In Case you missed it on the other thread....

I'm going to post this here also.....I posted it today on another thread (Found a Nice 686 CS-1) and the story is there..... but I guess the pic really should get on the 686 Club Thread too.

I just included the modern version to show the grips on it.....because they were originally on the CS-1. The switch worked for my needs.

It also offers a nice comparison of new and old.

Hats off to the 686.

686 no dash that I've had for a while and the one i got today. I think i got a good deal. Let's just say that I got a brick of .22 and the 686 and my tab was under $400 by a good bit.

I have a 686-5. I had a local gunsmith cut down the stainless front sight, slot it, and put in a patridge sight in its place. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in the job he had done. Sent it back to Smith and Wesson and had them replace it with a black pinned red ramp sight. I couldn't be happier. They really did a great job. If I could ever figure out how to put a picture on here, I would show you.

Question - LGS has a 686-3 "classic hunter" 6" with unfluted cylinder. Value? LNIB - low round count, box, paperwork, unopened tool bag. They have $500 on it. I already have a 686 4" no dash and a 6" 586 no dash. Thinking it would make a nice addition. Great guns.

6" 686 Pro-Port 6-shooter from the mid 90s. Great gun, perfect trigger...I am unworthy.

Also a 4" 586 that I bought a year or so before the 686. Not in the same league. In fact, based on the 586's performance, I had no business buying the 686....but did anyway. Glad I'm not a slave to logic.

Here's my 686. I bought it new about 2 years ago and had it "Carmonized" over the winter. It's a great shooter.

686 / M, 4" Apparently, from reading another post, this was a first generation revolver with the M indicating it was returned and modified by S&W.

Also, the serial number is preceeded by the letters AHD. Guess I need to do some more reading about this revolver.

My favorite carry gun...did it my way!

My 686+ (-4)was born as a 6” barrel, but I had it shortened to 3 ¾”, ball detent moved to the crane, front sight replaced with a 14 ct gold dot, cylinder machined to accept moon clips and oversized cylinder release as the frosting on the cake.

Now it is my favorite carry piece with #358429 SWC (173 grain) over 13.5 grns of 2400 powder. In the woods, in the town, around the homestead and on the road…this gun/load combo always makes me feel like I have the equipment to handle just about anything.

Man, you guys are lighting my 686 fires again ...

I still have my mod 65 that I bought when I couldn't find a 3" 686.

I'd been thinking recently I might buy a 629 (.44 mag/spl),
but after listening to the report by my buddy that just bought one,
I'm rethinking that move. (Do I really want that much recoil?)

Maybe I'll put a 686 back on my want list.

Im sure you all wont mind but I got a 586 as my first handgun and I love it as much as you all love your 686's. There is just something about a blued revolver.

I know what you mean...nothing does it for me like blued steel and walnut....however, I'm a very lazy person and my firearms are outside with me alot, in the cold and wet...so Stainless is best for me.
