Giordin, she's gorgeous

The pictured dog is not mine but I have similar dog. I love many of the guardian type dogs and can testify to the how effective of visual deterrents they can be and a well trained dog is useful far beyond that. That is the key though, a dog especially ones big enough to be effective deterents need to be well trained and cared for.

I do not have children and my house layout would make it difficult for a burglar to gain access to my house and make it to my bedroom without notice. I keep a loaded Sig in my nightstand with an extra 15 rd. mag, along with a Sig flashlight.

Between my nightstand and bed is a 12ga. loaded with 00 buck leaning up against the wall.

I move around too much for a pillow gun, as well as regularly tipping over my water glass, so inside a drawer is my only option for a handgun. One of my AR's is between the mattresses, so a roll-off grab would probably involve that if the perp is super close.

Firearm within arms reach, or closer, and a dog to sound the necessary alarm.
The firearm is properly stowed and secured when I leave.
