NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 13, No. 23 06/09/06

U.N. ONCE AGAIN TRYING TO USURP
OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS--
WILL CONVENE CONFERENCE ON "SMALL ARMS" THIS MONTH

With an absurdly lengthy title that tells you all you need to know, the "U.N. Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects," will begin Monday, June 26. This meeting is a follow up to the "U.N. Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons" meeting that we reported on in the summer of 2001. At that time, we told you that the Bush Administration made it perfectly clear that the United States would not support any proposal that threatened our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

But the U.N., fueled and financed by the likes of Rebecca Peters and George Soros, is at it again--and with a vengeance.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre has aptly noted that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in defense of self, family, and country is self-evident. In essence, our Second Amendment shows profound respect for human freedom, worth, and self-destiny.

But two centuries after it was codified into our Bill of Rights, the U.N. is trying to declare that this civil liberty is a cause of the world's violence. It is trying to claim jurisdiction over sovereign American citizens by crafting a global treaty that calls on us to surrender our firearm freedom and accept whatever lesser standard of freedom--if any--the U.N. deems appropriate.

The United States is the last truly free nation standing, offering every law-abiding human the greatest measure of freedom mankind has ever experienced, and neither the United Nations nor any other foreign influence may claim jurisdiction to meddle with the freedoms guaranteed by our Bill of Rights.

To learn how you can fight the U.N.'s Global Gun Ban and save your Right to Keep and Bear Arms, please visit www.stopungunban.org, or call (800) 672-0636. This site provides valuable information and an opportunity to order Wayne LaPierre's new book The Global War On Your Guns. The book spells out a chilling warning that gun owners in the United States and abroad must heed, and exposes a far-reaching scheme to pass a global ban on civilian ownership of arms--including YOURS!

Help stop the U.N.'s attempt to thwart our Freedom. Please visit the site or call the toll-free number today!

There are a number of pro-gun bills pending in Congress that require your action. Please review these legislative initiatives and be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support these measures. Additional contact information can be found using the "Write Your Representatives" feature at www.NRAILA.org.

. H.R. 5092-This bill would improve BATFE's process for punishing the few FFLs who violate the law and it would establish guidelines for BATFE investigations. This bill was drafted in large part to address recent BATFE abuses at Richmond, Va.-area gun shows highlighted in hearings before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommitee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.

. H.R. 5005-This measure will codify congressional policies, roll back restrictions, and correct errors in federal firearm laws.

. H.R. 5013/S. 2599-Legislation to prohibit the confiscation of lawfully owned firearms during states of emergency. Would guarantee legal recourse for victims of illegal gun seizures

. H.R. 1384-This bill would remove several antiquated and unnecessary restrictions imposed on interstate firearms business since 1968.

. H.R. 1288/S. 1082-Legislation to repeal the draconian D.C. gun ban and restore the right of lawful District residents to own firearms to defend themselves and their families.

. H.R. 4547/S. 3275-Legislation that would allow any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed firearm in any other state if he or she meets certain criteria. Importantly, the laws of each state governing where concealed firearms may be carried would still apply within its borders.

Again, please contact your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators and urge them to cosponsor and support these measures. For additional information on these bills, please visit www.NRAILA.org.

What is a lawfully owned firearm? When did this requirement come into law?
Where was the NRA when this "lawfully owned" term became law?

How long has the NRA been in existance? Before all these anti- 2d Amendment laws were passed?

What the hell have they been doing with all the money collected to protect our rights?

Send your money to GOA and JPFO. If every member of the NRA would cancel their membership and join these two organizations I think that we would get strong representation of our rights.

Hell, a while back the NRA changed its wording of the word "weapon" and "gun". Now when we conduct matches we must call "it" a "firearm". What kind of PC crap is this?

I still use the forbidden word "weapon" when I conduct NRA matches.

yeah as a Benefactor member of the NRA. I'm not happy with them not touching the 34' or 68' unconstitutional laws. Yes we need to fight against the U. N. buit like you say, I'm not happy with some of their "wording" on laws.
(I'm a lifer at GOA) and ever since reading John Ross's book have been looking to join the JPFO as well.

Standard leftist hypocrisy, Kofi Annan's security detail is *illegally* armed with H&K MP5's....

The U.N. was not founded to be a governing body, though it most certainly is aspiring to that role, which to my mind is a big red flag given their track record.

