The concept of a "field pistol"?

In my personal opinion, "field pistol" is a made up genre intended solely for the FK BRNO.

I thought it was something like the concept of the "woods gun" until I looked it up, but that's not what it is at all.

If I were into that sort of thing, I already have a stainless .357 mag Security Six with a 6" barrel. It's really not even close to the same thing, but I have better things to do with $8000.

The caliber is really weird: 90 grains at 2000 fps. That's really light and fast for a pistol. I bet you could get pretty close with adventurous loads in 7.62x25 or .357 sig. A .300 blk or .30 carbine "pistol" could do it too.

We have a number that fill that niche but one I like is the Ruger SRH in 10mm. You can put on or take off a scope without interfering with the iron sights, it is more than powerful enough for anything in our area, can be loaded down to 40 S&W levels if less power is desired, and will group just over 2" @ 50 yards. It is also a rugged revolver that stands up to use.

Not a auto but to me a 'field pistol' is a sidearm that I carry when out in the woods and in my case that has always been my stainless 5.5" Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag loaded with my 180 gr. XTP's over a near max charge of powder.

Now granted it isn't the lightest gun to lug around but at 6'5" and 265 lbs. I'm not the most petite fella drawin' air either so having it on my side has never bothered me.

Im just going to come right out and say what everyone else is certainly thinking. Redhawk and to a greater extent super redhawks are...beyond beautiful.
...makes a python look like hi-point.

To me a field pistol is something I can survive with, it really doesn't matter too much as to caliber. I am confident with most any size caliber up to 45 acp. If I want to carry a lot of ammo a .22 is my choice. One can kill a lot of small game with a .22. Next choice would be a .357, followed by a .45. Being confident means practice and knowing what the pistol is capable of.

Field pistol...hmmm...

I’d say that it should be versatile enough to cover a wide range of circumstances if you’re hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, or working on a farm maybe.

I would take one of two choices for the task: either a .357 revolver or .22 revolver, DA/SA, and as lightweight as possible. I’d want it to up to the task of defense, hunting small or medium game, or as a dispatch tool if I’m hunting. Certainly it should be light enough to carry all day long with out much issue, and constructed in a way that would stand up to bad weather and wet conditions.

The LCRx 3” in either .357/.22 is one of the best field pistols out there. Meets the criteria above as best as can be done.

Yup.
Field pistol
House gun
Pocket pistol
Truck gun
Car gun
Service pistol
Bug out gun
Woods gun
Back up pistol
Hideout pistol
Throw down gun
Survival gun

ANY pistol can fit any of these "genre"...…..an NAA Mini revolver, 1911, Python. S&W 29 or a Glock 19.
It's as silly as "sniper rifle"......ANY rifle used by a sniper is a sniper rifle.

Bed time while camping in bear country. G29 with 15 round G20 magazine loaded with 200 Gr DoubleTap hardcast @ 1250 fps from the shorter barrel. I sleep as well as I would with any other gun. It'll give similar penetration as 44 mag, beats 357 mag while weighing over a pound less and 2" shorter. During the day when carrying I leave the light in the pack and use the 10 round mags carrying the 15 rounder as a spare.

If not in bear country a G19 in 9mm.

As an actual owner , how do you interpret this guns intended use? for example the use of the word "field", intended as an area you may see a deer VS an urban area. If you have no specific thought on the intended use thats fine too. Beaitiful gun, thanks for sharing.
For me, its use is punching holes in paper. :)

Realistically, its a kick ass round that would certainly be good for hunting where allowed. Whether or not someone wants to tote their $7000 pistol into the field is their choice, but the gun is extremely accurate and hits very hard.

Friend, ive seen some of your other guns. If you say its the bee's knees i believe you 100%.

Yeah it’s a very nice gun. I mean not that it shouldn’t be considering the price, but the fit and finish is flawless with outstanding attention to detail. It’s as accurate as any gun I own.

I would prefer a better trigger for target shooting, but it’s designed for use in the field I guess. The trigger is good, not great.

To me, "field pistol" means a rugged handgun, carried in lieu of a long gun, in sparsely populated areas. Not selected for concealment, but for utility, both in accuracy and terminal effectiveness with regards to defense from any living creature that may be encountered.

My field pistol is a 9mm 1911.
Because it's about the only gun I can hit anything with beyond 25 yards with and still carry on my hip (my field pistol definition).
My previous field pistol was a 357 revolver, but arthritis ended that.

Your "Field Pistol" is simply awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Yeah, but I like the idea of his P210-2 or that gas retarded, 9mm long barrel euro-beauty (that I can't remember the name of right now) as perhaps the ultimate field pistol.

Speaking of field pistols, anyone ever shoot IHMSA Field Pistol?
Half scale targets out to 100 yards, loads of fun, plus it shows you where your skills are really at.
My best scores came with a T/C Contender and a 10" 22 WMR barrel. My old single action 357 did well too.

Do you mean something like the Laugo Arms Alien 9mm. Combat/Tactical Delayed Blowback Pistol?

Hmm, been using that term for the better part of a 1/2 Century. Wonder if I should contemplate legal action? Obvious theft of intellectual property.

357 Sig and the Tok round are good for about half the energy of the 7.5 BRNO.

It’s an incredible pistol. I’m always amazed how many people judge it without ever even seeing one in person. :)

It’s all good though.
