Taurus PT92 versus 99 sight accuracy question

My PT101 has snapped the pin securing the rear adjustable sight twice... if I were to get another one I'd get the fixed sight version. Not that anyone's reading this 4-year-old thread. :D

Taurus PT 92 AF sighting

My daughter bought a Taurus PT92 AF(fixed sights). She kept complaining that she couldn't hit anything with it. Even at 25-30 feet! She hits a 7" square almost every time with he LCP. So, ????. I went out to the range with her. I soon realized that at 20-25 feet the pistol was hitting about almost a foot left, and about 14" low. After fooling around for a box of shells or so, I realized that if I looked through the 1/4 inch gap between the barrel and the front slide ring, I could see the orange center of the target. Sort of alining the front slide ring with the rear sight, seeing the orange of the target through the peep hole between the barrel and slide ring I could get within a couple inches of the center of the target at at 20-25 feet. That particular pistol is pretty much useless for more than point blank range. She sent it back. If Taurus won't repair or replace, the only option I can think of it to file the front completely off and file a small notch into the back of the front slide ring and put a drop of paint into the notch. If that painted notch were held at about the very top of the rear sight, the gun would hit close to center at 30 feet. So what would one do at 20-25 YARDS?

i LOOKED AT ANOTHER pPT 92 IN THE STORE YESTERDAY, AND IT DOES NOT HAVE A 1/4 INCH GAP BETWEEN THE BARREL AND THE FRONT OF THE SLIDE RAIL.

I suspect that Taurus will be sending her a new pistol. Even adjustible sights wouldn't fix that problem.

Welcome to THR, Gramps. FYI it's considered bad form to drag up 5-year-old, unrelated-to-your-issue threads, and to cross-post or multi-post in multiple locations.

Sorry to hear of your issues; I'm sure Taurus will take care of you.

Taurus, Ruger, and S&W have all been great for me.
I have a PT99 and a complete PT92 slide assembly.
I can switch them out for range or carry duty.
Lately, I carry my Ruger SR9 more, because it's slimmer and lighter.
Plus, it holds 17 rounds from the factory, my PT is a 15 shot. (1997 model)

I will cut Grampa some slack.

He probably did a search for accuracy issues related to the PT series and didn't notice the date of the thread.

So, why IS it bad form to zombify a thread? I've never understood that.

I'm on #4 for taurus and have had 2 "real deal" berettas. The fixed sight guns (all 4, both brands 2 for 2) hit paper at 10 yards...somewhere on that paper. The pt99s I have had (2) had the same group sizes but you could adjust the POI to POA. My current 99 isn't as good as my first, but it's still a 2 inch gun at 10 yards very easily and when I'm having a good day and I'm not shaky I can do 1" at 10 yards and hold it there all day. For the difference in price I can say with certainty that you should get the 99. I once dumped the last of my 22s into a pond while turtling...finished the day sitting on the rollback of a jeep with the 99 batting .500 on turtles from 5 to 35 yards. THAT particular gun would flat out shoot....and I traded it for a nice Honda rebel or else I would still have it.