Some years back the West African country of Sierra Leone was being torn apart by an exceptionally brutal insurgency perpetrated by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), the leader of which was a psychopath engaged in ritual cannibalism, and saw the the butchering of the civilian population as merely an incentive for them to support him and his forces.

The RUF would go into villages, kill all the men they had no use for, kidnap all the boys and men of fighting age (anywhere from 8 to 40 or so) then rape the women, cut off their hands/arms/legs/breasts, and kill them also, warning those left alive that if they didn’t continue to support them they would come back and finish the job.

The boys and men they took with them would be started on a drug regimen, khat or whatever was available, and given weapons. This was how the bidding of the RUF was done.

Unable to stem the insurgency the government of Sierra Leone, who’s army was totally corrupt and ineffective, turned to outside help, in this case, commercial outside help, in the form of a private military company, Executive Outcomes.

EO came in with 300 operatives, all of whom had between 10 and 20 years of unconventional jungle warfare experience, and were astonishingly effective agaisnt a force numbered in the tens of thousands. They routed the RUF, plain and simple.

At this point the U.N. got involved, and not in a good way. The U.N. and the Clinton administration pressured the government of Sierra Leone to cancel EO’s contract, which they did.

If there’s anything the U.N. and it’s leftist buddies hate it’s a private actor that is more powerful than a state, and EO had clearly demonstrated that it was far more effective than all the national armies out there.

No way was the U.N. or Clinton going to put up with that, after all these guys were <gasp!> *mercenaries*!!!

Nevermind that they put a stop to a brutal insugency and saved countless thousands of lives, while gaining the gratitude and enthusiastic support of the entire civilian population. They were *mercenaries*!!!

EO pulled out, warning the government that with their departure the insurgency would reignite, which in fact did happen. The U.N. came in with 15,000 “peacekeepers” at a cost far far higher than what EO charged to do the same thing, and within three months 500 of them were kidnapped and held for ransom as the RUF butchered thousands more civilians.

Please do appreciate that 15,000 U.N. “peacekeepers” were unable to do what barely 300 Executive Outcomes operatives had done.

Then, sometime later Rwanda spun up, and generated a most shameful episode at the U.N. where intense and concerted efforts were made to make sure that the word “genocide” was never used in any meetings on the matter, because had that word been used the U.N. would have been obligated to act, after having already cut and run from the situation.

They sought consultants to advise them, and ended up consulting with (guess who) Executive Outcomes.

EO told them they could have put 600 operatives on the ground in Rwanda and put a stop to it, and their track record in Angola and Sierra Leone left no doubt they could indeed do so, but there was no way the U.N. was going to allow that. Better that hundreds of thousands should die than *mercenaries* save them.

So the U.N. and the rest of the leftist world stood by and watched while 800,000 innnocent people were butchered when the means to save them was readily available. Those people didn’t have to die like that.

All that said, I find it most difficult to see any justification for the continued existence of the U.N., a body which has shown itself to be corrupt, (Oil for Food), ineffective, and governed by leftist ideology that cares more for it’s leftist politics than it does for innocent lives.
That the U.N. now aspires to the role of a world governing body is a frightening thing. The are seeking to control the internet and to abrogate our liberties and rights persuant to their leftist agenda by imposing upon us what they regard as “international law” but is really just their own leftist scheme to turn the planet into yet another socialist tragedy.

The U.N. - a pox on 'em.

"How long has the NRA been in existance?"

www.google.com

It'll probably answer some of your other questions, too.

"If every member of the NRA would cancel their membership and join these two organizations I think that we would get strong representation of our rights."

I don't. Why not join all three and a couple of state organizations? And remember, NRA dues cannot, by federal law, be used for lobbying. That's why there's the NRA-ILA and the NRA-PVF and they keep sending requests for cash.

Amy:

Re your comments on the history of UN operations in Africa, WELL SAID.

You and others might find the following of interest. A brief excerpt from Gun Week Rreports, page 1, the 20 June issue (latest issue).

Headline reads as follows. UN, Swiss Host Gun Meeting, US Not Invited. I suspect this might arise out of the US not bowing down to the godess of international anti gun activity, one Rebecca Peters, Director of IANSA.

The US wasn't invited to the festivities, but would anyone care to guess who will be billed for the breakfasts, lunches and dinners of the attendees?

I've raised the issue with my Senator, and I'm informed the UN has no and will have no authority to ban firearms in the US, regardless of whether they pass their international ban. I'm also told by my Senator that Congress will never allow a UN initiated bill banning Americans from having arms. He said they'll never pass or allow legislation that opposes our Constitution.
