The girlfriend is hooked!

You need to marry that girl before she gets away!!!

+1 on that thought. You get along, spent several days camping, she wants to get firearms and shoot with you. You share interests. It may be a bit early in your relationship to get married give it time your fear will subside.

Heading on an out of state trip Friday. When it cools down we will do more camping and fishing.

My girlfriend likes to shoot, but doesn't like to go to an indoor range. She is too nervous because she has seen some of the stupid things people do. We usually go out to my range I have built behind my house. Used to be able to shoot 75 yards using a neighbors field, but for some reason he all of a sudden said no more, so we are restricted to about 25 yards. Started her off with a little .380. She looked at me like ***? I want a real gun. Gave her a Chiefs special. That was fine until one day she tried a 3" Model 65 and immediately it became "her gun". Been too hot lately but when fall rolls around she will go back with me. The girl can shoot too! Doesn't care for targets, just silhouettes.

ohihunter2014, if she also plays golf put a ring on her finger right now!

I’m kind of scared to be honest! Hitting wooden blocks at 100 yards the first time she shot a rifle I would love to see how she does when she gets more time behind one.

Don't worry about it. Women frequently have better "eye-hand co-ordination" than men. You did a good thing here though. Any time you can create a new shooter, esp. one that doesn't fit the libs mold, it is a very good result.
You may not be considering anything more than a "LTR" for now, but keep it as an option. This lady sounds as if she has some very good qualities.
AND, as Dunross said, if it goes that far, get a pre-nup !!

She does have a lot of good qualities. She's pretty, funny, amazing cook, now likes to shoot, likes to fish, likes to camp now. She was in the pouring rain during our camping trip helping me put the tarps over the tents and helped cook on the fire. I have a hernia that I am hoping will go away and she wont let me lift anything. She always tries to argue about me paying for dinner, etc. She always wants to drive places to save my gas. I was trying to find new underwear at Walmart and they didn't have my size. She went to another Walmart without me knowing and got me 3 packs and wouldn't take any money. She cooks me hot lunches and brings them to me in a little carrier when I am working a holiday or weekend and she is off. Sunday it was 3 eggs, sausage, bacon and fresh toast. She even made me beef wellington and chicken alfredo from scratch!!!:D

She sounds a right charmer but that first post was scary. She was overenthused and the range slob was a hazard.
I hope she continues to have fun but calms down a bit. And you can avoid range slobs.

My latest new shooter experience went the other way. The new shooter paid attention and was cautious. Her new hubby "been huntin an shootin for just years and years" was an unnervingly casual gunhandler; "Oh it's not loaded." type. I doubt I will get out with them again.

I recommend some mild form of competition. It can hold her attention long term after the new wears off and safety is strictly enforced. Stuff you described would not be permitted. GSSF and Steel Challenge are good ways to start out. You don't have to have the laser focus of bullseye (you can if you get serious, though) and you are not moving with a gun in hand like USPSA or IDPA.

Oh, yes, shoes. Closed shoes are safer than sandals, you don't want a hot case between your toes.
She now knows to wear a high neckline and should wear a cap or hat. A lady here got her second hot case down a crew neck shirt after she had learned the hard way to not wear a V neck. A hat brim might well have deflected it.

I agree. Triple redundant safety while having fun, is hard to beat. Also ensures you won’t have any “it’s not loaded” kind of folks around you.

I did tell her she needs to slow down and listen to what I tell her. She is so used to doing everything her self and never really had a man who was worth a nickel help her with anything. She hates when she cannot do something on her own and goes at it 100mph. I keep trying to explain to her that we cannot do that when handling firearms. I think another range trip or two alone will tone things down a bit. She said she was rushing because the other guys wanted to shoot. I told her that we were there first, take your time and shoot. Don't ever be in a hurry when messing with firearms. Now I have to break her from wanting to open the slide and lock it using the front of the slide. She has bad hands and sometimes cannot hold it back and lock it. I pulled my M&P out last night and cleared it in the other room and said make it safe. She keeps wanting to kind of point the muzzle at her and lock the slide open. We spent probably 10min playing with it until she figured it out without pointing it at herself. I think we will be hopping on Grabagun.com and buying her something soon. I understand where she was coming from with the hot brass and wanting to shake it out. She has a nice blister on her chest now, but I explained to her that she cannot do that because she could have pulled the trigger and shot herself or me. She wore a hat that night, just the shirt was very low cut.

Oh, my clubs pistol shoots have all the slobs. I quit going because its just an unorganized mess. Next time we wont be shooting with others around.

Third party instruction would be a big help. People tend to pay more attention to an outside expert, especially a paid outside expert. I have helped several folks who could not absorb the same information from Dad, Spouse, or Sweetie.

Lots of that going 'round. There is a site directed at Lady Shooters that includes specific techniques for operating guns with limited hand strength.

I am going to see if a Sheriff/Swat/Firearms instructor friend will do her CCW class for her. I also have a guy who is the USCG and PD firearms instructor who does classes.

I have converted or rather convinced another to buy a S&W M&P. The girlfriend will now have her own firearm and we will shoot together. A trip to the gun store turned up the M&P9. She almost walked away with an XD but chose the MP for changing the grips.

My wife goes with me on occasion, but will only shoot my glenfield m60. Maybe she only likes wood and blue steel. I did get her to shoot my heritage revolver but that was before we were married. That was a win for me. She was so scared of firearms then due to her ex-husband threatening her with a loaded 12 ga pump several years earlier.

At the first paragraph my brain was going "red light, red light, not a good outfit for shooting!"

Yep, it was easy to see what was coming a mile away. Like telling young kids to put a hat on or wear gloves when it's cold outside, they generally have to suffer once or twice to wise up. Still, as long as she keep the muzzle in control while her flesh sizzled, it ain't all bad....except burns that turn to blisters generally scar.

It's always good to see new folks get into the shooting sports. Some of the most enthusiastic new shooters that I see are females with little or no previous experience with firearms. You did good Ohihunter2014

I'm surprised someone has not ask if she has a sister! ;) She sounds like a great gal. I hope your shooting hobby together continues to grow.

I am pretty sure this is a fake woman.....these females just do not exist in the wild......we need photo evidence.

But to be true.....Get to a doc and get looked at....your medical issue is not something you want to delay....it will not get better only worse.....trust me I been down that road.

And to your girl.....I married (over 30 years ago) my best friend.....still the best thing I have ever done....not telling you what to do, but sounds from your posts that you guys have a lot more going for you then most folks.
