My question is if it's legal oR not, or even worth my time and money to go through the proper steps to obtaining an american 180 as a collectors pice as well as an investment for further price jumps for the years to come. as well as an affordable little plinking round on my farm in wilkes county nc. The only thing on my record is a 1989 conviction of me being stupid as a teen and making a false bomb threat as a joke over the phone, something im very embarresed about .I was just 17 and stupid. its a class c misdimeanor that happened over 20 years ago now. Ive been an outstanding citizen all these years later with a great job and college education, I hve bought handguns since with no issues but not sure about any troubles I would have purchasing a little 22 cal american 180. I know there are class 3 dealers and pre 1986 transfer guns for sale in the county i live in as well as suppressor sells at my local gun shop with a sign saying its easy to get if u take time to talk to em about it.. so i know they are availabale to purchase by someone or they wouldnt take time to stock em and talk u into a purchase.. thanks for your help. and honest answers, Robby. ps- is there anyone else out threre going through this or curious about it ? Robby

In general, if you can purchase non-NFA firearms you can purchase NFA ones as well.

However, a quick google search reveals that machinegun ownership in NC is a no-go.

Q: Is it legal for a private citizen to own a machine gun in North Carolina?

A: Per the North Carolina Attorney General's interpretation of relevant State law, the answer is clearly and unequivocally NO.

So really the answer is no, regardless of your previous misdeeds as a youngin'.

I feel the pain. In Iowa NFA is a no-no as well. I'd love to get a suppressor for my new Glock, but fake one will have to do...

You would be looking at $9500 + $200 for the gun and then another $200 plus whatever the suppressor costs.
