Ted Nugent needs some help...

There is really no need to push this matter any further. Zumbo got pwned, our point was made, move on.

A recent comment by Jim Zumbo, a writer for Outdoor Life Magazine, indicating his dislike of AR-15 Rifles for hunting purposes is a disgrace to American Gun Owners! His apology is not accepted by this company. We will begin to disconnect from Zumbo's sponsors immediately!

Did not know anything about Zumbo... didn't know who this guy was / is before this whole "blog" thing... don't really care.
...don't hunt.
I DID KNOW about Nugget... I went to Viet Nam, he chose not to.
... conscious or coward?
well...
All I can say here is... Semper Fi... MAC! YOU CHOOSE to be with Zumbo... sort it out on your own... and yeah... we all do have a RIGHT to speak out... "bubba"... there are MANY "gun-boards" where someone can do so freely.

Dear people:

It's Sunday morning, I have a house full of kids, and they're watching something that Blows Up Real Good in The Bunker. I have four 15" subwoofers down there, so I KNOW that it blows up Real Good.

I don't give a rat's ass if you like him. I don't give a rat's ass if you agree with anything in his apologies.

What I _do_ care about is how we can use him to undo that blog entry, and maybe, just maybe, and it wouldn't be that hard if gun nuts weren't a bunch of hard-assed unforgiving wannabe "only on Sunday morning" Christians.

If we work this right, it could double NRA membership. It could get a LOT of folks who just drag out the boomstick once a year for Bambi to sit up, take notice, and VOTE. And we gotta start on the spin NOW. Not six months from now when you've decided that he's gone to enough matches and wrote enough unpublished (because every rag that would hire, even for $1/article, him gets innudated with hate mail) articles that you MIGHT consider letting him live... In 4-5 years.

In two years, we are probably gonna have a Democrat in the white house. Congrats. We need all the positive spin we can get.

But no....

Okay. There's screaming. Gotta go.

But no....

Bogie,

I believe you are well intentioned here, but maybe need to look outside of THR for what's going on with this thing.

SWAT magazine for example has made arrangements with a defensive carbine trainer to put Zumbo in a class and have him write an article on his experience. (thread over on TFL if you are interested)

That's a very positive idea, taking a well known writer, and a very good one I might add, and getting his experience of using these rifles in something besides hunting. That's working together. Having him deer hunt with Ted really doesn't do much good.

The offer is up on Nuge's website right now.

There is plenty of reaching out in both directions, and it will work itself out.

Let's see Zumbos' response to offers like this and see where it leads. I am sure there will be others.

In the meantime I'd personally like to see no more threads at all on either Zumbo or Nugent for a few months.
There is plenty of pro 2A work and discussions we can have without either of those folks involved.

I gotta say that the couple of threads going on here "demanding" some kind of instant coming together are doing more harm than good.
Trying to force people into accepting an apology or saying that lack of instant action makes them "not team players" won't work.

It's quiet time now on this. Noise can be made later if needed.

Let me relate a story I heard our preacher give once.

Every time the little boy did a bad deed or lied, his mother made him drive a nail into a wood post in the back yard. After a few years, there were quite a few nails in it. The boy asked forgivness. His mother told him that God and people can forgive and all of the nails are removed.

BUT....look at all of those nail holes.
Yes, Zumbo can be forgiven but, look at the damage done!

We need to "move on" and "organize."

Without question, we need to fight the enemy, not each other...let's move on...with or with out zumbo and nugent

The Damage is done!

I personally don't HATE Zumbo but, I will never trust his motives. Would you make a wordy apology to regain what he lost???
His original statement wasn't ask for or prompted. That would make me believe it was from the heart.
Any statements made since I would have to wonder if it was just a ploy to get back in good standing with his sponsors.
He did incredible damage to ALL gun owners. After the damage is done, it can't be UNDONE.
Forgive the man but don't forgive what he did to us and perhaps future generations. If you are a gun owner, you had better be in a panic cause it is gonna get REALLY bad REALLY fast.

