I keep hearing about the "pro-gun liberals", and then I keep hearing from them.

So, tell me which gun control measures you support. (Liberals only, please)

P.S.: I don't want to debate whether they are good or not, and I don't want this to turn in to partisan bickering like the last thread. Once it starts to go down hill, I will ask for this thread to be locked.

Jimbo.

Hey, I'm liberal. I believe all people have a right to freedom. I'm frankly tired of the name liberal being used as a synonym for communists, socialists, slavers and looters.

Let's see . . . you post a poll, vote yourself for the "Darn Liberals!" option, and then say you don't want this to be political? :scrutiny:

Sure, whatever.

Liberal from New York Gasp!!!

I voted none of the above but I was curious about the backround gunshow checks option.

I support the NCIC backround check by dealers at gunshows but IIRC selling a gun by a private party like a FTF transfer is Illegal AT a gunshow.

So just to clarify. You can sell a gun at the range, parking lot, front yard to another party with only proving their state residency status (Check for NYS Driver Licence, has to be NYS no out of staters) BUT if you sell a gun at a gunshow from a private party to private party without a backround check you just commited a crime.

I think that is an arbitrary law, but it probably helps out image, at least in NYS we can say theirs No gunshow loophole, even though we already know that anti buzzword bs.

NYS needs to be shall issue, only the rich are important enough for CCW in NYC.

Shadan... I think the "darn liberals" option was for the non-liberals to pick, so that their opinions don't color the results of Jimbo's "liberals only" poll.

As a flaming liberal I voted none of the above.

Jimbo, would you consider a "conservatives only" poll? My guess is you might find some folks in that bucket who would support a .50BMG ban or hi-cap mag ban or something. I really don't think this breaks down just by political leanings - more by indoctrination and education (which overlaps with politics, but isn't the same).

I suppose I'm a social liberal, but a fiscal conservative. I support none of those things. I do support the current NICS background check, except to the extent that it incorporates (as it does) enforcement of the Lautenberg law that disarms misdemeanants.

+1

Social liberal, fiscal conservative here.

I voted none, I find it amazing that a political mindset MUST be tied into RKBA, like somehow the issues cannot be separated.

This is despite the fact the firearms ownership is seeing a bi-partisan type trend. IMHO

It's even more bizarre that you would expect to find a die-hard gunny, such as a member of this site, of ANY political faction that would support any of the listed proposals.

It seems to me the one thing THR's can agree on is regulation/restriction =/= happy people.

JImbothefiveth, I see where you're coming from, but as I have expressed previously I find the implicit desire to link gun ownership and the RKBA with only a conservative political belief (specifically, the GOP) to be counter-productive and deeply offensive. It just alienates people who would be our natural allies. And because I have seen so much of that on a number of gun boards (including, sad to say, this one), I am very skeptical of anyone who is "just kidding" about such.

SsevenN - you got it, brother. Well said. Why would any of us be behind more pointless infringement of our constitutional rights?

Oops I didn't realize this was for liberals. I don't normally think of myself as one but at least one of my friends think so. Probably because of my pro-peace, populist, and libertarian views.

nutter...

I'd welcome such a poll because I disagree with your assessment. I encourage you to create one according to your premise.

FYI: I voted "Darn Liberals" in order to not color the poll with my not being one that this poll is directed towards.

It remains a valid-- if non-scientific-- poll by just ignoring the "Darned Liberals" option. Those are not the targeted group.

EDIT: And I don't mind a poll directed at Conservatives, either-- especially since none of us likely fit perfectly into the ideological stereotypes. Think about it, Liberals-- you wouldn't be on a "gun forum" if you fit the stereotype. I am a conservative, but you'd find that I don't fit perfectly into that stereotype, either.

Reality is often very much different than the extremes by which an issue is defined.

Bottom line, we should be able to own any non crew served weapon issued to our armed forces except grenades and RPGs as well as any civilian firearm that generates enough sales to be viable to manufacture. I can buy gasoline, glass containers, cotton rags, why not a true select fire weapon or silencer without all the BS of federal intervention, tax stamps, etc.

What do you have against "crew served" weapons?

It gives the wife and kids something to do while you are at the range.

Why not grenades and RPGs?

woops... I'm another one who voted "none of the above" before I realized I was only supposed to vote if I'm liberal. I haven't been liberal for more than 30 years...
