Hey all,
Well I've gotten myself into a situation. I recently started a thread in the rifle section about potential value of a winchester 94 ranger. The group concluded it's value in the $400 range, which is about what I paid for it last year (used, LNIB). Reason being a customer of mine (in a nonfirearms related indusrty) had told me every 94 hes seen under $1000 was beat up and rusty. So I told him I had an extra 94 that I never shoot and I'd be willing to part with. I sent him a bunch of pictures and without me mentioning any cost he offered me $700. I told him that was high for what I had and directed him to some auction sites with identical guns. Nope, he didn't care. He wants mine because he can physically inspect it and has no shipping or other fees and he insisted he's happy to pay $700. I showed him a NIB ranger for $500 and he still wants mine. Ok, I tried. So I'll be doing that deal this week. By my figuring I'm only a few hundred off on the BFR I've been eyeing - 5.5" in 500JRH. I see them on gun broker for right about $1000. My question is- what is the best place to buy one of these? My LGS doesn't stock them and I just want to get it for the best possible price. Never bought a gun from an auction site so I'm unsure on fees and other costs. What do you all think?
Thanks

Go to the manufacturer website and find the SKU for the model you want.

Then check out gun, deals and put that SKU into their search engine and generally it does a good job of finding deals.

I tried it and it worked, $70 cheaper but out of stock everywhere. I may just go the gun broker route, anyone know if there are additional fees?

I just checked Davidson's and it looks like they handle Magnum Research BFR. They're a wholesaler that will ship to any FFL for you to pick up. Here's a link. I've used them several times and gotten good deals.

It has been a couple of years but I bought a shotgun using gun broker and only paid shipping.
This is a really good price for that JRH and I believe the same dealer that I bought the shotgun from. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/860451732
That is a great deal, and it's got a bisley grip too. Oh yeah! I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on it as soon as I've got those suffering dollar bills in my hand. Thanks!
-no, I really don't need such a gun but if I don't buy it I'll have to live with the shoulda coulda wouldas for my whole life.
I was pretty dead set on getting the ruger carryhawk convertible -seen @CraigC 's? But the cost is within a couple hundred and I've got plenty of guns chambered in 45acp & 45 colt so I figure I better mix it up a little and get something a bit impractical that I have no brass, bullets, dies or load data for. That's the spice of life, at least from where I'm sitting.
