The rifle on top looks to be entirely based on a mix of the Springfield and/or the Mauser? (Gimme a break, it's 5AM here). I could just be ignorant, but it looks like one of those semi-auto .30 Springfields with a Garand-style stock. Did it have the same operating principle? I don't see how that would work with the gas system we've all come to know and love.
