I found myself with a little extra cash and a bad itch for a new gun - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...cker-combo-9-shot-revolver-22lr-22wmr.832022/ and https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...10-bore-upper-receiver-for-ar15-lower.832086/ but I sort of came to my senses and ended up taking advantage of a good deal from Davidson's on a Taurus M66 .357 Magnum 4" Bbl 7-Shot Stainless Steel Revolver.

My shooting buddy has one and really likes his, so I followed suit. I took it out to the range for the first time this morning. It was a damp day in southern Illinois so we did not get to set up any paper targets but shot at some steel. My first three shots at the four inch spinner from ten yards all connected. My best cylinder full of reloads hit that spinner six out of seven (I think I got a little cocky after six in a row and missed the last shot due to lack of focus) at a little over ten yards in Double Action. The wide trigger feels great and I found that I liked the DA trigger pull even better than my 3" S&W 686+. I will take them both out next week if the weather co-operates and see how they compare directly.

I read about lots of people who dislike Taurus revolvers - maybe I have just been lucky, but this M66 and my M85 snubby .38 special are now two of my favorites.

In spite of the negative opinions that are on the internet, Taurus does make some really good firearms. I have a Taurus 990 .22LR revolver that has a double action pull nearly as nice as my S&W 17. It was good out of the box but, has improved with use over the years. Your 66 is a fine looking revolver that obviously shoots as well as it looks. Buying it through Davidson’s is a smart way to protect yourself in the event of a product fault.

I love Taurus wheelguns. There is 1 requirement for me that most of the world would never consider, I rip it apart before I even fire it. Every gun maker knows that their revolvers will probably never be opened up so they don’t worry with a polished pristine finish inside the mechanism, and Taurus follows suit. I look for any burrs, chips, or issues, clean those up with an emory board “borrowed” from the wife, and clean all the factory lube off. I reassemble the gun, give it a quick shot of gun oil before the sideplate goes back on, and I’m done.

I had a seven shot, blue, Taurus 66, with a 4" barrel that I thought was one of the nicest 357's I've ever owned. That gun was as nice in every respect as any Smith & Wesson Model 19 I've ever owned.

Alas, I traded it off when I got bit by the concealed carry bug.

I own a Taurus Model 66 6" 7 shot and it has been a great revolver. I also own a Taurus Model 94 9 shot .22LR and it has been good as well. I sold my 6.5" Raging Bull .44 Mag to get a Ruger SRH, but that revolver was a good one as well. I recently bought a Tracker 627 4" but have yet to shoot it. I will let everyone know how that one went.

My first "real" handgun was a 4" Taurus Model 66 that I bought from a co-worker in 1987 or so. It was an excellent shooter. In the early 2000's it was stolen in a burglary. I replaced it with a 4" Model 689 (a slightly fancier Model 66). It is also an excellent shooter. Within the past year or so I got an "old model" Taurus 66 with a 6" barrel. Its trigger is ridiculously good. My S&W Model 14 is my only DA 38 or 357 that's comparable in trigger pull and accuracy.

I hope the OP enjoys his Model 66 as much as I've enjoyed mine.

You did well. I have a blued Taurus 66 and a Smith 686. If I ever sell one, it will be the S&W. The Taurus had a smoother DA pull, is lighter, has better grips, and surprisingly has less issues. And it holds 1 more round. Better grips too. The Smith SA pull is, well, perfect, but the Taurus ain't bad.

I obtained a new Taurus 82, the equivalent of the Smith model 10 last year. Very pleased with the DA trigger and accuracy. Lots of gun for the money. Also my 82 does not have the safety lock in the hammer.

I also have the blue 66. Great gun.
I have it on my side every time I go hog hunting.

I would never buy a semi-auto Taurus,,,,just revolvers.

I also own the Taurus Raging Bull in .454 LOVE IT!!!

I think Taurus make some very good revolvers and pistols. Here's my Taurus 66 .357 Mag. seven shots revol. I also have the Taurus 65.

I have a stainless 357 Tracker. It's very nice but I can shoot my Ruger Security six better.
