I keep buying magazines, researching forums, etc. in my quest for the next handgun. I do not plan on buying another for several months, BUT has anyone here had any experience with the Millenium Pro series from Taurus?

Fairly reasonably priced. My wife has a Taurus PT-22 and it is junk. It has had a history of mis-firing and now the firing pin is broken. That is the extent of my experience with the Taurus line.

Thanks.

I have a PT-145 Millennium Pro (new model with the light rail) that has over 2000 rounds through it with no malfunctions. I had some reservations at first with all the bad publicity of earlier models but the new models seem to have the bugs out.

The trigger has a long draw but if you are an old revolver lover like me, it wont be any problems. At first the trigger was a little rough but the action smoothed us nicely and is now like dragging your finge through water. The accuracy is far better that I would have expected from such an inexpensive gun. Mine cost me about $265.00 at a gun show. Recoil is actually less that all three of my 1911 style guns. Double tapps are effortless.

This gun is always in the right front pocket of any clothes that I wear. It is my primary office carry and a BUG to all my 1911 style guns.

I have attached a picture of the gun and last target shot at 15 yards. That's two 10 round clips worth of 230gr. Federal Hydrashoks causing that ugly hole to form in the paper.

1. Go to AUTOLOADERS forum (this is general handgun discussion);
2. Use "search" function;
3. Type in "Taurus Millenium"
and you will find at least 8 threads on your first results page alone discussing the Taurus Milleniums (Pro, non-Pro, PT-111, 140, 145) ... and most of the posts will be favorable.

I have had a Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro for a few months now and I love it. It is very well made, good fit and finish (though the durability of the matte blue finish leaves a little to be desired- consider the stainless if you don't plan to go with an aftermarket finish), fits most hands very well, points well, is quite accurate at combat ranges (short and medium range), and is reliable. Mine is fairly new, 450 rounds, and the only one problem was clearly ammo related- now 450 rounds out of a gun without a bobble isn't that impressive, but the initial break-in 450 rounds without a bobble is relatively impressive. Even my best friend is impressed with it- he is a Kimber and Kahr guy who's "cheap" gun is a CZ 85 Combat.

I own 6 Taurus handguns, 3 semi's and 3 revos'. Never a problem with any of them.

My first was a PT-92AF in 1995. Lost count of the rounds through it many years ago. Still functions perfectly. Sorry to hear that your 92 has such a bad track record. You might want to take advantage of the lifetime warrenty and get it overhauled. What have you got to loose?

I've owned the Millenium Pro PT-145 for two years. Over 1200 rounds and never a malfuction. The only issue I has was the rear site started to come loose at about round 900. Tighened it with a screwdriver and never looked back.

The PT-145 is my primary carry weapon. Reliable. Easy to conceal. 10+1 capacity. I love it.

Take care.

Jim

I have two MilPro .45s. Approx 300+ rounds through each with no problems. One of them is with me all the time as my primary carry gun. I think they're great.

I bought a Taurus Milenium PT140 against the advice of a salesman at Target Sports in Royal Oak, MI. He said his dad had one that continually misfed.
Knowing what I wanted, I didn't listen to him.
Well, I had the same problem with mine. First round in a full mag would "nosedive" against feed ramp. Happened with all three mags I had on hand. I took the mags apart and compared to the parts in my H&K USP40. The USP mag's follower had longer 'legs' to guide it, so I swapped followers, then swapped springs as well. Never could get the PT140 to feed reliably.
Next, I sent the gun back to Taurus in Florida with detailed description of my problem and what I had tried. That cost me $51.
In the fullness of time (actually, about two weeks) my gun was returned with some cryptic notations about adjusting the fraministat and polishing the rizenkizen. Didn't help.

Next step was to trade the PT140 in for something more reliable. I Bought a
Sig P239 in .40 S&W. What a difference! That Sig cost only about $200 more than the PT140.

The Taurus is the only gun I've ever given up on and sold. But I require 100% reliability on my carry guns, and I couldn't see ever getting there with the Taurus. When I was looking at Sig's, one gun shop owner told me that while he sold lots of Taurus Milineums in 9mm & .45ACP,he had stopped carrying the PT140 because too many customers had experiences like mine. He wouldn't even take my PT140 in trade! I eventually found another dealer to take my gun in trade, but I had to eat the cost of the factory nite sights and an extra mag to sweeten the deal. :banghead:

this is for sluggo

Read the first post. He was asking about the MIL PRO version, not the old version. Totally different gun.

Stolivar:
With all respect, I read the first post and know the difference between my original Milenium & the current Milenium Pro.

Taurus deserves credit for recoginizing they put out a bad product and superceding it as soon as possible. That sure doesn't help owners of the original version. But it makes you wonder about the Taurus product development process. How could they not see the problems I, and many others, had with the PT140? How can I ever give them another chance?

My main point in my first post was that for what I lost in shipping and the trade, I could have had that (ultra-reliable) Sig P239 in the first place.

BTW: I do own other Taurus firearms - revolvers - that work quite reliably. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Taurus wheelgun if one caught my fancy, but I'm done with Taurus pistols.

Then why did you respond as you did. The question was clearly about the quality of the Millennium Pro which is quite good. It is a totally different gun than the old Millennium you had. With all due respect, what you posted is equivelent to someone answering a post requesting information on the S&W 39xx pistols and answering about a bad experience with one of the 1st generation S&W Sigma pistols.

