Hi Guys I am new to this forum. I am considering the purchase of a Taurus Millennium PT 138 .380 Stainless Steel. I have been reading so many complaints about this gun, but have there been any problems with the calibre I am going to buy ? If so what batch/serial no./date of manufacture.Looking foward to your imput.

Andrew

I don't know about any frame issues with the PT138. However, there some out there they dislike the triggers of all PT-1XX models.

BTW, is that particular model a blowback or does it have a locking breech? If the latter, I'd imagine it would have pleasantly mild recoil.

amaingot,
Welcome to THR.

I would suggest running a search on Bersa Thunders on this forum before you go and buy the Taurus. I have never heard a bad word said about them and you can pick one up for what you would pay for the Taurus.

STOP ! DON'T BUY THAT TAURUS !!!

Flashpoint has an excellent idea, by suggesting that
you check out the Bersa Thunder .380 line. As my ole' friend
Snowdog pointed out, there have been numerous
bad report's on the Taurus PT-1XX series; in particular the
PT-111. Due to these report's, and the excellent reviews
of the .380 caliber Bersa; I'd leave all Tauri self-loaders
in the dealers show cases!:D :uhoh:

I had one of the first Taurus 380s many years ago...HATED IT! Found a buyer for it easy enough & rolled the $$ into a real gun. I'm sure there are better quality options out there for ya...keep looking ;)

I really like the design myself. My GUESS is that it would be fine. (The .380 shouldn't punish the polymer so much. ???) BUT it IS a "new gun" so you might at least want to check on reliability reports from the first buyers.

I am still carrying my PT-111 with no problems. (I had more problems with my Beretta than I've had with the Taurus - and the Beretta is newer and less used!)

I've been carrying a PT-111 for some time now. I have put around 3000 rounds through it with only one malfunction. The take down pin sheared. This seems to be the only longterm problem I have seen. That pin was replaced by taurus in less than a week. I also bought a spare. The problem with the PT series was in the early models, you can tell easily if it might apply by checking for the internal lock and chamber indicator. If it has neither, leave it where you found it, was the subframe pins would break and fall out. This has since been addressed and cured.
I have also done a few mods to mine and it has greatly improved the performance of the 111. First I added a Houge Handall Jr grip and then applied the new Decal grip to the upper portion of the grip not covered by the Handall Jr. That helped a great deal with the mag release being depressed while in my fanny pack holster. Next I polished the end of the trigger bar, rounding and smoothing the stamped metal. And finally I didn't like the rough texture of the trigger surface. I smoothed it to a glass smooth finish by polishing the surface with a Scotch scouring pad. My Pt-111 Is still kickin' out the brass and in my holster every day all day. By the way my work on the trigger bar has smoothed it to where I now like it better than the new "Pro" version.
:D

Thanks for all the relative info. My model .380 serial number begins with KSD. What year would that be?
