Tell me about the Glock....

Lots of things to like personally, but for some people it's not the "ideal" gun. My wife tried for months to improve her shooting with my G26 but just never did. Then one day she tried her friend's Ruger SR9. And that, as they say, was that.

My wife is far better with her SR guns (9, 9c & 40) that with any Glock we own. So if you were to ask her, she'll tell you it just wasn't a gun she could live with.

If all you want to know about are the metrics, the G26 (like all Glocks) is a well made, reasonably accurate and reliable shooter. But that doesn't make it a gun suited for all shooters. For that you're going to have to try one yourself.

Concealable, can be turned into a bigger Glock, reliable, accurate, that consistent Glock trigger, Gen 4 grip texture and mag release is great, fits in most peoples' hands well, and 11 rounds in a gun that can fit in your pocket.

Is there anything to dislike?

I love mine. Its one of my favorite pieces to carry. Prefer it as a medium carry piece when I want more than a mouse gun and don't want to carry a heavy 1911. Great Spring/Fall gun and one of my favorites to pack in the woods (impervious to most of the grimy conditions).

On top of all that, I shot it better than my full sized Ruger P89. It's one I never wanna give up. I prefer 1911s in .45, but when I reach for a 9mm, it's my lil 26.

Funny how Generation 4 reliability issues are so often overlooked. There are a lot of options out there that are more reliable and ergonomic than gLoCk.

That may be your opinion, however your gun choice is very personal and no gun is right for every shooter. The Glock has a loyal following and many take a while to really know a Glock.
I have both a gen 3 and a gen 4 Glock in 9mm. Prefer the Gen 4, no issues with either.
Ruger and S&W M&P are both high quality guns also. This class of guns are tools and not necessarily the guns that you make into a hobby.

I have had ZERO reliablity issues with my G22. Thousands of reloads through it. Never a single issue, ever.

Gen 4 g27 here. No btf or reliability issues here either. I wonder if the issues were a little overblown.... There was obviously an issue. Was is really as bad as the forums might have you believe?

Actually, they're not overlooked. In fact, I find it funny that the initial issues are STILL harped over by the uninformed, yet they've been fixed for well over a year and a half. Add to that the fact that Glock will replace your gun for free, if you have/had those issues. I've got 9000 rounds combined between three Gen 4 Glocks, not one single failure in any of them, and no btf in any of them. All post-Feb 2012.

Amazing what you learn by doing things, instead of reading.

Also, ergonomics are subjective and "gLoCk's" reliability is the same as any other quality polymer handgun.

Anti Glock ?

I was not EVER going to own a "tupperware" gun.

But I tried one [ model 27 ] and now own 6.

In defense of the Glock I must note that the MAJORITY of LEO guns in this state [ and most states ] is the Glock.

IF there was a major problem with the Glock,it would have made national news as so many officers would have blown off faces and damaged hands.

I was a firearms instructor and keep up on other instructors,NONE of them are reporting such a problem.

This leads me to believe that the VAST majority of Glocks are GTG,in fact that is THE pistol I would grab in a MHTVS moment.

There are only TWO guns within a reasonable price range that I'd trust my life to.

Glock

S&W M&P.

I go with the Glock ultimately because of the ability to self-smith the dang things myself. Nothing like being able to do WHATEVER you want with your pistol without having to drag it to a gunsmith.

^ didn't you just spend more on a Ruger? Cause it really isn't about what you need... LOL

as for glock I almost hung one of mine on the target during the last range visit and shot it with my Baer. I had bought 400 rounds of Hornady Match for a pistol class and my 20+yro Beretta type M went through 360 rounds without a hiccup. i figured id shoot up that and some WWB through my 19c (g3).It. couldn't make it more than 2 rounds without malfunctioning on it. I was not a happy camper..

But the OP didn't ask about an old full size G-22.

He ask about a new sub-compact G-26.

Two different animals entirely!!

My old G-23 has never missed a beat either.

But its not a sub-compact.
And it's not a Gen 4 Sub-compact.

Something tells me the old Glock's the reputation was built on were better guns in all respects the 'new' Gen-4's.

After all, mine was advertised as Glock Perfection in 1995 when I got it.

How can they improve on Perfection, if it was as perfect as they said it was then??

Your life is limited to a price range?

Very few people can afford the "best" and most expensive of everything. The absolute 'most reliable' gun, the best firearm training available, the safest car made, the safest house (from gunfire, hurricane/tornado, flood, earthquake, you name it), the healthiest food, the perfect amount of sleep (few get as much as they should), the safest job, the safest neighborhood, etc.

Like it or not, money is a limiting factor, and it's not like you are getting a piece of crap that's going to fall apart if you buy a Glock.

I a 26 (and a 36). Both were excellent but I never carried them like I thought I would and traded them for an FNP45 and got some money back as well. This was all before the world ended and a used Glock like my two were selling retail for about $300-325.

Sort of regret not just buying the FNP and keeping the Glocks anyway. Still have my old 17 (bought it from a cop friend about 20 years ago and then sent it to Smyrna about 15 years ago for a free refit/upgrade to Gen II.

For the size of the 26, however, I'd look for a 19 instead. I'd trade my 17 for one if I could find someone stupid enough to do it. ;)

Last summer Beretta had a "test drive" offer that for (I think) $10 you got to shoot the Beretta Nano and one other Beretta firearm. I chose the M9 (92SF). I shot both, and the Nano was OK, and I was really disappointed in the M9. I had always wanted a 92/M9 but after shooting it, not anymore. Just didn't like the trigger.

After the "test drive" I still had a box of 9mm so for grins I rented a G26. I shot the smallest groups by far with it, and it felt like an extension of my hand.

I had wanted to get a S&W M&P Shield 9mm, but after shooting the G26 I forgot all about the Shield, the Nano, and anything else. I bought a G26 Gen 3 on December 1st, and it's been my carry ever since.

I added the Pearce +1 magazine extensions, and it is the perfect range and CCW pistol for me using an Old Faithful IWB holster.

Good - Good pistol. Reliable. Almost indestructible. Easy to field strip. Multitude of accessories. Great reputation

Bad - Grip is awful for me. Feels like I'm trying to point a brick. Shooting any Glock for me is extremely uncomfortable.

If YOU are comfortable with the way it feels when shooting it, go for it. You could do a whole LOT worse

The Glock 26, The biggest pro for me is options. IWB, OWB, ankle carry not likely but doable, pocket again not big % but still can be done, jacket carry. Mags 10-33 rds and everything in between. Dual purpose, 10 round mag for carry, get home switch out to a 17 rd for the nightstand.
It's the only small gun that shoots like a big one for me. The dual recoil spring plus poly frame make it extremly fast to aquire and keep on target.
Con- It's thicker than most subcompacts, some don't like the grip, no rail up front. Some bitch about the sights, my stock ones work just fine.

FYI - ankle carry

I do carry the G-27 in an ankle rig that Lou Alessi made me a 'few' years [ decades ? ] back.

Its is THE best if its a hot day and or your at a formal wedding or say a park in the summer.

You have a real gun and a decent amount of loaded ammo, easy enough to wear a spare mag on other ankle or in pocket.

This was my work BUG when I was LEO,and now its a deep cover gun for above posted reasons.

A Glock 26 will soon be my first polymer weapon, replacing my beloved CZ 75 compact as my edc.
Why? Weight. These old bones need relief.
