Taurus pt92: Is it worth it?

I'm considering the Taurus pt92 (not sure blued or ss).
Any thoughts, suggestions, or complaints?
 
I have heard a lot of good things about the PT-92. Some say it was some of Taurus best. Others say other things....Because it is a Taurus.

I have no personal experience with the PT-92 but I do own a new PT-145 Pro and I can say it so far is pretty good minus the fact of 5 FTF with 3 different mags.

As far as the PT-92 goes, I never really heard any issues. You might wanna try the Taurus Armed.Net site and see what they have to say.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I've read mixed reviews about the pt92 and about Taurus all together. It really feels like a good quality gun though. And the price is good.
 
Taurus does have competitive pricing but a lot of people will tell you they lack in Customer Service and in Quality of their firearms.

It has become a hit & miss to what I understand. Of course, You have the Lifetime Warranty in case of anything.

If it's a good deal and you feel good about it, Buy it. Research it some more before you make the leap and find out what is good and bad.

Then make sure you are willing to deal with it. If its gonna be a CCW then I really reccomend that you make sure it work's like it should. If it's gonna be a plinker / range gun, I wouldn't worry about it to much and iron out the mistakes when you can.

I've got the adjustable sight version, the PT99. Very accurate, very reliable, and very large. It helps to have big hands. For open carry it's great, for concealment, not so much.
 
Ditto JTQ, the PT-92/99 family is pretty much universally recognized as Taurus' best. I haven't had one, but if I'd seen one in person for a good price I would have snapped one up.

Probably a bad carry gun, seeing as it is a Beretta 92 for all intents and purposes.
 
I have a PT92C and a PT99. I've never had an issue with either one of them. Both of them are accurate and reliable.
 
My PT99 (same gun, adjustable sights) is the only gun I own that has never-not even once failed or jammed in any way. I have run just about every kind of ammo out there, factory and handloads and it just runs. Mine is also surprisingly accurate. They are rather big and bulky by todays standards, but that seems to make them easy to shoot (but a bit tough to concealed carry).

Have had several....all great!

Still have several.....all great!

Recently .... PT 92AF Stainless Hi Cap 17 round mags!

Are the adjustable sights on the 99 necessary?
Or are the fixed on the 92 sufficient?

Ditto. Although, 20 years ago I paid $250 for my PT99AF; it is still a fantastic shooter, and I do not recall a single malfunction. That said, the new ones are nearly as pricey as the M9. I would still prefer the Beretta if price were similar, as in within $100 due to the likely greater future value. I do like the frame mounted safety on the Taurus though.
 
I also like the Berettas, however I prefer the safety on the frame where it belongs!

And My Taurus variants have always run as well as my Berettas!

I prefer the PT92's frame mounted hammer drop safety to the Beretta's 92's slide mounted hammer drop safety.

In addition the PT92 can be carried cocked and locked.
 
The sights is a personal thing. I prefer adjustable in case well...They need to be adjusted. You never know when it is your gun shooting off center instead of you.
 
Bringing in the Beretta, would that be the better route to take since it's not much more expensive? Is the quality that much better for the added price? From what I've read the finish is better on the Beretta right?

I don't know. The PT-92 is supposed to be one of Taurus's best pistols. However, their customer service and quality control really spook me.

I do like the frame mounted safety better, though.

I'd pass unless I got a really good deal.
 
My Taurus PT92 was an excellent weapon, the pistol ate everything and was very solid. Its was also damn accurate. (Why did I sell it? :banghead: )
Here it is in matte stainless sporting a Beretta 92 black barrel.

I just bought a PT92 AFS. I love it. The aluminum frame definitely keeps it light weight. I did a fair amount of research before pulling the trigger and found it to be everything that I read an more. As others have said, the PT92 is definitely one of Taurus' best firearms. From what I've read, the PT1911 is second (also considering this for a cheap range duty 1911).

A couple of notes. The combat sights on the PT92 AF/AFS are calibrated for 124/125gr projectiles. The more common cheap commercial round with 115gr projectiles WILL shoot low. WWB 115gr FMJs it shot an 1/2 to 1 inch low. I currenty load 125gr LTCN and my PoA is exactly my PoI. Recoil is great and double taps are more than acceptable.

I would not hesitate to get another. Really wanted a "Combat" Matte Stainless, but got a good deal on the Stainless (AFS).
