Taurus Model 82 .38 Special

I came across this Taurus Model 82 with 4 inches barrel and need some info . This is very old model because it still has the firing pin mount on the hammer (not transfer bar),the cylinder flute has this longtitude ridge like tool mark on and the tool mark also on the top strap (it would also cutting the glare , I suppose ). I assumed that this is one of the earlier Taurus and would like to know a little bit of its history such as what year this revolver was imported and what is the variation etc ? .I did some research on the net and only find the newer and much prettier Model 82 and nothing mention about this old version. Am I assume correctly that this revolver must have some sort of acceptable quality so that it allow Taurus to get a foot hold on American market 30 or 40 years ago ?

Im not certain about the particular revolver but Ive heard from several sources that Taurus will NOT service their older revolvers. Im not sure when the cut-off date is.

Well, they do have that life time warranty, but I don't know when that came about.

One thing you can do is use the "Find My Model" database on the Taurus website. Jusy type in your serial number.

I had the very model you are refering too. It proved to be the most accurate .38 I have ever shot. Sadly, the firing pin was more rounded than it should have been and didn't provide consistant primer strikes. It could have been easily fixed, but I didn't feel like dicking with it and I needed trading fodder.

Had one, had to send it in for service, Taurus charged me both times, turned out to be a complete lemon. Tghe oneswith the ridge cylinder flutes were built well before the lifetime warrantee, and are NOT the same quality of worksmanship. Traded it in as part payment for a Smith model 10-8. MUCH better.

I would look for something other than the older Taurus model 82. Also as far as The Taurus "life time" guarantee, they may service a discontinued model until parts run out!! Personally I've had some very good and also some P---poor service from Taurus.

Thank everyone for the info. I am going to give this one a shot until I can get a hold of Smith M10 .
