Just got my new American Rifleman today with the Taurus' new 1911. I'm kind of skeptical and I'm curious to see what you all think. Two years ago I bought a Springfield 1911 GI mil-spec for $430. I'm wondering if what Taurus is offering is worth an extra $170?

That's a loaded stainless model with a fair amount of goodies that didn't come on your GI model, all for $599, they gave the price for blued and it was around $450 if I remember correctly. The writer liked the pistol, it was quite accurate, but it was a prototype that he shot and it might have been tightened up some. It will be interesting to see some more write ups on production guns as they become available.

some one on these boards needs to break down and buy one or else nobody will :p

I am fully capable of making my own decisions regarding gun purchases but I always feel more secure in them when I get feedback from THR members.

I went looking for one last night, but couldn't find one. Guess it's a bit early yet. But I didn't go home empty handed, a parked Springfield 1911 G.I. decided it wanted to come home and live with me.:D

Guess you were just destined to bring home a Brazil-made 1911.

On a side note, the reason I would never consider the Taurus:

The ILS is in the hammer!:barf:

As far as I can tell no one except a couple of writers has seen the Taurus 1911. It's kind of like computer vaporware, they announced it last year, maybe it will show up next year. Reminds me of Remington and their Russian double rifle. And I for one have actually tried to find one, I'm interested in one, but ...

Do a search on the 1911 forums (I'll let you find em yourself) and you'll find a couple of reviews from people who've bought them........also a search here should reveal a thread with a review as well

Suprisingly, there is not much information on the Taurus website about the new PT1911. They do show a PT1911B with some specs and an MSRP of $599. There is a statement that shows a 3rd quarter 2006 release.

With the advertised price of $599, I wonder what the typical market price will be? The PT1911 looks like a match (in terms of extras) for the Springfield Full-size "Loaded" model which has an MSRP of anywhere from $900 to $1000.

Would be great to see online distributor prices around $450-500!

What I found very interesting in the AR article was they mentioned Taurus was going to sell a Colt CCO sized PT1911C with a 4.25" barreled Commander slide on a short 6 round Officers frame. :)

I've been waiting to see one for over a year. Any idea of how the parts change out?

I've shot two GI 1911 quite a bit, but never had to work or mess with one. What is a "ILS"?

"ILS" = "Integral Locking System"

On my two Springfield 1911's, it's a little circular cut out in the mainspring housing, containing a circle of metal with two little holes in it. You insert a "key", and turn the circle either one way or the other, locking the action or unlocking it.

It may appeal to some folks, but I find it completely unnecessary and I just ignore it.

I handled one the other day. It was a blued version and the STICKER price was $450. When they say it is fully loaded, they mean it. Good sights, ambi safety. Pretty nice gun really. I would like to see what one can do at the range.

The article in American Rifleman reported 6-7lb trigger pull, ouch. Other than that it had a good review.

Ok so maybe JMB never thought about the ILS but I sure think it is stupid and useless and possibly even dangerous if it ever malfunctioned.

A 6-7lb trigger pull wouldn't bother me unless I was trying to shoot matches with it. My Springfield has probably about a 5 to 6 lb trigger and i like it. When you think about it though, a 6-7lb trigger is NOT bad for a factory gun.

A 6-7 lb 1911 trigger is still much better than most other types...safe action, DA, etc, etc.

Luckily it's a 1911 so almost any gunsmith can easily fix that.

I may have been the first to post here concerning the Taurus PT1911. That was over a month ago and about 850 rounds of miscel. ammo........not one problem. The trigger on mine is not 7 lbs.....it's around 5 and very crisp.

I've got to Springers to compare it too.........it's hanging right in there.

Taurus 1911

I've had mine for a month. Several good shooter friends have been impressed - all favorable comments. Paid about $500. All my magazines and all my ammo function flawlessly in it.
