Taurus TCP or Ruger LCP

Deepsouth, what was it about the LCP that gave you the impression that it was poorly built.
Most owner reviews I have read are pretty positive about it.

Machining marks everywhere, slide frame fit, the thin plastic trigger feels like it's going to break every time it's pulled, loose/wobbly mags, it rattles worse than any 1911 I've every held, plastic pins holding in critical parts. If this gun had come out in the late seventies or early eighties, when quality guns were the norm, it would have been a joke, and most people probably would have been scared to shoot it. By today's standards it's not that bad.

Sure sounds different than my LCP, its finish is very good, the slide to frame fit is good with very little play and the trigger pull while long it is smooth with a very predictable break and no side play or flex.
As for all those well built guns of the past, you're kidding yourself. There were good ones as well as some real stinkers that came from big companies. I had a pretty lousy 1911 from Colt in the early '60s that was no example of great workmanship.

I have to say that one of the reasons I bought the LCP was because it felt better built than the competitors of similar/equal size. Yes, I know there are some really, really, really well built .380's out there...that weigh a ton. All I want in my .380 is a reliable gun that disappears until I need it.

The LCP, in my opinion, fits the role perfectly. The lines are clean and smooth, the action long but predictable, everything locks up reasonably tight, and to my my hands the LCP feels like a "real" gun. Cost effective, but certainly not "cheap".

I'll scuff it up, but I doubt I'll wear it out in my lifetime. It was never made to be a daily shooter. Just a couple mags per range trip to keep familiar with it and make sure I can hit what I'm aiming at.

How large is your trigger finger? I never thought that I had fat fingers but my hands are large. I still can't hold a basketball with one hand very easily. My forefinger will not easily go into the trigger guard easily in the Ruger or its cousin the Keltec. I have to push it in. The TCP has a much larger trigger guard which allows easier trigger finger insertion. Not as large as the MicroEagle, though. Been carrying the Taurus for over a year now in coastal Carolina and in the Florida Keys--and no rust problems either. I don't think that a blued gun would hold up as well.

WOW- it only took 3 posts for the Taurus bashing to begin. I have held both and fired neither. Taurus gets my vote for micro-ergonomics. I have a couple of Taurus products and no problems whatsoever. I would definitely try before I buy, though. Just wish the TCP looked less angular.

I own both guns, and the TCP is more accurate in my hands while the LCP feels better in my pocket. Considering the short range expectations of these pocket guns, my nod goes to the LCP for concealability. But they're both keepers in my opinion.

Over the years many Taurus firearms have passed through my hands as a result of trades, etc. I am no fan. However, I so have an old 3" .44sp Taurus revolver that I will never let go of and a Taurus .38super auto that I feel the same about. Add to that my Taurus 738 which I was given for Christmas a couple of years ago. This gun how has over 500 rounds of CarBon .380 HPs thru it with no failures of any kind. I like the trigger, the slide lock and the weight features. I've tried Kahrs, Rugers, Rohrbaughs, NAAs, Seecamps, virtually all of the tiny carry guns. This cheap little Taurus goes with me everywhere.

just tried both, so i can't say much for long term performance, but there was not too much difference IMO. trigger was better on the TCP though. I spent the extra dime and got the S&W 380 and haven't looked back. A tad larger than the LCP and TCP but I was able to grip it better. (and it comes with a shiny laser  )

A buddy of mine recently bought a Taurus TCP for conceal carry. He didn't want a larger gun to carry. He chose the Taurus instead of the LCP for two reasons, 1) the last round slide lock back feature. 2) lower cost AND it came with two mags for that lower price.

He absolutely loves it and shoots it at the range often. He probably has around 500 rounds through it by now. It is amazingly accurate but it bites my trigger finger every time I shoot it. I can only shoot about 15 rounds and my finger is sore. He doesn't have that problem. I shot the Kel-Tec P3AT and prefered the Taurus over the Kel-Tec because the trigger pull on the Kel-Tec was soooo long I was dipping the barrel by the time it fired. My friends Taurus had fail to feed (sorry if I type instead of abbreviating like a pro) after the second box of ammo. He bought some semi-chrome polish and used a polishing attachment on his Dremel and polished the feed ramp and as much of the chamber entrance as he could get to and the problem went away. When it "jammed" all you had to do was push on the back of the slide and it would feed.

The LCP has lots of fans, as does the Bodyguard, or at least until you have to clean the Bodyguard. I haven't shot the LCP. I'll probably be going down this road in the spring. That's all I can offer.

My DSW has a Keltec P38T that she likes awful well. She also has a couple other Keltecs, a P11 and a PF9, both 9 mm's.

My regular pocket gun is a Ruger LCR, .38 special. But I also have one in .357 magnum, I carry occasionally in a strong side belt holster. Same one that fits my .357, Ruger SP101 that is my EDC.

I'm getting a Keltec P38T, in .380, too. Just to drop in my pocket, sometimes. They are about $65 cheaper than a Ruger LCP, .380, at my "lgs". The KT is lighter to carry. And the KT trigger is just as good as the LCP trigger. Picking it up Wednesday.
