Taurus Moon Clips

Ok guys, i just bought a Taurus Revolver, in 9mm. Not sure the model number at the moment. Anyways, i'm having a hell of a time removing the brass from the moon clips.


Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? I seem to be bending the moon clips when i try to remove them.

Dang, Pylon, I've got one (905) and I have trouble keeping rounds IN the moon clips. Nice gun. NOt as sure about the moon clips. SW clips won't fit over the star. Thinking about trying some Ruger SP101 clips and see if they work. BTW, no suggestions on you problem.

Lol, its all good. At least i've learned something new now. Now i know that these clips can be so loose that rounds will fall out. ahhhHHH!!!!!

I'm just dying to hear from the hardcore rimless cartridge guys out there. I know your reading!!!!

I find all this suprising as I have never had any problems, loading or unloading, the moonclips for my 45 ACP Tracker. You'd think that the same same technology on a smaller scale would work out just fine. Maybe Taurus hasn't done their homework.

From what I have heard from others is that it all depends on the ammunition used.

It seems that there are enough variations of extractor groove geometry in 9mm cases from one manufacturer to the next that some are tight and some are loose.

This is true. I had used a 625 in .45 ACP for some time and the type of ammo didn't seem to matter, but the tolerances are close enough to make a difference in other guns. I don't know about the 9mm, but when I first got my 627 8-shot I got disgusted early on because the rounds would be in the clip, but were so loose that it was very difficult to get them into the gun because they flopped all around. I sent an email to Jerry Miculek and he answered promptly and told me that the clips he used with his 627, from TK Custom, were calibrated for use with Federal brass (I had been trying to use Lawman). That's where my clips were from too, so I went out and got some Federal ammo and voila, they work like a champ. I've also seen brass that doesn't have a little groove right under the head that is a problem - the clips seem to need that. TK also sells tools that debrass the clips, which may be of assistance. I have never worked with the Taurus 9mm Stellar Clip, but I have a 455 in 2" and another in 4" and I have never had a problem with the Stellar Clips. A friend came to me with a bent clip for his 455 and asked the same question this week. I loaded and unloaded a couple of clips for him and we both noticed that I held the case by the primer and mouth and pulled straight away from the center of the Stellar Clip instead of twisting the cartridge by the nose, which was what he was doing.
