I have had two people at two separate Wal-Marts tell me that they have more ammo in the back but cannot sell it because they do not have any tax stamps to put on it. One of them told me they weren't allowed to buy anymore right now due to corporate (or at least district) managemement.

Does anyone know if this is true? Any Wal-Mart employees out there that can shed any light?

Are you in TN? I just did a really quick google search, and came up with something specific to TN.

Tennessee has a separate tax on ammo and each box has to have a tax stamp on it. I don't think there's a conspiracy to withhold stamps considering how gun friendly Tennessee is. I think it's just a situation where the sudden demand for ammo exceeded the number of stamps available. If everyone just bought their normal quantities, there probably wouldn't be a problem. When you get this mass hysteria buying frenzy, you have these shortages. We saw the same thing after Obama was elected in 2008. It's much ado about nothing in my opinion. I've not heard anybody reliable say that they are getting ready to ban ammo.

Kinda funny. I see 10 round packs of 7.62x54R with one tax stamp, and spam cans of 7.62x54R (what, 440 rounds, 44 ten round packs percan?) with one tax stamp. The tax is Unit of Sale.

The ten cents per stamp goes to help finance the Wildlife Resources Agency. I guess they print as many stamps as they think they need based on last years sales; well, the anti-gun propaganda has spurred panick buying this year.

One of them told me they weren't allowed to buy anymore right now due to corporate (or at least district) managemement.

I suspect they won't order more ammo until they have tax stamps to allow sale of their backroom stock; sounds like there is no shelf space for newly ordered ammo.

I have seen gun control static create panick buying of ammo before; it usually clears up in weeks or occasionally months. Due to participation in vintage and modern military matches, I have learned to stockpile at minimum for a full season a full year before the season starts.
