The whining and hand wringing about the election needs to stop. The election happened. It's a done deal. No one is doing anyone else any good by wasting bandwidth here.

If you just want to whine and run around screaming "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" then take it somewhere else. We're not doing that here anymore. One week to whine is enough. It's time to get past the disbelief and refusal to accept stage of grief. By now you need to be past the anger stage, into the acceptance stage and start thinking positively about how we are going to hold on to our rights.

If you have some constructive ideas about how to fight any prospective antigun legislation then start a thread in Activism.

Threads are going to start vanishing. We have a no politics rule and the staff isn't going to spend the next 4 or 8 years policing threads that do nothing more then cry and moan about how we have an antigun president. You are preaching to the choir. If everyone who has started a thread or posted in a thread whining and moaning about what happened had devoted the same energy to getting out there and working to elect progun candidates, then we might not be where we are today. That is the challenge we face. We are better then what some of the threads and posts that are being made show us to be.

Now get out there and turn the anger, rage and fear into positive actions. Take someone shooting, write letters to the editor, get involved in local politics.....No more wasting energy and bandwidth here with complaining and whining.

+1 Play with the hand you were dealt

Improve the hand to the best of your ability, always playing by the rules. Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is but a dream, so we only have today. Use this day for something more constructive than griping.

Start by spending the "whine time" by joining or up-grading your NRA membership. Then, start writing your Senators and Congressmen.

Thank you kindly, Jeff.

Now, let's all get back to the fight. We have work to do.

Goodness gracious great balls of fire!

Jeff,
Are you nuts!
It is so much easier to build up one's self by tearing others down. All that energy that should be used to fight Tyranny and preserve Freedom is <gulb> work!

Woeing, Wringing and Whining, are the triad of Tyranny besting folks in order for Tyranny to survive and perpetuate.

WE gots teh Intraw3bz now, so we can communicate with more folks and faster all over the word these 3Ws, and really show the world how great the USA really is.

<kicks rocks> Some Moderators just don't get "it" is seems....

*snark*
*kidding mod*

I doubt that it'll stop, considering how 'wedgified' people are on here, but I'm glad to hopefully see that crap get taken off the board. thanks for giving us a board and doing a good job with it.

The Kübler-Ross Grief Model

According to Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, grief occurs in 5 stages over 2 years (approximately) The stages are
Denial
Anger
Bargining
Depression
Acceptance

They do not occur in a linear progression and you may feel several or all of them at once. There are people here that literally will grieve over this election (especially if Obama does make things difficult for gun owners ) for the full two years. If ,on the other hand, we are able to make progress the grieving process could be greatly shortened.

Either way while I undertand that political threads are contrary to the mission of THR saying "a week's Long enough get over it" is a little heartless.

Thank you Jeff. I am getting sick of the whining too. I am just going to fight for my rights when and if the time comes. I have gotten over it and I have every intention of following what goes on in the news.

Amen, the least of Barak Hussein Obama's worries is gun control!! We are in the biggest financial melt- down of our lives. If he can't fix that, nothing else matters much!

I have carried through 5 or 6 presdents, it really didn't affect me one way or the other. New boss same as the old boss. They only care about the perception of how they are viewed. They probablly all have a gun someware. They love the power of the office and guns are a symbol of power.

If you want to do something call your congressman and talk to him about it. I did today and thought it was worthwhile. Here is the phone number to the congressional operator 1-202-225-3121

It takes longer to post on this forum than it does to be active and make the call! And FWIW join the NRA or one of the other pro 2nd organizations.

Very good points up there.

And avoiding the panic-shopping will help reduce our exposure to scalping by our favorite (incl. one former) Internet ammo/gun {show} businesses.
I.e. '@^^ ^^0dude'.

People might make more rational decisions about what they might need, not just what they feel that they want right now. One might be traded for another later, unless impulses of impatience take over.
Military-style carbines forever, whether US or Russian-designed.

Denial
Anger
Bargining
Depression
Acceptance

and then you're a ZOMBIE!

Great post, some still don't get it.

You are preaching to the choir.

The choir ain't the only folks reading this stuff, looking for input, wondering what other people think, who's to blame and why, and what can be done about it. It can't be of any use if no one can put a finger on it.

Silence is one of the building blocks of ignorance. That's why the old Soviet Union controlled and censored the news.

Jeff's point is that in part - you just see hysterics that make gun owners look like nuts. Postulating the end of the United States and chest pounding that you are going to fight the UN and lead a rebellion is not going to convince one person who is undecided that the RKBA is a worthy cause.

The election was lost for gun owners because of an stupid and unsophisticated view of politics and the dynamics of the USA. Ranting about guns didn't mean jack squat in this election, except for some of the choir.

In addition to contacting my congress people, I even contacted a liberal writer for the "coalition to stop gun violence" and had some constructive email dialog with him about a piece he wrote some months back where he implied that people with mental illness are somehow more violent than the general public. I explained to him that the average reader could see right through the ink on the paper and read between the lines to see his underlying message. He had stated that mentally ill veterans posed a "special risk" in owning guns!

Invite some new non-shooters to the range, and introduce them to shooting using .22's (nothing more noisy or kicking!). Especially women...emphasize that shooting is primarily a skill sport, getting those holes in paper in tighter and tighter groups...de-emphasize the hunting/killing possibllities. We need more shooting converts!

Volunteer to give non-shooters safety courses, even with no shooting involved. Teach 'em how to pick up a gun with their finger along the action rather than on the trigger, and to always check any gun they pick up to make sure it's not loaded, even at the range. We need to minimize the possibility of home accidents.

Write and visit your legislaters, and very respectfully and politely explain your views...and why you have them.

Personally, I am still pissed, but I have not been whining about it at least. Just thinking of what we need to do now.

Discussion of politics is banned. Actually participating in the problem is encouraged. We even have a subforum dedicated to getting involved. It's called Activism.
