Ted Nugent needs some help...

The thing that bugs me in all this is its just business to these guys - advertising dollars and a job.

Hell, they're the Dixie Chicks of the gun industry - impressed with their own importance, arrogant and figuring they are in so lofty a place that they can say and do anything they please.

They can't. Someone write it down.

Big difference between these "celebrities" and the majority of us who are in this because we know its the right thing for oursleves and humanity as a whole in our hearts.

Not because its profitable. Only "businesspeople" and politicians change their viewpoints that fast. Same degree of integrity.

BTW, if Nugent really wanted to hear how people feel - why filter the responses through his email box? Why can't they be sent direct?

Sigh... Bubba can't read....

Campers, the way I see it, we're gonna have Zumbo in the capitol in Washington, and he's going to be testifying. Heck, he may get asked to come in as a hostile, but you _know_ that right now Brady wants him there. So...

It's our choice now on whose side he'll be testifying for.

I'd _really_ like for it to be our side. Then she can't use him. Read that again. It's okay to move your lips while you do it. If he's WITH us, he cannot be used to HURT us.

I don't hunt ... never really been all that interested in hunting so when this whole mess started, the first thought that went through my head was "who the hell is this Zumbo guy?"

After some research I find that Zumbo is (or at least was) a real big deal in the hunting media with a ton of followers (much like we in the RKBA movement look up to people like Col. Jeff Cooper).

Anyway, I have to commend Ted Nugent for trying to go out and save the image of one of his heroes. Its a noble goal. I also am willing to allow Zumbo "back in the fold" if he does live up to his promise to be "The Brady's Worst Nightmare". If he pulls it off good for him.

HOWEVER, I'm not going to just accept him at his word ... I'll give him a chance to back up his words with action, but the words alone are meaningless.

Zumbo's sin as far as I'm concerned was NOT the "ARs have no place in hunting" or "I'll go so far as to call them terrorist rifles" bit. No his sin (and an almost unforgivable one at that) was to call for government to BAN THEM!

Sorry, but that's going to take a lot more than a few staged photos with a pink AR and .50cal and a check and a promise to fight HR1022 for me to consider forgiving he man and Ted should realize how deeply wounded many of us gun owners are by his betrayal.

Now as for Teddy ... I think he's gone off and done exactly to those that don't trust Zumbo what Zumbo did to the RKBA movement.

I'm sorry Ted, calling those that don't trust Zumbo or aren't yet willing to forgive him "cannibals" and "anti gunners" is nowhere NEAR the high road and really taints your noble attempt to rehab Zumbo.

Actually, Zundster, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the "we want heads on pikes" folks aren't folks who got onto this system from Democratic Underground, or similar environs.

They ARE on this forum - every so often they get outted... and they LOVE to see us fragment, and they will be eager to see us destroy our own. So, hey, maybe perceptive Ted's kinda right there, and we've got antis calling for his head, because they know it'll hurt us overall.

I think we can do far more good for our cause by having him within the circle of wagons...

Damn, I'm running out of metaphors...

We've got bigger fish to fry right now, with bills like HR 1022 in Congress, than holding a grudge against one man who didn't think before he blogged.
Exactly. Time to stay focused.

Zumbo, Nugent, like them or leave them, it doesn't matter. But if we don't stay focused on what's important, the Brady bunch will win the war. No one has to share a foxhole with these guys, but if they're on our side of the line, don't waste any ammo on them either.

Nugent's hypocrisy

After posting this:

"anyone who so foolishly is ignoring the clear & obvious apology & upgrade here, plz dont bother posting. go to some hippie turd chewing bubba drunkass website & grovel there plz. here we demand upgrade. whattaconcept. Jeff, Ward, Mike, zap all *******s the hell out of my campfire plz. no punks allowed.”

and the following being on the DPMS home page:

"Latest News
A recent comment by Jim Zumbo, a writer for Outdoor Life Magazine, indicating his dislike of AR-15 Rifles for hunting purposes is a disgrace to American Gun Owners! His apology is not accepted by this company. We will begin to disconnect from Zumbo's sponsors immediately!"

I'm curious as to why rather than crying for pro-Nugent letters to DPMS, Nugent isn't the one one dumping DPMS. Since DPMS is obviously "so foolishly is ignoring the clear & obvious apology & upgrade here" shouldn't [a principled] Nugent be rejecting their "hippie turd chewing bubba drunkass" tainted sponsorship dollars?

Good on ya DPMS!

Nuge has lost all respect I had for him. He should have kept his big mouth out of it. Calling me a lunitic fridge? :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Interesting quote I stumbled across (being used in a sig line on another forum)

Stupid people should be encouraged to say stupid things. It makes it easier to keep track of who the stupid people are.

-Ted Nugent

Zumbo was ignorant.

Smart people can be taught.

Otherwise, why bother sending your kids to school? They'd be born knowing everything (well, golly be - some people already are like that!).

Nope. You're ignorant until you are educated. You are stupid if that education doesn't take hold.

