The "Castle Doctrine" bill has been pre-filed and assigned a number: HB103. You might also want to check out HB220, which prohibits employers from making parking lots off limits to CHL employees, unless the lot is fenced and monitored by a person (not by video). Time to start letter writing in earnest since we know who will be in office and the bills are being formalized.

This provision has to go. Guarding someone's car at work doesn't prevent them from getting carjacked on their way to or from work.

Actually, I think that provision is pretty smart. It removes the incentive for ConocoPhillips to sue the state of Texas over the legislation (as they are currently doing in Oklahoma) and it expands the protection Texans receive. If Oklahoma wins their case against ConocoPhillips, then the protection can always be expanded later. In the meantime, we don't have to pay the legal costs to battle ConocoPhillips or face the extra resistance in the legislature from legislators who are tight with those companies.

This provision might placate ConocoPhillips, but how many companies are going to sue because they suddenly need to spend money on fencing and security guards to keep CHL handguns out?

If companies don't want to spend money on security guards and fencing, I can't imagine them being eager to pony up the money to sue the state of Texas.

In any case, I'd also bet that unlike ConocoPhillips, they don't have lobbyists working at the Capitol full time.
