This game is THE best and most in-depth game for guns I have ever played. They literally talk about EVERY gun that anyone (you or the enemies) use in the game. There is a guy called "Sigint" who you can talk to over the radio at any point in the game and he will talk to you about whatever weapon you have equipped or whatever weapons and equipment the enemies are using. They even have conversations about the Hungarian AMD-63s that one enemy unit is using and how it is different from an AK-47, they talk in detail about your customized 1911 pistol, and the Stoner M63 that one of the bad guys is carrying (the people who made the game obviously wanted the enemies to have oddball weapons and not just the usual stuff.) I've never played a game that had this much specific, focused information about firearms in it, ever. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a Playstation 2 (or a PS3 I guess, since you can play the old games on that too.) Since it's old by video game standards, you can get this game for like nothing now, like 12 dollars. It takes a lot of patience though, because it can get really frustrating.

There was quite a bit written at the time on how the producers of that game were concerned with the realism of the weapons. One of the things I liked about that game was that you could use the actual sights when aiming.

Actually, the PS3 is NOT backwards-compatible with the PS/PS2 titles. :banghead:

However, I have both systems, as well as Metal Gear Solid 4, which is every bit as good as MSG3 (which I also have) when it comes to weapons detail, only with newer weapons (AK-102, FN SCAR-H, M14 EBR, FN Five-seveN, M249, etc). But in MGS4, you can customize weapons, such as attaching an ACOG or AimPoint, suppressors, flashlights, vertical grips, bipod, laser, etc. onto certain weapons. Weapons also share ammo if they are all the same real-world caliber, for example, if you find a stash of 5.56x45mm ammo, it goes into your inventory and you can then use it in the M4A1, the AK-102, or the FN Mk.46 LMG, since all are 5.56mm weapons. Same with 7.62x51mm and the HK21, the G3A3, the M14, and the SCAR-H. Also the same with the 9mm, .45 ACP, 5.7x28mm, 7.62x54R, etc.

Very excitng game for gun enthusiasts, with excellent attention to detail (not just in the guns either, but overall).

I think the 80gig PS3 (whichever one is more $$) will play Ps2, but the other will not.

It is funny how some video games credit smaller caliber guns with creating more damage.

Like in the Grand Theft Auto series, were a 5.56x45 causes more damage than a 7.62 x 39.

Keep it firearms related please. It would be a shame that a game actually got the weapons facts right and have the thread shut down because it drifted into gaming instead.

The detail in the weapons is one thing I really love about MGS4. I love learning the characteristics of each gun, which sights I like and which I don't. I don't care for the red dot on the MK17 or the sights in generally but the M4 Custom and the M14 EBR are my favorites. The G3 isn't bad either but I like peep sights. The M60 is pretty cool too, I use it in boss fights where you want extra capacity because a 20 or 30 magazine just doesn't last long in full auto. Overall, MGS4 is a great game for gun geeks. :D

the best gun related video game ever is still postal 2.
you get to use cats for silencers & you get to tell people after you waste them "chuck heston is my president"

Rainbow Six Vegas 2, It is extremely accurate down to loading belt feds

Hk-21: popped cover, snap on box, feed, snap link in, close cover, pull changing handle,

Revolvers use moon clips but still, using bolt catch on the AR's cool.

Another great detail, at the beginning of the game Ocelot has a Makarov (instead of a revolver.) I thought to myself during the cutscene, "hey, that looks like a Makarov," but I wasn't sure. Then later they actually TALKED about it! They also talk about Eva's Mauser broom-handle pistol (actually, about how it's a Chinese copy of it.) They even get that detail. They get every detail. Whoever makes those games has always liked throwing oddball guns in there that you don't see in most games. The original Metal Gear Solid had a FAMAS.
