I know there are many differences, and some similarity in both of the above pistols. Taurus for approx. $300, and SCCY (pronounced "Sky" ) about $275 (give or take).

Please give us your opinions re: value, functionality, concealability, defense, dependability, etc., et al....between the two.:)

Taurus or SCCY (Sky)

The SCCY is made in the good old USA, not China, or Austria, or Brazil........
Good reason to buy.

By the way, the company goes by SCCY since the original company name was Skyy, but had legal problems with Skyy Vodka because of the name/spelling (as I understand it).

That's strange since I don't think anybody drinks a gun, or shoots a vodka (except in those tiny glasses).:neener:

Neither company is a leader in the industry when it come to quality but I'd take the SCCY over the Taurus.

I've never heard of SCCY hassling owners to pay the shipping and I've never heard stories of SCCY sending a pistol back with the same problem it was sent in for.

The Taurus series you mention has a great reputation. I have the .45 version. It has been perfect as far as function goes and it is very accurate too. But there are differences between generations of these pistols. If it doesn't say Millennium Pro I think I would avoid it. The third generation models were the best. There were only minor problems that could be fixed on the second generation models but the originals had problems with cracking frames. Those are the ones that don't have "Pro" in the name.

Taurus is always hit or miss of course but almost everyone that has a later generation Millennium Pro loves it.

I'm not at all familiar with the other pistol.

We returned proportionately as many SCCY guns as Tauruses for "issues". My favorite one was the SCCY that came with no rifling. They were faster and better with customer service.

I had a Taurus MilPro and thought it was a very well made gun. Never had any problems with it and only sold it because I didn't care for the way it felt in my hand. The balance and handling were just "off" enough to me that I really didn't like shooting it all that much. I have no experience with SCCY guns.

I would choose the Taurus. One thing most don't meantion is buying from a LGS that will ship warrenty issues back to the manufactuer for you. I bought a PT709 that had light strike issues and LGS sent it back and within 3-4 weeks, it arrived back with a nicer barrel. They even replaced the back plate I scratched trying to disassemble the slide.

SCCY is the new kid on the block and I myself would wait before buying one of their products.

Someone told me SCCY was started by some old Keltec employees. Anyone have anymore info on that?

I have a SCCY CPX 2, I have about 1000 rounds thru it and carry it as my CCW. I have no problems with it. It shoots great. I wanted a low profile slide release for carry (lefty), I called and they sent one free. So far great Company.:D

I think this is probably the first post I've ever read where someone said they'd take a Taurus over brand X, LOL! I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I just find it surprising given all the semi-auto Taurus hate out there.

Never shot the SCCY but the trigger on the Millennium I had was right up there with the Keltec P11 maybe worse.

I have both, SCCY CPX-2 and a Taurus PT111 G2. I like both of them and CCW both. The trigger pull on the CPX 2 is long and heavy-ish but I prefer that on a gun with no safety and 1 in the chamber. Revolver like and I like revolvers.

Taurus trigger is nice.... short and light.

I find the recoil with either to be very manageable and both shoot accurately for short sight radius guns.

I'd recommend either, whichever "fits" you better. Both are terrific values.

I have 2 SCCY's, one is the CPX1 in TT, it has way over 1,000 rounds thru it without a problem.

The other is the CPX2 in Blk, it is my EDC, it has a few hundred rounds thru it. It has yet to have it's first issue.

Remember these are made in the U.S. with U.S. labor and carry a forever warrenaty regardless who owns them or who bought them.

I'd take the sccy over any taurus. I'd also trust the sccy warranty over the taurus warranty as far as fixing an issue in a timely manner. Too each their own though........

Guy running it now came from glock. I do not believe the owner of sccy came from keltec. Can't seem to verify it one way or the other with credible sources.

Support The Homeboys

Taurus is located in Brazil, while SCCY (Sky) is in Daytona Beach, FL (USA).

I like to support my fellow Americans, and wish no ill will on South Americans, but I would rather keep my money at home.

Would you, especially with a lifetime guarantee ?:)

If the Taurus is a G2 get it. This is one that Taurus got right. It is a good pistol. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive for a reason.

G2 can be had around $250 and as Pukindog12 said, reviews are good. If you can hold them both to get a feel for which fits you best...that would be helpful.

I just picked up a cpx2 yesterday for $227 + tax. I had no reason to buy it but I had $200 to blow and had read a lot about them. I got out last night and put 100 rounds or so through it (including 4 different types of jhps). It worked flawlessly. The trigger is not good - it is long and I was prone to short stroking it...but the bullets went where you pointed the gun.

I found my new truck gun and I wasn't even looking.

So far, SCCY is slightly ahead, in the reviews.

I counted 8 for SCCY, 7 for Taurus, and 5 neither or both (excluding mine). This is purely a subjective guesstimate.
