The .22 LR, Garand?

Well they say a Camel is a horse designed by a committee. If I tried to make a 10/22 into an M-1 Garand .22 ? It would likely be ugly and as ineffective as a short handled shovel. :(

Thats very cool, but without the open reciever it just dosent look right to me.
I'm curious if a garand could be modified to run .22lr, figgure replament bolt possibly modified magazine well and a lined barrel. Probably be a ton of work but damnably cool.

Now....if they would just make a Ruger Mini-Garand......eight round en-bloc 5.56/223.......my pulse would rise a bit...

I've been interested in this one too. Can't justify the price though. For a couple bucks more I can own another real one. Cool little rifle though.

I don't think that is just a dressed up 10/22. It looks like they made a steel receiver, full sized stock, full length barrel, Garand sights, keeping the 10/22 bolt, internal action parts and mating the 10/22 magazine to a Garand style floorplate. That is a full-size .22 replica of a Garand. The walnut in the photos is beautiful.
I'll admit tho' that a miniature Garand dressup kit for the standard 10/22 barreled action would be cute as all get out.

I can see a lot of room for selling 22lr and 9mm replica firearms now that the days of reasonable priced shooter grade guns are long gone for many of these models yet historic interest remains high as ever

I cut my teeth on the M1 rifle, and carried one as an adviser to the ARVN in '66-'67. But I don't see any point in gussying up a Ruger to make it look like a Garand..

One came through my LGS...........think it had steel receiver. Pretty cool.
Just dunno if it's 700 bucks cool.

If you are an M1 fan with grandkids...............

"At $699 a piece, these guns are reasonably priced,"

Their definition of reasonable and mine differ by about $450.00,,,
But, I have a good friend who is already going to order one.

Hey, the heart wants what the heart wants.

maybe some guys saying that rifle is just a tricked out 10-22 would buy a 10-22 for 200 and put 4-500 into it and still have a 10-22. I would rather have that 22 garand with the excellent sites

well I think it's cool. and even the 700 price tag is lower than I expected it to be. I can't afford one, but I will think it's neat.

I was at a gun show once and somebody there had a 10/22 that had been turned into a replica of a WW II German MG42. It was from a commercially available kit, but it appears the kit is no longer available.

Of course it was still a semi auto, but just think of the looks you would get if you took it to the local range.

However, along the M1 Garand line, here is another available kit that converts the 10/22 into an
M1 carbine look alike. The total cost comes in under $200 plus whatever you have in your 10/22.
They claim it's an easy conversion too.

I forgot about the M1 carbine kit. that is a good one and a nice price

For that kind of money I would buy the twin Gatling conversion and fire 60 round bursts at the groundhogs running across the yard. It does look cool, though until you get up close and see the 10/22 receiver top.

$700 for a 10/22?
I'd cough that up in a nanosecond for a factory checkered fingergroove sporter.

The Gatling kits........do work, kinda crude though (1st version?). Have seen them for .30 carbines too.

I could be imagining it, but was there ever a .22LR ROTC Training Rifle that was a .22LR Garand?

I've a vauge recollection of someone telling me about it.

( Edited to add)
I'm probably thinking of an M1903 conversion.

I kind of like it. If it operated on principles closer to the Garand or M14 (even if it fed out of 10/22 mags) I'd like it more.

I agree with the article that the sights make it a legit trainer. The factory 10/22 sights suck, and even the aftermarket ones like the 200 model Tech Sights aren't nearly as slick as a real set of Garand sights.

The Nodak rear is a little nicer and better finished.
