Taurus PT-1911

I bet this was gone over a lot. But I haven't been on the site much,

Does any one have any range reports on this.

I'm liking what I have read on them, And im thinking of getting one in stainless.

Are these worth it.. or should I buy Smith and wesson..

You are going to get alot of different opinions on this ---or none! Personally I enjoy mine ( one of the first offerings) accurate, reliable, basic 1911 profile, smooth action, Several thousand rounds, and have never had a failure to feed, or fire. Can't say I like the exaggerated "semi scroll work", but it does start to dull out with use. Don't know about the newer SS models, but the original ones work just fine.

a buddie of mine has one. But i didnt get a chance to shoot it yet, I will give it a try out this spring..He loves it. so far. so i will keep a eye out for one on sale.

I have been more than impressed by mine. I know several folks who have been obliged to keep one over their kimber, Springfield...(enter your brand here.) They are great guns... the early ones had an issue with the ambi safety working its way loose but that problem was quickly remedied by Taurus.

This subject has been beat to death on several forums. I'm not getting on you for asking the question though. It's what I would have done.

I have read posts hammering them for being junk and read glowing reports about them. I only have experience with two of them and both, purchased about a year apart, have been excellent pistols. Good triggers, accurate, and shoot anything, factory or reloads. I wish they came with adjustable sights but that is the only thing I would change about them.

I'm wearing one right now and I love it. My buddy has another well-known brand of 1911 that cost twice as much. While the finish is nicer on his gun, they both hold about the same level of accuracy. And the trigger is decidedly better on the Taurus.

I use mine for IDPA and range ,have over 5000 rnds throught it no issues.
I took 2nd in my division last Sunday with it.
My personal carry is a Colt but Id carry the PT if I had to.

I have one, I got it used and I didn't purchase it (traded for it) but I have been very impressed with it. The only complaint I have is that on the black version (not sure what the finish is) the slide's finish is cheap. As a matter of fact, I've had mine reblued and now it looks great.

But it runs flawlessly, even with cheap ammo, and is more accurate than I am.

So.... how do you like your Taurus 1911? You do have one, right? You did respond to this thread and all. I just thought maybe you might want to share something relevant.

Oh, and "do a search" on why someone might want some fresh perspective or current updates concerning long-term usage of this firearm.

I'm certainly interested in this firearm. It would be nice if one could get an inexpensive 1911 that works.

Mr. Whimsy if you're on a tight budget try looking into the Armscor 1911's they as a rule run just fine out of the box but if they have any problems Armscor has a reputation of going above and beyond their duty to make sure all problems are taken care of in a quick and professional manner .

Now as to the Taurs 1911's I have read so many a rave review on them I wont hessitate to buy one just as soon as they bring out a 4 1/4 barreled "Commander" clone in stainless steel .

All I can say is, mine has been 100% flawless so far. Not one single jam and VERY accurate.

I've shot about 600-700 rounds of 5 different brands of 230gr FMJ and 2 brands of JHP using 4 or 5 different brands of magazines and the gun just keeps going.

Only thing I have done to it, is replace the black plastic factory grips with some RAASCO Cocobolo Dymonwood ones.
