three Taurus pistols. Two semi-autos and a revolver, and all three work just fine. I've only had one that I would call questionable. And even then I'm not real sure.

I had a Taurus PT-940. It's the same frame as my PT-911, but it was in .40 S&W. I noticed one time when I was dry-firing it, that sometimes the hammer would not drop all the way, it would stop at the half cock notch. I took it to the store where I'd bought it, and they checked it out and could not duplicate it. I have no idea how they were doing this.

When I got it back, I tried again. Sure enough, it did it again. Now, this was ONLY in Double Action mode, that this ever occured. And I NEVER seen it happen when I was firing live ammo. ONLY in dry-fire practice. Still, I decided to get rid of it. The guy I sold it to, says it works like a champ.

So what do I know!

PT 1911

Well, my son was telling me about the PT1911 and a day or two later I received my American Rifleman with the review and a full page ad for the 1911. I got tied up that day but the very next I was on a mission. I called the "big" dealer and they had none. I decided to see what my local guy had, he's a smaller shop but I've bought a PT745 as wellas a 24 7, and Keltec P11. I was stunned when he said "Look at the Taurus" At $450 it had to go with me. I would have liked a compact but they are unavailable. The PT1911 is Great and preforms flawlessly. I was concerned about concealed carry since it's longer that my Kimber Ultra Carry II but I bought a Blackhawk CGC holster. It works graet as well, it has a belt and paddle setup. I like paddles for when I'm "off limits" However it has a hook on the paddle which is OK but the 2 hooks for the belt are too much for me, I had a heck of a time getting it off, so I removed the belt hooks, which screw in, it has an adjustable cant and works great. As far as the availibility, my Local Guy handles lots of Taurus handguns all the time so maybe that's why he had several. It is most assuredly a lot of bang for the buck, and at that price I'm not worried about getting it banged around with daily use.

I've had the same experience. 2 out of 3 were perfect. The 3rd one needed warranty work right out of the box.
Generally, Taurus makes an excellent product. But they do let too many lemons out the door.

I am the owner of a Taurus small frame .357 magnum 3" revolver.

How do I like it.....well, I will have to let you know when I get it back. Taurus has had it longer than I have.

My first Taurus was a PT111 - it suffered from failure to fire, constantly. I returned it to the store, got something else and decided to pass on anything with Taurus stamped on it.

Then I read so many good reviews of their products and read about people owning several Taurus guns without nary an issue.

I was looking for a .357mag revolver so I thought, heck....I will give Taurus another shot.

I ordered online. Went to my FFL to take possesion....looked it over, seemed good and tight. Took it home.

Later went to clean her up for shooting and about passed out when I looked down the bore. Chatter marks down the full length of the barrel......."chunks" of rifling missing.....shallow rifling at best.......then there was the rust.

Other than that its a great gun :scrutiny:

What is the model of your Taurus .357? I have a 617B. It's a 7 shot revolver with a 2" barrel. So far it's worked just fine.

I suppose there are going to be some lemons out there from just about any gun maker. I've been told by a Glock owner that apparently Glock is having some QC issues. I guess no one is immune.

Good luck, hope your Taurus works right when you get it back.

Was it NIB when you bought it, or used? Not that it makes much difference, new or used, I'd never expect a firearm to be that bad, regardless who made it.

Any word from Taurus on when you might get it back?

I bought it NIB from Buds Gun Shop. I spoke to Robert at Taurus who said he could get it back to me in 2 weeks, since then he has stopped returning my calls. I got tired of leaving messages......spoke to someone else who said more like 4 to 6 weeks.

Wow, that sucks. I'd rather someone OVER-estimate the time, than under-estimate. I've heard horror stories and great stories about Taurus customer service. I guess it just depends on who you talk to there.

My only experience was in ordering 15 round mags for my PT911. I ALMOST thought I was going to have to send my PT92 back once for a cracked frame. Fortunately I have a friend who knows metal working, and he checked it for me, it wasn't a crack. It was a line in the frame that is supposed to be there. Actually, it's more like a ridge.

Did they at least tell you what went wrong with your revolver?
