I am considering building vs. buying one box stock. Tell me what the final cost for your AR build and a brief description of upper/lower you used.

And in your opinion was it worth building vs. buying?

Thanks.

RRA Elite $550
RRA stripped lower $185 (bought local as nobody online had stock at the time)
RRA 2 stage NM LPK $170
EOTech 552 $325
Magpul MIAD $30
Magpul CTR Mil Spec with H Buffer and buttplate $170

Not much savings over buying complete but when you factor in the fact that I have the grip, trigger, and stock/buffer combo I was going to upgrade with, it worked out in the end.

RRA Stripped lower-$120
RB Precision LPK-$55
4-POS Stock-$40
RRA 16"Mid lengthCAR,Chrome lined,A4-$445[Legal Transfers]
IDF sling-$10
Bushnell Trophy MP-$145[Optics Planet]
Matech BUIS-$55

I built a Franken-15. All used parts of of Arf dot com. Picture an unknown A2 upper with a Colt 20" barrel, triangle hand guards, it gets worse but you get the picture. Total price: $425

I have built the top of the line all new matching parts(not counting optics): $1500

RRA lower complete with 6 position stock : $219
DPMS 16" bull barrelled upper: $399
Scope block: $20
Mcormick Match Trigger $190

Total $ 729 plus the optic of your choice.

Actually I have a DPMS lower with a standard stock and sometimes they wind up on various uppers depending on what I'm shooting. Here's the DPMS lower on the 50 Beowulf, it also cost $219, and it also has a Mcormick trigger in it.

RRA Midlength Upper $429
Bushmaster lower $260 (with A2 stock)
RRA M4 stock $69
YHM rear flip up sight $75
$833 total, which is about what I paid for a factory Bushmaster Dissipator a couple of years earlier. Also, this rifle was assembled 3 yrs ago so I don't know what the pricing looks like these days.
