I submit that the longest unit of time known to man is that between the point when you buy the gun...and get to pick up the gun.

I don't know about that.
There are 60 units of "time between the point when you buy the gun and when you pick it up" that make up "time of submitting a form 1 or 4 and then receiving stamp".

It weird but I always have wait weeks for my background checks to be approved but when my wife buys a gun they approve it while were still in store. Not sure why but it does sure seem like a very long period of time.

Guessing you life in a restricted state... as it takes me about 4m to fill out the 4473 and walk out the door with my new firearm.

Not restricted...just bought them and won't be able to pick them up for a week or two...just real busy.

I travel a lot for business, when bored in a foreign country I almost always end up on gunbroker. That usually results in a purchase or two. I sometimes wont get home for up to 5wks, so I know the feeling.. Its even worse when you dont have access to your current firearms.

You know exactly the spot I'm in...but at least I have access to my current stuff. I guess I ought to go make room in the safe during the wait.

I can agree with this. I have my permit, and have never been delayed.

HOWEVER, I did special order a gun. It seemed like forever for it to get from the manufacturer to the LGS.

Longest I've waited was the day I bought 5 S&W revolvers. I had to go back to the house for some gun cases. That was a great day for me. I picked up a 27-3 (FBI), a model 58, a model 25-2, a pre model 15 and a model 25-5. It's sad though. The only time I see firearms like that is after the owner dies and the family doesn't want them.

Takes about 2 minutes to fill out paperwork and sign the check. No background checks in Georgia with a carry permit.

If a single immortal ant were to work tirelessly carrying grains of sand from the tops of the Himalayas down to the sea, Mount Everest would be a valley before New Jersey starts to issue concealed carry permits.

I bought a new pistol yesterday. Walked into the gun store, filled out the form, showed them my CHL, paid, walked back to the truck with the new Ruger, all within 15 minutes. Also picked up a box of commercial .380 and a pocket holster.

My wife and I now have matching carry pistols...

Haven't submitted NFA paperwork yet, but the time between buying a gun and picking up the gun is a matter of a few minutes. Fill out 4473, extract cash, ID and CPL from wallet, receive change, replace ID, CPL and wallet into pocket, pick up gun, say thanks and walk out the door. This does not take long at all.

I see people talking about the wait on NFA forms. I purchased a SWR Octane 45 HD and the company called Silencer Shop in Texas e-mailed me the trust form. I filled it out and faxed it back. They say they do the paperwork and check to BATF. They say its about 7 month wait. Has anyone bought from them and does this sound about right on wait time?

The longest unit of time I have encountered is skydiving. General rule of thumb taught to me by my instructor - once you exit the aircraft, you have the rest of your life for your parachute to open.

I'm new to this forum. It looks like there are a lot of people on it when I scroll down but under this box it says there are 3 people viewing this thread. can anyone help a new guy here. do I need to go to another forum?

I've done two 15,000 foot freefall jumps...loved it. I love the old skydiving saying that "the sky's not the limit...the ground is."

I'd much rather be jumping than waiting on guns.

Keeping this gun related, the longest time for me is taking delivery of a new gun, particularly a .22 (delivery occurs at time of sale with me), and getting to shoot it.