Another vote for the Taurus Millennium Pro. I have a PT-145 stainless pro model that I've carried with no qualms for a couple of years now. Bought a couple of extra mags for it from CTD, and, after a few initial FTFs when I was breaking it in, never had a malfunction. Have approximately 1500 rds through it now, mostly WWB, with a mix of premium Hydra-Shoks and some other premium types without a bobble.

Just recently qualified under Texas TCLOSE LE standards for my HR218 qualification. Gun let me down -- only shot 99%. :D

Of course, with the maximum range being only 15 yds, Ray Charles could have qualified if someone had pointed him in the right direction! :what:

Hey guys, I'm new here & was only trying to be helpful. In my book, any company that makes guns that don't work right cannot be trusted with my life - ever. I wouldn't own a S&W semi-auto for the same reason - ever. I do own a S&W 686 revolver which I would put up against any revolver in the world. At least S&W publicly stated that the Sigma pistols were good for less then 5,000 rounds. Taurus never said anything about the original Millenium PT140 being a dud. One can only hope that no customers died finding out in the field.

Those guns are good punching holes in paper, not protecting your life.

So, I'll stay off your autoloader forum.

sluggo

Yes, you are new here, and you were not helpful. When somebody ask about the quality of a certain weapon they do not want to hear about another type of gun. Answer the question they ask about and don't give an opinion not related to the question. get it now.

ps I hope this was helpful.

Let me Guess-A Sigma? Because if you say 3rd gen steel or alloy, I'm going to wave the BS flag. The metal smiths have an excellent reputation and I have to concurr, since I own 4 (5906,4006,1006,4506)and they all function flawlessly.

I've been abusing the heck out of my PT145 (Millinium Pro if you guys are going to make me qualify myself) the only problem I've had is with my cast SWC reloads not going into battery, I've about decided it's a load issue. Over a thousand rounds and I've made her my constant carry gun. Never thought I'd givce up a wheel gun.
And FWIW, I had a S&W Sigma 380 that just reeked, and I wouldn't buy a S&W auto, but mainly because I find them visually unpleasant.

And as a side note, you guys want to ease up on Sluggo. I see alot of post here jumping him for not answering the original question, but apparently it's alright to highjack a post to ridicule a new member. Way to welcome a guy in.

BTW, Welcome to the board Sluggo, it's usually better than this.

Ditto. And I would add, surprisingly accurate, as bigmike's target illustrates.

Another proud owner of the PT145. My understanding is that the Pro has even better features.
My PT is my primary gun. Its not a beautiful gun like a Kimber or something, but it holds 10+1 of .45, it shoots decent, and the price was right.
Get it. You know you want it.
PS, I've shot some PT22's that were great.

+1 on that.

Denfoote constantly berates the Taurus because he had a PT-145 Millennium that developed a frame crack (as did quite a number of them at that time). Although Taurus fixed the problem, he couldn't bring himself to trust it ever again, so became a Glockaholic. Nobody beat up on him for stating his opinion.

He and Sluggo need to acknowledge that the manufacturers fixed the problems with the early versions of their weapons, and move on. I have the same problem with Kel-Tec -- after my P-11 physically broke for the 3d time, even though the manufacturer replaced it with a brand new weapon with my old SN#, I traded it. But I know there are many happy P-11 owners out there, and don't disparage their choices. They got good ones. I didn't. Every manufacturer produces a lemon, now and then. I've heard of members having major problems with the Sig P-239 that Sluggo raves about. If we all accept the fact that different individual guns perform differently, we can get on with discussing what features we like or dislike and why.

Just my $.02 worth.

What amuses me the most about Denfoote is he continues to berate the Taurus Millenium, yet sings the praises of the S&W Sigma every chance he gets.

--wally.

BTW all,

What are the major differences between the old PT's and the new Pro models? Are the new Pro triggers better than the older ones? My dad has the PT145 and may be looking at the Pro model.

Greetings All-

If memory serves me correctly, Taurus had many issues with the ole'
Milleniums; but now that era has passed and we have the Millenium
Pro's. For those that don't know, I'm in the firearms business; and we
sell a lot of the Taurus MP's; due in part to price, size, warranty, and
the fact that they have a positive external safety. To my surprise, of
the ones we've sold, no one has returned one for warranty repairs!

I also vote for Millenium Pro. My PT-745 is 100% reliable so far with a variety of factory ammo. And I actually carry it. I've tried to make a full-size 1911 my main carry gun; later, a Sig P-229 in 357 SIG; but I never reliably carried these big guns. The only gun I ever reliably carried was by Kel-Tec P-32. Then I decided to move up to .45 ACP and stay there. So, I adopted a couple of new carry modes (gun rug on belt and Thunderwear) and I bought the smallest 45 I could find. I used to be armed, now I'm well armed. Kahr has since come out with a 45 that looks pretty good, but still not as good as the Taurus.

I'll say this too, the trigger on my PT145 is smoother than any other DAO trigger I've had, but it's also longer. First time I had it out I had some problems not letting it return all the way to reset. Had to kinda modify my thinking.

My wife has a Millennium and I have a Pro, both PT145's. We have never had a problem with either. Mostly WWB JHP and Winclean ammo, and I have lost count of how many rounds through each. I have half a dozen mags and they all work great in both guns. 10+1 in a handy package, smaller than a G30 and for way less money. We both have CHL's and we carry these two as primary or backup quite often.
