Tell me about the Ruger M77

Tang Safety M77

I have a 1972 model in 7mm Rem Mag that I can get 3/4 groups with hand loads and even better groups with factory Winchester 150 grain power points.

The only problem I have with this rifle is that I haven't been able to improve upon the factory loads with my hand loads. Shooting this rifle is what got me started in reloading.

My .270 MkII is a dream. The only factory loads it ever ate shot 1.188" groups. My handloads shoot just under .75" groups. I've taken elk and deer with this gun and it will always be my favorite hunting rifle.

Sorry to hear your considering purchasing a Kimber... lots o' rubles for not so lots of accuracy. BUT, they are pretty.

Kinda' like having a super model for a wife.... great to look at but a man has to eat, have clean clothes, ect...:p

I have two Kimbers, they both shoot fairly well, but for the money you'll drop on one, you could have an excellent production grade rifle or with few dollars more, get a custom built that would shoot circles around the Kimber.

A nice production grade, ei... Ruger, Savage, Thompson Center, Winchester, Browning, Tikka, oh h3ll, I'll even include the Remingtons... would leave you enough cash for a serious start at some really good glass.

Nothing wrong with the Ruger 77's... they are to say the least, one of those firearms you either love... or not. I have not been able to wring exceptional accuracy out of the 77's, but it may be doable.

Just a thought-:D

77 MK II Ruger changed the bolt to a controlled round feed, thinned the stocks, non-adjustable trigger (triggers normally need a gunsmith) and moved the safety and made it a two position so you can load and unload with the gun on safe.

The MK IIs have three position safeties. I have two of the older, tang safety 77s (a .257 Roberts and a 30-06 Springfield), both bought new in the seventies, and two MK IIs (an International chambered in .308 Winchester and an RS version chambered in 7X64 Brenneke). All four rifles are plenty accurate; none of them going over two inch moas and one of them (the'06) regularly flirts with sub-one inch groups with selected factory ammunition.

I agree that the triggers will usually benefit from some attention (though I hear that the latest 77 triggers are much improved) and I wish my two older ones had factory irons. I have owned Remington 700s, still have a Savage 116 SE and have shot more than a few Winchester Model 70s-and I still much prefer the Ruger 77.

My Ruger M77 RSI made in 82 is a push feed not control feed.

And i dont think you lose anything being a mannlicher stock attached at the end. The gun chambered in 250 Savage is regularly sub .5 MOA with factory Remington 100 grains.

of course i may have a little bit of shooting advantage with it since i get paid to shoot :D
