What works for you for summer carry? Best shirts, pants, gun, method of carry...Ok all you long time pros, help us new comers to CCW with your best advice..As always, thanks..

I carry the same way year round and live in Colorado where there can be temp extremes.

In the Waist Band Galco summer something or other, with an H&K USP stuffed inside it.

I t-shirt over it in the summer and a jacket over that in the winter.

I can never understand the rationale behind changing a rig for summer carry vs. winter

Like anything, it depends. A combination of different factors. A good holster and belt are the primary factors.

The same rig should be worn whatever the weather. A linen suit really helps too as it gets to be 99 and 99% humidity around these parts.

If you get a day off then I like yuppie scum wear. I like khaki pants, a short sleeve shirt for the Territory Ahead catalogue. If I want to hide it, I wear a V-neck T-shirt underneath my other shirt. If you dress down like Delta, you can go with dual T-shirts (or just one if you're tough).

A nice thin holster inside a pair of khaki pants is the best start. Then a t-shirt with a light buttom up short sleeved shirt over that. Its nice looking, its certainly a cool way to go in the hot Florida summer. And it is certainly effective.

You gotta wear it high, and close to the body.
I can carry my P-225 that way wearing just a light t-shirt and it is completely concealed.
I just have to be careful when I bend over or stretch.

When I see a guy with a fanny pack not on a beach, I think, 'Gun'.

Same thing when I see a guy outside of California and not on the beach wearing shorts, a tucked in t-shirt and an overshirt over it.

Of course, most people that would care probably don't think about it.

I wear Ben Davis work shirts over a t-shirt. The work shirts are kind of 'stiff' so the gun won't print. You can wear IWB or OWB.

Heres the shirt.

Well, If you go to Circus Circus and get one of their pink fanny packs...

You blend right in here in Las Vegas.

Other times you may want to wear an IWB holster (buy your britches an inch or two larger) with a vest (not a photographers vest... too obvious) or a sports coat/overshirt, Hawaiian shirt, golf shirt for cover.

After a while you don't even think about it, you just dress that way automatically.

I've also got a heavy leather vest from Coronado with built in pockets for carry.

One of the "belly bands" can be used. I've got one in black and one in white. Uncomfortable at first. Does tend to keep the "gut" tightened up and the ladies just love the svelte look (LOL)

When I carry/wear the black fanny pack, it tends to go over one shoulder with the bag hanging under the arm, but it's not real quick to access, so you've got to be in a Condition Yellow and pre-think your draw while looking for cover. (Sound too paranoid yet?)

There's always the notebook/planner carry device. But you can misplace one of those if your wits aren't about you at all times.

Then again, some like a smaller weapon (mouse gun anyone?) in a pocket holster stuck in a front pocket or in a coat pocket.

Thunderwear? For some. Not moi.

When you're on the beach and wearing your speedo's... you're on your own. Can't help ya there.

Your choices are many. Hope that helped.

Adios

L.L. Bean makes shirts in their "traveler" line which are designed to worn untucked, with flat bottom hems, and which come in long sizes.

IWB is no problem even on the hottest days.

Start with "cargo" shorts or jeans shorts, so you can wear a decent belt with them.

Then just wear a t-shirt or golf shirt untucked.

Another good option is the shorts, with t-shirt tucked in and a hawaiian shirt or gaucho shirt over.

Of course, a P-32 goes in any pocket, anywhere...

Completely agree with summer carry in Florida. A stiff belt, an IWB from Galco carried behind hip, tucked in tight, heavy T-shirt over it and no one knows. If it shows, try Mexican Carry same position. Even a light T-Shirt hides it.

Rule number one, in a gunfight, have a gun!!!

For when the weather is hot-hot and I care about being discrete, I've given up on carrying my "real" guns and bought a KelTec P11. It rides invisibly using any number of concealment methods.

Small, small, small. The new Kel Tec looks like a promissing compromise between size and strength.

If im in pants in the summer, its on my ancle. More space available. If Im in shorts, it'll be in the pocket. Must be small yet reasonable powerfull...

Although, a propperly placed .22 ..... you know the rest.....

I carry a concealed Glock 23 year round in a Dillon Master holster. One of the best tips I can suggest is buying some polos or t-shirts one size larger then you normally wear. That will leave a little extra room to prevent the handgun from "printing" against the fabric of the shirt. I also wear a Hanes tank-top under the shirt to help prevent perspiration getting to my G23. This has work very well for me over the last several years.

Summer Carry

I've been carrying a full-size 1911 for a little over a year now, all year long. I carried mostly 4-inch Smith K-Frames or a Ruger P95 before that...I've held a CCW for eleven years now. Whenever possible I opt for a strong-side pancake-style holster and cover it with either an untucked shirt, a vest, or a sportcoat depending on where I'm going. If I can be casual, I'll usually wear a good heavyweight t-shirt to insulate me from the gun and then cover with an untucked golf or button-down shirt.

At times I do opt for fanny pack carry and use a wonderful Galco rig that my father-in-law bought me some years ago. It's light grey in color, not "tactical black," so maybe it's not as obvious.

Once I lose some flab from the waistline I'm going to try some IWB holsters...I already wear a size 38 waist in pants and can't stand the thought of having to buy 40s to accomodate an IWB holster! Vanity, vanity, vanity... :)

Galco Royal Guard with a Springfield Armory Ultra-Compact .45.

I can wear a t-shirt or flat bottomed shirt with no problem.

Jeez, am I the only one pocket carrying a J-frame here? Maybe all those other snub carriers just aren't clicking this thread 'cause they've got this problem licked;)

Some good tips so far...How about your favorite retailer and Brand name clothing.... also, lets talk about vests...is there any such thing as a good quality vest at a reasonable price??What has been your experience with vest for ccw???

thunderwear style holsters can also be worn on the hip. I can get away with one with CCW a Ruger P-95 wearing sweats and a t-shirt. also, the kind of "hip bags" that you see around, the littlecarry alls for daytimers and cell phones pens etc etc. around here we have lots of students and they all carry them so there not out of place (and can be pretty fast if you practice).

as for fanny packs, look around and try to notice how many people in your area wear them. that will tell you if there stealthy or not.
