I have found a Taurus PT911 (15 rnd) NIB for $450.

Very clean.

Action very smooth.

Feels every bit as good as a BHP.

I've looked back over the threads that discuss the PT911, and the overall impression seems favorable.

I'm soliciting feedback from anyone who owns one, has owned one, or has shot one.

There seem to be some very similar models from Taurus, so I'd be happy to hear how its closest relatives do, too.

Thanx, guys.

Carry Gun

By the way, I'm also looking at this as a possible carry gun.

Is there anyone here who's carrying that model, or one the same size and shape, who can give me some pointers?

Thanx.

Have you gone over to www.taurusarmed.net and asked that question over there? Do a search of the archives on this model or browse the recent threads in the Taurus Semi-auto board. Members here are also members there. There is also a FAQ board that might have things that might be useful. I do own Taurus products as well as others. Own a PT111 Mil/pro ,PT22, and 4 Taurus revolvers. The PT1911 fan club is big over at the other forum. There is also a 911 fan club as well.

Look into also...

the STI TROJON 1911.
It's about the same price,and i like it better.:D

After Much Contemplation

I have found a local dealer who orders from RSR (in TX), and asked if the PT911 was available.

Imagine my surprise when he told me
  1. RSR has a half dozen of them in stock
  2. they are all NEW with two fifteen-round mags
  3. he can have one for me in two days
  4. the out-the-door price will be lower than most places' before-tax-and-Brady price
You will therefore probably not be altogether amazed when I tell you that I'll be picking mine up this week, possibly tomorrow.

Mine, all mine.

Ha!

The rest of you: go get your own.

ArfinGreebly. Let us know how things turn out. There is the www.taurusarmed.net if you need another source or place to banter about the Taurus 911.

While the PT1911,24/7 OSS, and the PT145 get most of the press the 911 soldiers on.

You did the right thing by contacting the distributor. I've had gunshops tell me about problems getting a particular model. After calling the middle man directly the whole picture changes toward a more positive outcome.

And Here She Is!

Laydeez an' gennlemen . . .

Introducing, for the first time on this stage, in her inaugural tour . . .

. . . my little friend!

The Taurus PT911: metal frame, 9mm, 2x 15 rd mag, DA/SA trigger (self-resetting), exposed low-profile hammer, 3-dot sights (oversize front dot), ambidextrous frame-mounted safety with decocker, Beretta-style takedown latch, smooth edges (no snag).

(Sorry about the camera & lighting.)

Hey Arfin, how do you like it so far?

(oops--should have read the beginning of the thread first)

DA/SA trigger (self-resetting)

Arfin, what do you mean when you say a "self resetting" trigger?

Oh, & I have a PT940. Good gun, don't know why it isn't more popular. I may sell mine, but only to fund another purchase & I'm dragging my heels because I don't want to get rid of it. (I have too many calibers to stock!! :banghead: )

Range Day

Finally got to the range yesterday (Sunday, Aug 26th).

Took my XD40, Ruger MkII, wife's PT111 Millenium Pro, and my PT911.

After warming up with the XD and MkII, I ran several magazines through the PT911. Very nice.

I managed to get my first ever hammer bite on mag #1. Corrected my grip and carried on.

I have photos of the targets, and I'll post those tomorrow.

Interesting note: I tend to shoot low with it, but I also shoot low with the XD. I believe I'm "pushing" the shot a little, forcing the muzzle down just a fraction.

On my last two mags, I rapid fired the first, reloaded, switched to a milk jug off to the left, fired two rounds (both hits), then fired the rest of that mag at the target.

My grouping was better and higher in rapid fire.

I didn't say "grouping was good" just better.

It's not the pistol.

I can keep all ten rounds from the MkII in a 3-inch circle at 12 yards all day long.

Move up a calibre, and the "group" becomes a pattern.

I'm getting better.

And, yes, I'll be getting training.

Watch this space for targets tomorrow.

Self-Resetting

Arfin, what do you mean when you say a "self resetting" trigger?
No slide motion is required to reset the trigger.

Compare the Kel-tec PF9. It's a DAO pistol, but once you've pulled the trigger, if the slide does not move (i.e. misfire) pulling the trigger again does nothing. If you pull the slide back about 1/8 to 1/4 inch, the trigger resets.

The PT911 (and the PT111 for that matter) resets the trigger regardless of slide motion, allowing you a second strike on a hard primer.

The default mode for the PT911 is single action (for all shots after the first), and the first shot can be fired either single-action (carry cocked & locked) or double-action (carry round in chamber, decocked).

The safety is also the decocker.

Safety is frame-mounted.

nice looking pistol AG . . . . .

didn't they used to make those in .38 Super also? Wonder if they still do?

I have a PT911.
I like mine alot.
Shoots all most as good as the BHP.
Mine is the 10 round version.

It's a keeper in my book.

In .38 Super?

. . . used to make those in .38 Super . . .
Yup.

That one's the PT938. I've actually seen one. It was either stainless or chromed.

A little big for what I wanted.

So far, I'm likin' mine.

Far as I know, RSR (in TX) still has a number in stock.

Wow, thats a pretty interesting pistol feature wise, i've never heard of it before. Please keep up updated on its function and don't forget to show us those targets:)

Target Pic

Here's the final target of the day.

Range: 10 yards from front edge of bench.
Ammo: Magtech target ball.
Style: two-handed, offhand, standing.

Two mags of ten rounds each. Full first mag rapid-fired at target.

Reload.

First two rounds of next mag fired into a jug out of frame on left, remainder of mag rapid-fired at target.

Two rounds are off the paper, low. The other sixteen rounds all show on the paper. Interestingly, I did better in rapid fire than slow fire. Not enough time to pre-think the shots.

Very smooth. Easy on the hands (after I corrected my grip). Nice fat front sight dot.
