Arizona Gun Shops

I'm going to be on vacation in Arizona in the middle of next month. I'm flying into Phoenix and will spend 10-days going as far south as Tombstone and up north to Flagstaff to visit family. I love older long guns, 1900-1970. Can anyone suggest some good gun shops with a large selection of older/used guns? I have a C&R to make purchases easier. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't miss you chance to check out Scottsdale Gun Club. You might even setup a full auto rental if you've never shot one before. They had a G36c last time I was in ( a while back ) and it was a blast.

A little pawn shop which I can't remember the name of, off of Alma School in Mesa - HUGE selection of milsurps, CMP stuff, a little new stuff, and LOTS of old ammo

Pistol Parlor in Mesa - Only if its on your way, VERY small store, market prices, but NICE people, huge selection of reloading stuff...

THE J&G Sales is in Prescott, 1 hour north of Phoenix! That's a must. That will be C&R heaven, well, and everything else heaven. You have seen there website i'm sure ?

Pistol Parlour in Mesa isn't very big, but what an awesome shop it is. Great prices, great selection. Mom and Pop shop with prices that frequently bury bigger outfits. Not always, but often. Not sure how they do it. Staff has a lot of charisma so be prepared

Scottsdale Gun Club is a gorgeous facility. Now, i have to take issue with the blanket assessment of overpriced. Yes, some things are grossly overpriced, But, some of their prices DESTROY everyone elses value-wise, and they frequently buy large lots of items and clear them out for cheap. I've seen police turn-in Glocks going for 330$ there before. Some of it is overpriced, but much of it is definitely not. There is also a place next to Scottsdale Gun Club that I haven't stopped into, might be worth looking into. Rent yourself a tommy gun or one of many other nfa toys at scottsdale gun club

Of course we have Bass Pro, Cabelas and all that stuff.

I quit shooting in the desert because of all the weirdos and the reports of robberies/attempts, so I'm not sure if my spots exist anymore. As usual, scumbags ruin many of the pull-off spots.

I'm sure other Arizona boys here can chime in.

Flagstaff has Ruff's, Pistol Parlor, and Horizon. Pistol Parlor does a lot of custom work. I drooled over one of his 1911s a while back. We are on a first name basis with the guys at Ruff's. Heck, I think we have put at least one of his kids through college! Been to Horizon once, but wasn't impressed. They all are expensive, but that is the Flag way of life. If you go to Ruff's, tell them Steve and Joan from Tuba sent ya.

Bear Arms is a nice place, but I'd definitely check out Legendary Guns on 19th Ave. and Colter(Phoenix). You'll find a lot in Tucson, some great ones are Murphy's Guns and Tucson's Guns. I'd recommend the Scottsdale Gun Club and it's neighbor store US Auto Weapons, but you're not too likely to find a lot of C&R pieces. But if you're in the market for some very nice rifles or newer handguns you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely check these out. My last vacation was in Orlando and the responses I got from that post really were great and led me to exactly what I was looking for.

If anyopne else has suggestions for used gun shops, especially in Tucson and the Sedona area I would really appreciate it.

I lived in Prescott for almost a decade and while J&G was great my favorite gun shop by far in the area was Prescott Valley Guns. They always had a huge collection of used guns and many would qualify for C&R. whenever I go back to Prescott to visit I always stop at Prescott Valley Guns first.

I would also suggest stopping by Bucky O'Neil's. It's a small shop just down the street from J&G and the owner Charlie is a great guy. He tends to have some very interesting guns in his shop.

well, I Just added some places to visit to my own list as an AZ resident I definitely need to check out Bear Guns, and the others in Prescott. Probably won't be in Flag or Tucson for awhile, but everything is logged in the cell for when i do

AZ already mentioned two good places in Tucson, you might also try Second Amendment Sports on Pima Street. They recently became a Class III dealer and have some nifty stuff.

Cabela's in Glendale has a good selection of older used stuff including mil surplus. Others have mentioned most of the ones I could think of.

Has J and G Sales changed since I was there 10 years ago - then you came in the door and there was a empty counter and cases of ammo - not much to see - you had to know what you wanted to see before you got there really.

...Richey Sprague's gun shop in Yuma; as good as Prescott Valley Firearms and for less $. Stop by Lute's Casino for lunch it's where the "elite meet"

J&G has mil surp, used police and security S&W, more ammo than you can load in a pickup. Theire counter guys are knowledgeable, patient and friendly. If you can stop by take a look at thier website, Google J&G, before you go. They are out of Yugo M57 tokarev right now but have pretty good condition 1895 Nagant seven shooter revolver going right at $100 with holster. These will handle 32 H&R mag easily but I use a Lee die set to change 32-20 WCF into Nagant. Want to see how, Google THE NAGANT MAN. They will let you look at three if you are serious and choose one at that price. They also like cash. Prescott Valley Guns is on the way in to Prescott on highway 69. They have more than a touch of everything and a lot of "pre owned". BE WARNED, Prescott Valley is heavily into photo radar, watch the speed limit signs. I have 9 gun stores within 20 minutes drive of my house, ten if you are willing to count Walmart. Send me a PM if you want more Info on where to eat and what to see, I am an old retired usetowasit.

I'll second both of those. I always stop by PVG when I'm working in the area. There rifles are right out on the sales floor where you can look all you want without bothering the staff and prices seem reasonable. Bucky O'Neil's I just discovered a couple of days ago on my way to J&G. Nice little shop that I'll definitely visit again. IMHO J&G really isn't that impressive but maybe I just expected more after seeing their web site.

BTW Is there a range that rents guns in the Prescott area? I could have sworn there was one in PV but I can't remember where.

+1 for AJI in Apache Junction. They have some "specials" tables with some great prices on ammo! It varies what they have on the table but everything else is behind the counter.

High Noon in Prescott Valley has an indoor range, and rents like 10 guns... I think it's Glassford hill and the 69... Been there a few times, but bought most our guns at PV guns.

As BleysAhrens mentioned High Noon is the place to rent guns.

PV Guns has the best prices on gun in the area and you can actually negotiate the sticker price with them, unlike J&G where the price on the tag is the price you pay end of story.

Most of the other gun shops in the Prescott area are staffed by very knowledgeable adults whereas the sales staff at J&G are often very young guys who think they know everything but in reality they are more knowledgeable on how to sell guns than they are on guns. The guys who work at PV Guns and most of the other gun shops besides J&G will not BS you like the many of the young salesman at J&G will. Over the eight plus years that I lived in Prescott I saw many young salesman come and go from J&G but that wasn't the case with most of the other gun shops in the area where the same guys were working in those shops year after year and who actually shooters not just salesman. Although in J&G's defense there are a couple of sales clerks there that are really great guys and very knowledgeable, the kind of gun shop clerks that when you walk up to the counter they shake your hand and greet you by name. I referred to these clerks at J&G as "the long timers" because they were older and they were there year after year.

J&G is certainly a good gun store, but it's not really what you would call a gun shop. I would liken J&G to something more along the lines of Cabelas or Sportsmans warehouse, you go in to buy not to browse and while they have a ton on their website you'd be surprised how little there is on their floor to view. At PV Guns you walk in and there are racks of gun on the display floor and you can walk around and actually pick up guns without having to ask clerks if you can look at something. In the years I lived in Prescott I would estimate that I bought well over thirty guns from PV Guns and probably no more than ten at J&G.
