Something in .45 Colt

Most offerings are single actions. They are slower to empty than most handguns, but nothing beats a lead slug galloping downrange and the thump associated with it. A Colt SAA clone is relatively inexpensive and Rugers are built like tanks and have adjustable sights.
I have an Enfield No4 and love it. Ammo isn't cheap and is often of doubtful quality. Mauser ammo is cheap.
Also, get a run of the mill smith and wesson in .38 special. Wonderful guns that are quite handy.

My post IS in jest... (thin skinned, Poker Pro?)

BUT it also begs the question of letting some anonomous person on the internet spend YOUR money on a gun for YOU...

Why not give an idea of what you are thinking of buying? instead of just "I have $$$, spend it for me!" - your way sounds snobbish, like you have alotta cash, so much that you don't care what you get, AND like you just want to show off and get what everybody else has, (keeping up with the Jones's)

You DO list a couple guns, then say "but I don't want/need those right now..." you do give a price range, but then you double THAT... you really aren't giving alotta usable info...

IF you show that you are thinking about things as you post, it seems more sincere from your end... A little info, Do you want a rifle, handgun, shotgun, What are you thinking about, What price range? What have you looked at? etc... because the "I have alotta cash, So I'll let YOU spend my money, faceless stranger" approach turns me off...

Edited to add, your comment about "700 posts on this name alone" it is the only name I have on here... had it for over 4 years here, and a few on "The Firing Line" before that... I don't sugar-coat anything, and here or in person matters not... (I have alot of friends that LIKE my open honesty...)

Those who have asked me on the purchase fo a firearm be it pistol, revolver or rifle i suggest a .22 most are inexpensive to buy and shoot.Next up the scale 9mm parabellum or 9x19 if you will, wide selection of pistols from CZ to Ruger. Center fire rifle
depends on the use 223 AR 15 of some type 30 caliber M1 Garrand don't own one but I have fired several and they are a damn good rifle Throw in a 357 mag along the way and you'll be in very good shape

Hemi - Jest or not, your post was condescending at BEST. Your clarification reveals even moreso your intent to embarass me. It seems to me YOU are thin skinned as my original post offended you so much you just had to respond, in jest, to poke fun at my inadequecies. Next time dude, just move on. My response wasn't actually a result of just your post. It has built up over the 2 years I've spent here observing a similar attitude towards countless young, inexperienced shooters.

Moving on to the suggestions in this thread. I listed in my original post 4 guns that I am going to acquire at some point...that's a starting point. Some have already suggested going ahead with the Garand or the AK. That's the way I'm leaning at the moment. It should be noted that I don't own a centerfire semi-auto rifle. I think I should.

highlander, would you suggest getting a .357 in addition to the SP101 I have that shoots 38special and .357?

If your SP101 shoots .357, it is a .357. You can't shoot .357 out of a .38 due to case length differences, but you can shoot .38 out of a .357.

Hi-Standard .22 pistol. From one of the two Ct. locations only. Extreamly well made, accurate, very collectable, prices seem to be going up. Variety of models. These were Olypic quality target guns in the 50' maybe 60's. I have one left to me by my father (50's manuf), and everyone in my family enjoys shooting it.

P.S tend to be a little finicky about ammo brands, mags. are expensive.

OK, there's a million AK threads, and I've read most of them so I'm just gonna respond in my own. I've decided to get my feet wet with a WASR AK, and save some money to use on a CMP Garand this spring.

I'm deciding between the two AK's at AIMSurplus.

AK-WASR2 Romanian WASR-2 5.45x39 AK Rifle

Since I'll be buying a case of ammunition, and 5.45 is cheaper right now, my combined cost of rifle and ammunition would be $60 cheaper if I go this route. I've also read a lot of great things about this rifle and this cartridge.

AK-GPWASR NEW AK WASR 7.62x39 RIFLE

From reading OLDER posts, it appears 7.62 is not always more expensive. Also, I'll be getting an SKS at some point, so I'd already have ammo for it. I also really want the bayo lug and muzzle break... From my research, 7.62 kind of seems like the standard "first AK" purchase...

So I'm leaning 7.62 right now and I'm going to make my final decision today. Your thoughts are appreciated.

AK-WASR2 5.45x39

I may be late, getting in to this discussion, but AIM has these on sale for $290. I am ordering mine 2morrow and then an M-1 Carbine from CMP on 4/30

In anticipation or any ban I would gat an AK and/or AR or any other that might get targeted like a Mini-14/30 and M1A.

PokerPro,
If you consider reloading your ammo at some point, the cost difference you mention becomes insignificant. They you can get the gun you really like best, and your ammo costs will be about the same for either.
