Taurus M44 44 Mag question.

I have a used Taurus M44 44 mag revolver. I fired about 12 rds through it today and was planning to shoot some tommorrow. But Problem is, I was cleaning the revolver Cylinder holes, I ran about 3 tight fitting patches through the cylinder when all of a sudden the cylinder and yoke came off of the frame. I have never had this to happen to me with any other revolver that I have. I looked in the hole where the yoke goes and there was a cylinder stop plunger and spring. I fished it out and replaced it in the yoke and replaced the yoke and cylinder in the frame and tighened the screw on the side of the frame. Should I be concerned about the timing or anything? Everything looks to be working fine,but Im afraid to shoot it now. Please help.

I don't think you have a problem. The cylinder assembly is held in by the front sideplate screw. If in the process of cleaning the gun you loosened that screw the cylinder would come off as you described. If you put the cylinder stop spring back inside the yoke, put the yoke & cylinder back into the frame, and retightened the screw you should be fine. Go to the range and have fun.

Agree with Old Fuff.
All the parts still there, you good to go.
Not a bad idea to keep track of screw integrity tho.
If one of em repeatedly shoots loose....a tiny drop of fingernail polish will secure it yet not nail it so tight that hard for YOU to get it out at will.

Your revolver should be just fine, but keep an eye on those screws; they can loosen under recoil.

The screws on my M44 do come loose. Especially the one in the middle on
the right side. Blue Loctite works wonder, especially when using heavy loads.

For you fellas that helped me out Wensday night, have a look at my post about PMC 240gr Gas Checked ammo. The 44mag shot pretty darn good for someone that was expecting a KA BOOM. And believe me that bad boy went KA BOOM in a good way.

Something else to keep an eye on is the ejector rod working loose. A friend of mine has the M44 and had a problem with that at first. A pair of pliers and some loctite solved the problem. Also remember it's a reverse thread.

Other than that problem his has been a good solid (big!) 44.

BLUE Loctite! STPRMON1 said it, but just to reemphasize, BLUE Loctite ... or you may never get it apart again when you want to!