IMHO, the education has taken hold, and it's time for him to spread it.

He can't do that from the outside looking in.

Unless I see him at the head of a Million Mom march, I will
reserve feelings. I have seen what happened when members
in the NRA took a split. We need every gun bearing citizen to
take heed of what can happen if HR 1022 could occur. Now is
not the time to not come to some kind of unity by nit picking!

I've so far remained fairly quiet about this Zumbo thing, but I think I'll stick my head up now.

I'm an Australian gun owner, that probably means I know, just a little bit more, and from real experience of the tactics used by anti-gunners and their mates in Government. I've seen(and been a victim of) two buy-backs, semi-auto longarms and pump shotguns, then in 2002 for pistols over .38 calibre, or with short barrels.

Divide and conquer is their standing operating procedure, as long ago as 1989 anti-gunners in this country were saying we're to big to be taken on en-masse, the only way to extend control is ti "chip away at the edges".

In 1996, the Government knew that the Clay Target and Pistol Associations had big money and could fund legal challenges to their laws. The Australian Clay Target Association were therefore "allowed" to keep their semi-auto shotguns and the pistol shooters weren't touched.

IN 2002, when the Howard Government went after pistol shooters, they knew many other groups wouldn't support them because they had turned their backs on us in 1996. They stood alone and got carved up.

Zumbo attempted to throw the owners of black guns out of the lifeboat, by his statements In doing so he carelessly and contemptous betrayed the trust of those who believed in him. He played straight into the arms of the anti's, they can now rightfully say no-one needs black guns for sporting purposes, why? Because Jim Zumbo said so.

If Ted Nugent or anyone else wants to play pallsies with Zumbo, go right ahead, don't expect me to like or support it.

I think it was one of your "old dead white guys" who said "We must hang together, or most assuedly we will hang alone". Zumbo has demonstrated that when the going gets tough, he's prepared to dump other owners of guns he's not interested in. This time it was black guns, next time it will who?

What a lot of people are missing is that if we are using Zumbo as a 2nd amendment spokesperson, as a convert, the other side cannot use him. That's a BIG thing... And it could also aid in the conversion of a lot of "sportsmen" from just being hunters into politically active "sports shooters."

A washed up 67 year old "writer" is a BIG thing?

I have NO IDEA what the Nuge is trying to say here. Honest to God, the man isn't right in the head, though his intentions are good.

As for Zumbo: until the man flat out starts supporting the full line of 2nd Amendment guaranteed freedoms - not just hunting and 'sporting' with firearms - he's blackballed by me. An apology to try and avoid the consequences of your actions is one thing, but actually changing is another - just like a kid who runs up to his older brother, punches him, and then runs away screaming "I'm sorry!" probably isn't too honest in his apology.

I'd personally say let him back "into the fold", but one more screw up and he's gone for good, expelled with prejudice. It would be greatly preferable to stop the hemoraging between different types of gun owners, as it's a horribly silly thing when you think about it: the ruling class hatesall firearms if they're owned by common people. We need to consolidate and draw upon our common ground, not dilluding ourselves in fear that we may not be the ones that are being targetted. Because whether you're a hunter, sport shooter, or any other firearm owner 'type', you're still a firearm owner and thus a valid target to attack.

Here's what I feel about it. I may not like to own a AR-15, but I will defend your right to have one if you choose!;) Zumbo should have thought a while before he spoke, plain and simple!:scrutiny: Kinda like S&W a few years back, buckling under pressure! Ruger and a lot of others didn't buckle! If you're going to buckle I have no trust in you. Can't stand fair-weather friends:cuss:

I wasn't going to post, but jcart convinced me to. He is absolutely right. Anybody who supports Mr. Nugent also supports ALL of the anti-gun laws to come out in the last how-many-years?

The fact that Nugent is calling anybody that disagrees with his support of Dumbo, the "lunatic fringe" disturbs the crap out of me. It reeks of compromise. But that is what the NRA, whom Nugent is a bigwig in, is all about. They have been compromising our rights away since when? When C. Heston said, "from my cold dead hands.", he was talking about a friggin musket! He said no one needs an AK47.

Hunters and RKBA folks are mostly on two different lines. One side wants to preserve our rights to "sportingly" kill animals- even though those rights are not even evident in our Constitution, and the other side has a legitimate right to support. There shouldn't even be debate about this. It is "black and white". Just like having sex with fourteen and fifteen year olds- which good 'ol Ted is ok with too-is black and white.

If you cut Dumbo slack, others will know they can stab us in the back, and then say 'Sorry' and continue on.

The only way to handle TREASON is abruptly and without mercy.

I believe Zumbo should be put into quiet limbo awhile while he contemplates his mistakes away from the media. After a suitable length of time, he should be allowed back on a test basis to see if he has any credibility left, and if so, let him re-build his reputation within the current political conditions with regards to the 2A. Getting his butt out in the field with a Barrett or DPMS and bringing something back for the freezer would go a long ways....