I wish the best for Zumbo but I would rather see him selling cars.

I don't think he'll ever get all his sponsorship back, no matter what he does.

But, I believe accepting him back into the fold after being educated by the Nuge would send a HUGE message to the non-pro 2A folks.

We gotta give the Nuge a chance. If we don't, I have a bad feeling that we're all gonna lose.

I seriously don't like Nugent's chest beating, his quick rush to defend then "educate" Zumbo (after that defense failed miserably), nor am I singing his praises for the juvenile name calling, the "if you disagree with me you're a cannibal" rhetoric.

Could we possibly have a worse spokesman for our cause? Seriously, outside of the hunting and shooting community, Ted Nugent carries as much clout as Carrot Top...and is lampooned about as bad.

Ugh. We need a spokesman for our cause, but Ted is not the best.

Anyone that speaks for our cause will help. Whoever thinks that this fight isn't serious has their head in the wrong place. This fight for our Second Amendment rights is the fight of our lives. Ted Nugent and Jim Zumbo will help educate the people who are ignorant to the real agenda of the gun grabbing legislators coming into power in our country. I challenge anyone who doesn't want these guy's help to step up to the plate and do a better job. You are either on the team or not, get a clue as to the consequences.

You guys say what you want, but don't blame me if Zumbo ends up going psychotic with an AK or something.

I mean, all kidding aside, there's not a lot left you can say or do to the man. If that was me, I'd be starting to get a little PO'd right about now. After the smoke clears, and there's nothing left, and I mean nothing, what do you think he is going to think of all this?

For christ sakes people, the guy apologized. He tried to take steps to appease you. You're not having any of it. He's being totally villified. He got fired from his job. Lost all of his sponsorships. And now guys like Ted Nugent, who are trying to be reasonable about the mess that we made by blowing their statements (which, according to the first amendment, he has a right to make) completely out of proportion, are being publicly crucified for doing nothing wrong. They are entitled to their opinions, people. They didn't commit a crime. They shouldn't be hanged like common criminals for making statements covered under free speech, especially since they threatened no one. They are innocent.

When is it going to stop? You can't make peace with the man? Fine. But be forewarned. What comes around goes around. You might want to think about that the next time you try to challenge the legality of current regs in court.

It's not me stepping over the line this time. And that is rare indeed. But you'd better put your thinking caps on, before some of these people begin to take you too seriously. There are places on this earth where people can be trashed for making statements you don't agree with. America isn't one of them. I will not be your political prisoner. Neither will Zumbo or Ted.

You should stop now.

Huh?!? I might want to think about what, exactly, the next time I try to challenge the legality of current regs in court? Think about what Zumbo said? I do not understand this sentence at all.

You should stop now.

We should stop what, exactly? Criticizing someone who tries to divide those who support RKBA? Choosing not to read his writings?

You are the ones dividing support for the rkba.

What is everyone talking about? I never knew this guy Zumbo from Adam until last week. I never watched his show, I never read his writings. Now, if I continue to live my life exactly the way I was I am "dividing support for RKBA"?

All I know about this Zumbo character is that he made some disparaging remarks about military rifles, and that he was roundly criticized for doing so. I support the fact he was criticized, as if we did not criticize him his statements would have been used by the Brady bunch. I also find it hard to believe that someone the least bit involved in the gun world would have been oblivious to the repercussions for what he said.

Now, can I go back to living my life the way I did last week without being labeled a "divider", or do I have to purchase a Zumbo approved rifle or something?

Sheesh.

Time to move on and as for Nugent if you ever watched his show on a regular bases you know he comes off as a stereotypical trigger happy city boy although he does practice fair chase and clean kills but some of his antics like shooting at ringtails in a deerblind does more to give us hunters a bad name than any of these so called extremist and their so called assualt rifles will ever give. I think Ted is just trying to kiss up to the Elmer Fudds just to sell more albums BTW when was the last time anybody heard any current Ted Nugent music on the radio it seems to me if hear any Nuge it's mostly the classics.

