Bought my wife a Kel Tec P32 for her birthday,:D which is huge as she always said she had 0 interest in firearms. So we went out to shoot after some explanation of function, and some safety. I set a 2' diameter steel target at 10yds. Loaded with hollow pts. She aims, fires, and hits the target. Great, she is having fun. Next shot, hit, and then screaming," it's hot, it's hot!" :cuss: I take the 32 to secure it, as she is pulling clothes off. What the heck, I think a fragment hit her! She had bibs on and a shirt with a collar. After some dancing, less screaming, she gets down to her undies,:what: and pulls out the spent brass casing. It somehow went down the inside of her shirt, down the small of her back, and in the undies. After realizing she was OK, and see what had happen, we had tears in our eyes. Mine were from laughing, not sure about hers!

Common issue for women who handle firearms. Cleavage it seems attracts brass better than a brass catcher.

On another note, I do wonder about the selection of firearms. Did you let your wife try out different handguns and find one that SHE liked the fit and feel of? Or did you and/or your gun dealer just pick the little KelTec because a nice small pistol seemed right for a lady? Any person, ESPECIALLY women or non shooters will enjoy shooting more with a handgun that fits them. I have yet to meet the adult human who found a pocket pistol to be their most comfortable fit. Not really harping just curious. For all I know you may have selected the little mousegun because it was cheap, and worse case scenario if she hated shooting you had yourself a little pistol that was easy to conceal. If she liked shooting you may very well have already been planning on shopping for one more fitted to her. It is unfortunate how many women have been lost to the sport of shooting just because men selected a gun that was just flat uncomfortable to them.

There is a downside to letting the little lady pick her own. My current lady felt around and decided if she was going to own and shoot a pistol then she wanted a SIG. As if she wasn't expensive enough in the first place..lol

Ah...the brass dance.

Hearken ye, unto these thine laws:

* Wear always thine eye protectors
* It is better for thine hat's brim to catch brass than thine bum.
* Always wear a relatively tight collar.
* Never tuck your shirt in, let the brass drain.
* Always cinch your belt up tight.
* If the brass still catches in your clothes, grasp it through your clothing with your off hand, holding it away from your body while you carefully finish your string of fire. (Finishing your string of fire is better than wildly waving a gun around, and it makes you look stone cool.)

Very funny, but I don't recommend shooting at steel closer than 15 yards. Even so, my gong targets are no closer than 25 yards. I have been cut by lead splatter at an IPSC match, and I think that target was close to 10- 15 yards away from me.

I have a scar from a 223 doing an awesome ricochet to the side, up, and down my tucked in shirt. Yeah, you know where it is and I feel for the wife. Glad she had fun beforehand though so it wasn't her FIRST shot.

No pics. This will have to be a time when your imagination will have to suffice, and it is a good thing she doesn't read THR. We did have saftey glasses, I picked the KelTec on its reputation and a good deal. Best thing, we are going to shoot tommorrow. I will wait to see what she wears.

Deja vu. Last year I gave my wife a Kahr PM9 for her birthday. First trip to the range with it, a piece of hot brass went down the front of her shirt. She didn't strip until we got home though. ;)

SlamFire1 gives good advice on shooting steel. 10 yards is a far too close for that. Sooner or later she won't be complaining about the hot brass, it'll be about hot copper in the face. Trust me - been there done that.

To clarify, we were on our own private, property, and she didn't have to strip, as she could reach in the baggy bibs, and so on, to get the brass. I will use another target next time.

Luck Lady.

I was on site when a novice shooter dropped a 22lr casing down her bra.

Startled her so bad, she shot herself in the leg.

That was not a good day for any of us.

Best to keep the girls covered up when on the range.

I remember when I was with my friend at the range for (my) first time. He was shooting is WASR when I had the great idea to catch the brass out of the air.

Yeah. Those things get hot. I still have a hint of the x39 casing burned into the palm.

The key to steel is having it angled correctly (slightly up or down) and not badly pitted/worn out; it is definitely shot at 10 yards and sometimes closer in competition all the time.

I always have doubts about the pictures of semi-nude women with semi-autos. I can't imaging anyone shooting a semi-auto dressed like that. Too easy to get hot brass on the soft parts. That's a real negative for most folks, especially women.
