Hey, I just had to do this... ;)

Anyway, just to gather one and all .300 H&H Magnum owners together; regardless the make of your rifle.

Actually, any H&H chambering and your are in! :D

Please post pics, and any other info. you care to share with the rest of us.

We love a good gun (esp. rifle ;) )story :).

I know,I know; pics!! Mine are in another thread here. I'll try to get some fresh one up later this week.
 
About 35 years ago I was in a gun shop with a friend. There was a discount table where I found about 10 boxes of 300 H&H ammo they couldn't sell and had marked down for clearance.

"You should buy it," my friend told me.

"I don't have a rifle in that caliber."

"It's only a matter of time."

Proved prophetic as I bought this Ruger last year. It's cool just saying "300 H&H."

When I saw the Ruger #1 in .300 H&H last year I thought about buying one but passed only because I already had the Remington Classic chambered in the same. That is a nice rifle and I do regret not buying one.
 
I'll have to get a picture of my Classic, odd that I don't have one other then the day I brought it home.
 
I'm joining as a wanna be. I have a 1917 that's been whacked that is destined for an H&H build. It'll be a while, but I'll get there :)
 
To be fair, I'll throw in some story on my Savage :scrutiny:.

The previous owner had the rifle custom built at a hole-in-the-wall LGS by an "old school" 'smith.
It was intended for hunting, but never saw that duty; as the owner met an untimely end.

There was a complete RCBS reloading set with dies, primers, powder, everything! It was going to be tossed or just given away, as the inheriting family members have absolutely NO interest in guns.

I received the rifle (the reloading stuff went elsewhere, but I can get it back with a phone call ;)) about 3 months after and it has been in my RSC since 2009.

I will still get better pics, but for now, full size ones from my outing to Oroville 01/02/12

Beautiful rifle...But its a dead man's rifle....But I guess, since he didn't die with it or because of it, its fine to own. She's a beaut!
 
Awesome thread! Great looking No. 1 Saxon. talldragon, I like that 26" tube. I have always preferred long, heavy barrels. Now, we need someone to wander through here and post a picture of three of a pre-64, model 70 in .300 H&H Mag!! :cool:

The H&H Magnums take me back to the early 1960s, when my mother used to sit me in front of the TV for entertainment. Of course, the TV always ended up on various safari channels. As I have said before, the H&Hs carry a certain romance about them.

thats what id really like to find but there rare on the gun market and when there there the owners are pretty proud of them.
I'll have to get a picture of my Classic, odd that I don't have one other then the day I brought it home.

About 5 years ago I came close to selling my Classic in .300 H&H at the LGS on consignment. I had one offer of $300. Took it back home and decided to keep it for that price. Hope I never get that hard up for cash.
 
I have a Ruger No. 1 that has now had 2 chamberings. 20 years ago I hade the original 24" barrel rechambered from .30-06 to .30-338 for a moose hunt in Alaska. Took my moose with the backup .375 H&H so the .30-338 really didn't get shot in the interim. Found a 26" .30-06 takeoff barrel a few months ago, bought it and had it rechambered to .300 H&H and swapped for the .30-338.

The .300 H&H is such a classic round, it's right there with the
.416 Rigby, the 7x57, and the .375 H&H. :D

Ruger No.1 looks like a very robust design. Either one of you using optics on yours ? Still wondering if my 5-20X50 Tasco is overkill for my Savage 110.

Yes on the Ruger No. 1 optics: SII Sightron Bigsky 4-16x42mm Dot Reticle.

I have not started using reloads on it yet. Cheap Bitterroot hunting ammo so far. I need better ammo before I say it is accurate or not. But it is a hoot to shoot.
 
My late uncle had a Remington mod. 721 26"
' in the 300 H&H Magnum he owned it for 47 years & they sold it right after he passed away he had Remington t ofit it with a new stock & she was a beauty wished i atleast had some oics of it for ya guys t osee it he is the one who got me into th e "MAGNUMS" & i havent lookedback since i have me a new Weatherby Vanguard sires 2 on layaway at my local gunshop & will have it paid off by October of this year i have already ordered me a new set of LEE dies for it & i have some brass forit & i have to buy me a pound of Ramshot Magnum powder & ill be set

I just started on a venture to do about the same. Have a Stevens 200 coming and in the process of ordering a 26" McGowen Pre-fit varmint contour barrel and a Boyd stock.