Folks, there are folks that appeal to various subgroups within the shooting community. They all have a place as long as they all bring their fans to the cause of supporting the 2A. Zumbo can bring the hunters that read his work and followed his hunts and might, just might, listen to him on the broader gun rights threat. Nugent can bring his fans. R. Lee can bring his. Selleck can appeal to the others. It doesn't matter if they speak to a subset of shooters as long as they all share a common cause against the Antis. Together we're all better off than in our little tribes throwing grass and howling at each other.

Bogie, your heart's in the right place...

And Gawd bless ya for it.

But Zumbo and Nugent are both liabilities (yes, I said Nugent's a liability, he scares the bejeezus out of anti-gunners and is really only useful to those already on this side of the fence), and if there's to be any fight against the anti-gunners, I'd rather not have them as my spokespersons. Keep 'em gainfully occupied, yes, but only by having Zumbo apologizing to Nugent on a regular basis, and Nugent continually "upgrading" (***?) Zumbo while sequestered at his Texas ranch, shooting varmints with pink AR-15s and remaining incommunicado for a good long while. (Incommunicado meaning both Zumbo and Nugent) Then we can put our collective energies behind something and somebody useful to the cause, while minimizing our liabilities and letting at least two of the jokers cool their heels.

And by liability I mean the wonderful cut-and-paste job of Zumbo's infamous blog now seen on the Brady Website, using Zumbo's words as some sort of gospel truth that firearms unsuitable for sporting purposes have no need to exist in American hands. Those are mighty big buzzwords in legislative circles, even if the Second Amendment isn't about hunting. Our fellow member Wooderson needs to remember that, too, the whole "nose of the camel under the tent" thing.

I'm with BigG and Zundfolge - I trust Zumbo about as far as I can pick him up and throw him, regardless of how fast he received a "revelation" after umpteen bazillion years of Fudd mindset. He's changed his tune because he got caught, period. Others are perfectly entitled to disagree with me, that's what makes America great. Zumbo doesn't need my help, anyways. I see it's a love-fest of sorts already, we have big-name folks tripping over each other like Keystone Kops trying to get Zumbo into free tactical carbine courses, and it wouldn't surprise me if he got a call with invitations from Thunder Ranch, GunSite, and so forth - "Take an avowed gun bigot out shooting EBRs", good PR for the business, that. I don't wish him ill will, but he really isn't ready for prime time again, especially if we want him to wear 2A colors. Thanks for the apology, Mr. Zumbo, now go somewhere, lie low, learn something, and use that accumulated editorial skill of yours to teach Ted Nugent proper English spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Don't call us, we'll call you when we feel we might need you. BTW, both of you stay away from any word processor with Internet connectivity, ok?

Personally, I feel DPMS is quite in the right to drop Nugent, and this "turd chewin' bubba" will email them to applaud that decision.

Give a link eh Gewehr?

I've seen the supposed Brady reference to Zumbo on the fraudulent Myspace Brady Campaign webpage, but that is it. I've checked the Brady website, but I can't find it. If the Bradys are using Zumbo, somebody please post a hyperlink to the actual webpage so I can see it, evaluate it, and blog about it.

Not disagree'n at all, I stand by my remarks in post #83, but I want to see the horse's mouth.

Thanks.

A lot of you guys are missing something.

I'm not concerned about the past.

Why?

Because I cannot affect the past.

The future, however, is entirely different. If we can use this situation to increase 2nd amendment awareness among the approximate 97,000,000 (datsa whole lotta zeroes!) gun owners who are NOT members of the NRA, that's a positive outcome.

A "don't call us, we'll call you" attitude will basically continue our abyssmal status quo.

We've got 100,000,000 gun owners in this country. If they'd vote together, they'd be the most powerful force in the WORLD. You can stick to your high principles, etc., but if we can use Zumbo's transgression, then by all means.
