Wondering if any Texas hunters use the type two public hunting permit thing? I've had one off and on since they came out. I use it mainly, anymore, for hunting ducks down at Guadelupe Delta WMA which is good duck hunting normally. I've been hunting down there since it opened in the mid 80s. I've also hunted some of the east Texas WMAs and forest service lands controlled under the type two program, but never shot a deer on one. I reckon you kinda gotta live there to have much success, be able to scout it, know it. I've done some bang up squirrel hunting up there, though, and notice they now have areas for hogs and turkey. I've not really utilized it much in recent years, belonged to a hunting club for a while, and own some land I feeder watch on. But, I'm thinking about making trips to them more often in the future.

Anyone have opinions on the type two stuff or experiences they'd like to share? No need to speak out on favorite spots. It would just make me happy to know that some folks have had some success on these areas. I notice they have antlerless permits on some of 'em now. That's something new. I've seen deer on these places, mostly antlerless. Could have taken a few doe, but they were never legal in the past. Maybe next season I'll make some deer/hog/squirrel trips to some of the places I know about.

I hunt a few of the bird sites. There are 2 good dove areas near the B/CS area I hunted in college. Up here, (Panhandle area) there are quite a few good quail, phesant, dove, and duckgoosecrane areas. I spend my $48 every year, mainly just to support the program, but there are good hunts out there. I have skipped most of the deer stuff due to lack scout time. I figure I can luck into a deer if I went, but I like to preseason scout pretty hard as most of my deer hunting is with a bow.
