The concept of a "field pistol"?

Probably a pistol that I didn't care broke or lost while being powerful enough to stop most 2 and 4 legged critters. Glock 20.
 
I live in SC - not a lot of wild predators out here. Black bear is a remote possibility as they are around but relatively rare. There are coyotes but honestly they don't typically attack an adult human and they're relatively small.

So for me, any normal CCW piece is fine, and typically when I'm out hunting I do just carry my normal carry gun (which these days is a Taurus 709 slim).
